Thank you for that , we have just got are first VW campervan. We are going to the NEC next week for the show . One of the things we are looking for is the top cover, so this was very useful. Thanks again.
I went really cheapo and made one for just over £30 for my Bongo. Got two rolls of Thermafoil, two large rolls of duct tape, some dowel and some bungees. The front panel is reinforced with the dowel at the top and bottom to give rigidity and the sides are tucked behind the struts and bungeed around the back. Works a treat and rolls up to the same size as a large duvet.
Rainbow screens every time, I have the thermal front windscreen wrap in blk with darth Vader’s head in white, looks awesome as well as great performance!
If it’s very bit would the silver side be best on the outside to reflect heat away from the van or not bothered putting it in on and have lots of ventilation instead.
Although we have no need for one, I think the Rainbow thermal one would get my vote. No noise, complete blackout & a smarter better fit. It was great to meet you at the site in Cirencester just by chance & appreciated that you took the time to chat to us. Sorry we didn't get to meet Bentley. Happy travels 👋🏻
It was lovely to meet you both too! We’re always happy to have a chat so I’m really glad you stopped by 😊 Hopefully next time we will have Bentley with us! Take care
Hi, Thanks for the great review. Do the Rainbow covers stop the pop top covers dry. I am asking as the the O3S covers seem to leak and it seems likely that the 04S may well do the same and in order to keep the top dry when setup l was the about getting Rainbow top covers. Thanks
i have an SCA roof on my camper and we have the rainbow cover. one of the best things we have purchased, we had some very high winds and icy cold weather in south wales at easter and with the rainbow cover and the diesel heater we were really really warm and have to agree with you no flapping in the wind .
Really useful as I didn't know the difference. Already spoken with Rainbow regarding the Marco Polo we have ordered so we'll be customizing their Topper when the camper arrives. Thank you and give Bentley a belly tickle from us.
Hi guys I’ve recently purchased a Rainbow thermal roof wrap and it’s made a massive difference to outside noise and the warmth of the interior has greatly improved.
Hi Lizzy and Sean, I would chose the 2nd one, the rainbow one. No noise and a dark bedroom seem perfect to me. We will order one for ours in autumn. Brilliant review.
Without a doubt the rainbow comfort pop top is the one that really works and sound proof is brilliant And it’s a UK company which is great when you ask them questions and have extra parts fitted twin colours and a screen cover to match Great video as usual Cheers
I’ve ordered a Rainbow Screens pop top cover on the strength of this, so thanks for an excellent review. I’m also a fan of ABAB vids. There’s just one small tweak I’d make and that is to do fewer pieces to camera. Great to see you both, of course, but sometimes more shots of what you are talking about rather than a head shot would be good. I thought this one in particular could have had a walk-around of the screen rather than Lizzie talking about it. Keep up the good work and thanks again for all your efforts, much appreciated.
Hello we are very new to this and got our Cali Ocean a week ago and have been watching loads of you videos. I need to buy the thermal one . We’re do I get it please thank you
Hi there guys! Excellent video. What should I try. The second pop cover seems to be easy to install. But, is it totally waterprooff? Thanks in advance.
Hi guys and thanks for the review. We are looking to buy a cover for our T5 so found this particularly useful. We want one that can also be fitted when we have our roof-box attached to the pop top; hence the Rainbow cover will work in this case. Another reason we would like the insulated version is the reduction in ambient noise. Do you think there is a case for still using your original one and hence transporting them both around? Atb, Cali Camper Family.
Hi guys, loved the vid - very informative 😄 I think the Rainbow 🌈 thermal wrap is what we would like 👍 One of the reasons we are looking at this is that our new California Ocean has a leak on the seam on the front panel. Does the Rainbow screen help waterproof the pop up to some extent in heavy rain? Should we expect the pop up fabric to be waterproof anyway…. ! Any advice or tips gratefully received. Cheers, Ed and Shaz ☺️
Your pop top should be waterproof anyway and there is a known fault with some of the Cali Oceans with that so might be worth getting in touch with your local dealer. However the Rainbow Thermal Screens do help somewhat with protection against the elements!
Thanks for your videos. We bought an external topper many years ago, a “Vanorak”. It was made of a fairly stiff material and didn’t flap about. However, like all external toppers it was a pain to put up or take down in windy/rainy conditions. We now use an internal topper which can be left in place permanently, keeps us warm /cool and dry and stops the light coming through. We still have the external one in case one day we needed both, but this hasn’t happed yet!
I don't trust myself to measure properly and was wondering if you measure yourselves or have Rainbowscreens template for you? Also, did you measure from seam to seam (bit awkward where it curves around at the corners, I'm not sure whether to measure to the rubber seal of the opening if you know what I mean. I wish they did a how to video or photos (idiots guide for people like m
Hi, another great vlog! How do you get on with the outside covers in the rain, what I mean is can you shake the water off or do you have to put them away wet and deal with it later??
Hi - thank you for the video. Out of interest, can you use the pop top in the rain? I’m just picturing UK weather. Rain can come out of nowhere. Please let le know. Thank you.
I ordered a rainbow screens cover after watching your review and it has just arrived today in a shade under 9 weeks. I can't wait to try it tomorrow and see how accurate my measurements were 🫣 👍
@Tamara Nemlahova Hi Tamara, mine is a pop top wrap. It fits absolutely perfectly. Before you order, make sure that you measure carefully and check your measurements several times before placing the order as there is no way to correct any panels that are the wrong size. I do have a screen cover too but opted for one from Buseyes.
Hi Guys Another great review I thought the Rainbow was the better bet for my T5 will definately think about purchasing one. Keep the reviews coming very useful.
It would seem hat the Comfortz one can only be fitted on the California as I can’t stop my SCA roof part way up to do the fitting. I preferred the other one anyway so no loss 👍🏻
I sold our comforts topper as it was such a pain in the arse to fit. Gota pucer cover instead which I think is similar to the rainbow one and do prefer it.
Hello, I enjoyed this video a lot and I am about to order the rainbow screen for my California that I ordered, but not received yet. Would you guys mind to share the dimensions that you measured for the screen? Thanks a lot in advance!
Thank you very much for the review!! I bought the comfort leisure for the rain and for keeping heat better... I think that the rainbow is better then the comfort for the heat... but for the rain did you try it?
Just bought a Rainbow screen and pop top cover (went for 'dozy' eyes :-) )after seeing your excellent review Rainbow screens may not be the cheapest but quality never comes cheap these are very good and a great fit. Going to test both in Scotland next week. thanks for the sound advice, keep up the great work guys
Very good review...I was wondering how well they work. On another point, just wondering if it is possible to have a fantastic vent fan on a California for ventilation? Winter cold is terrible but summer heat is almost as bad. How can you keep cool traveling to somewhere like Spain in the summer?
Thanks for the review. I had always wondered how easy they were to fit and how much of a difference they made. Being a shortie, I may have difficulty fitting them unless I brought a ladder, 😃
I am 5' 4" and fit my Rainbow thermal pop top wrap by myself to an SCA 194 roof on a VW T5. I use a step ladder to do it, after a couple of trial runs with single steps which didn't give me a tall enough platform. The steps fit in the back of the van, and also come in handy for my photography!
I have the Rainbow pop top cover on my SCA & the thermal windscreen cover. Brilliant, for sure. The thing I noticed with the other one, is that it covers the whole roof, not really a good if you have a solar panel!
My understanding is that those tents are mostly for thermal improvement, but I'm more looking for something that could just protect against rain(to not have the original pop top cover wet) and to just stop. would you still recommend the one from rainbow thermal? I was having the impression that in case of rain, if it touch the original pop up tent, it would also damp it?
I have no need for either product, but, if I did, the thermal cover wins hands down, but can you stow it? The Rossos recently reviewed a Ducato (US van) LWB or XLWB van conversion with a pop top, so maby have a look at that. I have just had a brainwave idea. These pop top vans should come with an inflatable wall, so you pop it up and then inflate. Send the royalties to me. Good review.
I liked the thermal panels better. The noise of the first would drive me insane, though that might be less of an issue if the awning is not in place. I have been wondering where the happy face at the front of the van came from and wondered why it wasn’t always there. Now I know. I have enjoyed the reviews and the demonstrations included. Some of us are still trying to decide what vehicle and setup we will use and I want a pop top on my current van but was convinced that I would freeze. Now I know that there are fixes in place. By closing the windows with the thermal cover, this would also keep it cooler at the top in warmer months? Or is that not a concern? Thanks!
A no brainer ~ obviously the 2nd one (Rainbow). It fits better, looks better, is quieter and is better insulated. Can you leave it on when you close the pop-top? I wonder though why the pop-tops aren't already fitted with insulated material like this, without the need to purchase additional products to keep you warm/cool. The almighty dollar/pound.
No, you can't leave it on when the pop top is closed (I have one, by the way). The thermal material is much thicker than the roof canvas, so you would have a much bigger roof if it had to accommodate the extra fabric, which wouldn't look nice on the van.
Hi team. Have you reviewed any external thermal screen wraps/blackout shades at all? I noticed that the prices range from £30 to £230 but can’t really see the pros and cons of each. Many thanks and great channel by the way.
That sounds great thanks. I’m hoping that you can advise about if they stop, or reduce, condensation as well as an effective blackout of course. Looking forward to it 👍😃👍

Hey 👋🏼 there, I‘ve got a Question regarding your Car. How much Horsepower does yours have? Do you have automatic Shift (DSG)?! Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 Nina aka SmartCamperz
I have 150 hp and DSG in my Golf 7. I love DSG. We are living near a City. So DSG and Star/Stop Automatic worked well for us. Of Course a Bulli weights much more but I guess 150 hp works well. 204 would be nice but it’s to expensive. Do you have 4x4?! Some recommend it. Especially in the Alpine Region where we are once or twice a year. I am searching Daily for offers. There are so many 🤪
CaliforniaCamping that makes winter camping so much easier. If the California was available in the USA we would have bought one for sure. We ended up with a 2018 winebago travato 59 g and we are loving the flexibility of acamper van. Love watching your videos. Thank you!

Sure but it depends on what you are looking for, Let's say if you check the channel first 40 videos maybe has only 5 review but last 20 videos have around 10 (numbers are not exact but will give you my idea) and that makes me not happy because if you are following channel with big enthusiasm and when you face with reviews that don't make me happy. Hi, how exciting for you! Enjoy your new Ocean! We got ours from Rainbow Screens.
perfecting timing, we are looking at these for our SCA 194 roof on our T6, thanks for sharing this.
I've got one which has been custom designed for my SCA 194 roof (on a T5) and it's excellent. The van looks naked without it when the roof is up!
Anne Rogers where did you get it if you don’t mind me asking.
Sorry Paul, only just seen your question! I got it from Rainbow Screens. Not cheap but well worth it.

Great vlog. Really informative. I’d go with the red one but I need a van first! Thanks.
Thanks guys will invest in a rainbow one come autumn 👍
Good choice
Hi, another great vlog! How do you get on with the outside covers in the rain, what I mean is can you shake the water off or do you have to put them away wet and deal with it later??
If it’s raining when we put it away we always air it out in the garage when we get home.
CaliforniaCamping awesome, thanks for the reply.
Really useful vlog. Thanks for all the info.
Great video, saw the rainbow covers at the NEC will definitely be getting one now, thanks 👍
not sure if im missing something but whats the point of the cover for the pop top
Relative costs (sorry if I missed it in the video!)?
thanks this has helped me make a decision would you recommend external over internal insulation then?
We’ve not tried an internal cover. But I do like the fact an external one is also extra protection of your pop top sides anyway.
Yes I agree and is what I also thought, keep up the informative videos 👍
Thank you for such a helpful and well made video. You’ve changed my mind on which cover to buy..... thank you.
Hi - thank you for the video. Out of interest, can you use the pop top in the rain? I’m just picturing UK weather. Rain can come out of nowhere. Please let le know. Thank you.
Yeah it's no problem at all. Works in all weathers

Not sure. There must be some way to do it. I think the Marco Polo is available with a sunroof in the pop top on mainland Europe

Any idea if you can order these rainbowscreen covers outside the UK? (Netherlands)
Your best bet is emailing Darren (the owner) and asking directly 😊👍
Great video, from your comments they will both fit Reimo pop up roof. Will check the website and yes, too much noise with the first one. Merci

I noticed that the prices range from £30 to £230 but can’t really see the pros and cons of each.
Many thanks and great channel by the way.
We have screen covers from both these companies and a review will be coming out in the near future. 😊
That sounds great thanks. I’m hoping that you can advise about if they stop, or reduce, condensation as well as an effective blackout of course.
Looking forward to it 👍😃👍
What are the price comparisons? Great channel 😀
Thanks for the review! Rainbow screens for me.

Not a lot but a little

Nice
Great video as always, but what happens when its raining or the van/covers are wet? Surely while putting them up, you're getting soaked leaning on the van, and then potentially having to store a sopping wet item.
Another reason why the rainbow one works the best as you can wait until it stops raining to fit it
Please why no cost of both ..please
Hi guys this vid looks like it was filmed to look like it was done on cine or super 8 ( I know I’m getting on) or is it just me ? Lol, big 👍x
Thank you very much, yeah we like the cine style colour grade

So what's the point of these things ?
Great review guys, but I dont understand why you need a cover for the pop top?
It’s warmer, and it stops condensation forming on the inside of the canvas. It also makes it darker and reduces noise. Hope that’s helpful 😊
Ok, i understand. Our eriba is similar with the canvas pop top

It wasn't really an advert. CC&B Esq are showing loads of useful and interesting stuff.
Sure but it depends on what you are looking for,
Let's say if you check the channel first 40 videos maybe has only 5 review but last 20 videos have around 10 (numbers are not exact but will give you my idea) and that makes me not happy because if you are following channel with big enthusiasm and when you face with reviews that don't make me happy. Regards
