    One of the most beautiful and historic areas in all of America. Great job!

    I grew up in this area and went to (at the time) Unionville Middle School when Charles F. Patton was the principle. I used to drive on all of these roads you walked. I give you big credit for not only walking that distance but avoiding getting hit by the knuckleheads who fly down those roads especially when you crossed Rt. 52 near West Chester.

    Thank you for this, Ken. My 5th Great Grandfather Marquis Calmes fought with the 2nd Virginia Regimen and took place in this battle and likely also strolled this foot path. Thank you for taking me to see what he potentially would have seen back then!

    Imagine the enormity of that red coat column of 8,000 infantry and their supporting hanger-ons.

    Appreciate you taking the walk. I’ve always wondered about the route the Brits took. I love getting lost exploring the area of the battle.

    I guess fording the Brandywine with musket, ammo and gunpowder, the powder would be wet?

    From looking at 18th century maps, Marlborough road did not exist at the time of the battle.

      Some of the roads have changed as has the understanding of the route taken. I’m on about 90% of the agreed upon roads. Others are part of an ongoing debate. Some roads don’t exist but most do. Wawaset Road did not exist. The old Red Lion Road continued past the Brandywine Valley Association, the remains of that road are still there and they stayed on Red Lion to intersect with Bragg Hill just shy of the 2 Ford’s at Trimbles, essentially where I crossed. Maybe 100 feet away. After Trimbles Ford all the roads are correct. But we continue to learn more about this battle everyday! Thanks for watching and the feedback.

      Larry, thanks. I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow about a swollen foot. I plan to start the walk but might need you to take the flag! Stay tuned... This year I plan to start at the Unionville Middle school, the actual location of the British encampment on the night of Sept 10. Muster will be at 6:30! Lol!

      I am out of town now. When do you think you will go? I probably am not in good shape enough to walk what you walked. Is there any chance you will dive it?

      +Larry G Sunday. That's the anniversary, the only day of the year the sun is in the same place in the sky.

      Sunday the 11th at 6;30 PM?

    • @kenlawson1147
      @kenlawson1147  8 років тому

      6:30 am. But check back between tomorrow and Saturday to confirm. My status will depend on what the foot doctor tells me, and the time is tentative. Might start later, sometime between 6:30 and 8:30. I'm starting from a different place this year, the actual British camp location which is a couple miles shorter then what I did last year starting in Kennett Square. I plan more stops along the way, too. Want to time it to hit the fording locations at the right time. It's OK if you don't make the entire walk, some British didn't walk all the way either. It's a beautiful trip, that much I can promise you.
