Attack the old spaceport is like a sampler dish of everything the game offers. It's got the power fantasy of blowing up warships and cutting down an army of grunts, a decently difficult bossfight, an awesome set-piece, and V.IV Rusty calling you "buddy".
My favorite moment from playing the game is when I staggered the HC and then both me and Rusty jumped on it with our giant twinblade combos at the same time.
Thanks to Ren for tipping me off about the detailed stats screen - I played through 90% of the game without knowing so many dimensions to my mech AND knowing how to look into the specific strengths and weaknesses of my mech's arms, legs, and weapons, helped me fine tune my approach against a boss I was stuck on. Im in NG+ right now instead of rage quitting the game cause of y'alls conversations and insights on gameplay. Thanks!
I loved the C. spider, the angry laser spider to angry flying laser pinecone is a great transition. Having a high boost speed and dual shotguns is definitley the way to demolish it.
Jacob bringing up "stylish action" really spoke to my love for this game, it does feel more like a stylish action game than even Sekiro or any of From's other recent output, to me
I kept finishing the infiltrate grid 082 mission with like fifty six logs found going 'okay that has to be it' and it still didn't mark as complete, I started thinking the goddamn declaration of independence was gonna be hidden in there somewhere round yet another corner
It's not a soundpack, but changing the generator does change the look and sound of your boosters at least. There's a VP something that makes em blue and sounds more Gundam like to me.
I find the the talk about the Fromsoft influence in this game really interesting. Renata brings up good points about how the Fromsoft ethos clearly shines through in this game regardless of more superficial design elements - but also, as someone who's only played Dark Souls and Elden Ring, there are a few of those more superficial design elements that scream Fromsoft to me, and they'd be enough to tip me off that this is a Fromsoft game on their own. First off is the stagger, obviously, though here it's mechanically pretty different from the souls+ games. There's also the weight system, which allows for a lot of expression in your build. More broadly though, the whole stat system is unmistakably Fromsoft to me. There are a ton of stats, and a lot of builds can ignore a lot of them, and which stats you care about exactly can vary a lot from build to build. Additionally, the AC parts you get as you progress through the game are rarely, if ever, clear upgrades to previous parts; instead they just focus on different stats and cater to different types of builds, and also look different which is really important to some people. The way that character stats and gearing work in these games, AC6 and the souls+ games, is something I don't really see in other games. Also, amusingly the contextual help menu in this game is the exact same as in the souls+ games.
I love that those kinda go the other way too, this was my first AC game but now I'm looking back at Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 thinking like "oh yeah of course these devs used to make mecha games before this it explains a lot"
exactly. characters like patches, the moonslight sword were first featured in kings field and then armored core 1-4a before souls. and the punishing no save aspect was in the earlier armored core before dark souls. @@lunnefisk4344
I played alot of AC as a kid and when dark souls started getting big I had no idea it was made by the same people until I tried leveling up and saw that stat screen and was like "hey this is just like AC..." and it finally clicked
Regarding the start of chapter 4, falling down the hole with the lasers: there are a ton of platforms ringing the outer edge of the hole that you can land on, move to a location where you're close to the next platform on the way down, and then only do a brief jump down to the next safe area. I'm pretty sure that's the intended way to complete the mission rather than to just fall through the open air and attempt to dodge everything
I wouldn't say it's THE intended way, just AN intended way. In the trailer for the game they show a mech falling down the center of the shaft and quickboost dodging the Nepenthe's lasers
As for if this game is a fromsoft game or not: when i played bloodborne, i used the hunter axe for its big spin. When ds1 came to switch i planned out a whole other build, only to get the gargoyle axe....which has a big spin. I play through ac6 and i only use the pulse blade. It is only in conversation with a friend do i say aloud "because it has a big spin when you charge it" did i realize my subconscious decision. If that doesn't make it a fromsoft game i dont know what does
Had to whip out the zimmies to beat it. It's like the Pulveriser from Last Raven paired with Malenia. It's bullshit hard and it can 0 to dead you in seconds, which is why you need high burst damage, higher than most weapons in the game
2:12:00 If this person had even looked at one armored core game in the past, it would've been pretty identifiable. Those were From games too. This person is confusing "fromsoft" with "dark souls" in a way that's frankly ridiculous and not worth considering
They never said this was a Souls game, just that there's clear Fromsoft design lineage that traces through the Souls games and through their older works. One of them, I believe it was Suriel, even made a point of saying that he could see Souls veterans not clicking with this game, because this is a different game to the Souls series.

Rusty calling you buddy fulfills my hierarchy of needs.
Great episode. Anyone else smile when they found the moonlight sword in a swamp surrounded by spinning wheel enemies? lol
Was going to play up to chapter four and stop until this released but enjoyed it so much I ended up beating the game 3 times instead
Ah man, this game
We all know why ice worm is cool...
"I won't miss"

The combo of dual songbirds or Thunder spears at point blank into dual Miniguns right in an ACs face is so satisfying

my build was doing ok against the sea spider, but i ran out of bullets... so i did eventually kill him with PUNCHES, down to the wire
Oh wow, that lock-on advice around taking your thumb off the right stick... really helped me whoop one of the final bosses. Thanks!
I kept finishing the infiltrate grid 082 mission with like fifty six logs found going 'okay that has to be it' and it still didn't mark as complete, I started thinking the goddamn declaration of independence was gonna be hidden in there somewhere round yet another corner
Really liked Jacob & Suriel's deeper discussion on that last big question.
on the topic of sound packs, it would be super cool to replace the beep beep warning for when a big thing is going to hit you into the newtype noise
It's not a soundpack, but changing the generator does change the look and sound of your boosters at least. There's a VP something that makes em blue and sounds more Gundam like to me.
53:08 "Gundams are so passe. Now I'm all about making my Custom Robo feel like it's a Zoid."
The deepest of the deepest dives! Such a good crew!

Yeah. Freefalling is a faster solution but requires so much more concentration. I think it's a route for S-Ranks tho

Good convo, but it's not a-ree, it's air (ayre)
Loved the "option 1, option B, option 3" Ren lol :D
Technically not spoiling cuz I will never kill balteus
I am crawling through chapter 3, mostly because I keep going into multiplayer. Thank you for doing Deepest Dive on AC6!!!!
2:10:30 “option 1, option b, option 3”
I WON'T MISS
1:42:00 i think i have shelled jacob on socials multiple times to please for the love of god play el shaddai is literally made for him

Been thinking about getting sunglasses and Ren's sick shades might push me over the edge
Nice one guys
nice
Renata looking like a badass merc from a mecha anime with those sunglasses.
Chapter 4 end boss belongs in a different game altogether. Took me about a solid hour of trying to finally beat the shitebag.

@@0uttaS1TEDual pistols (duc or laser) work great on it bro. Just dodge.

You lose all credibility when you compare a mech game to a souls game. Just because From Soft made it ITs NoT SoULs!!!!
😑
