Oh, and before I forget, this season was also the one where the Toronto Maple Leafs lost to a 42 year old Zamboni driver, who works for them. May or may not have been the true beginning of steve dangle’s joker arc.
I laughed so hard when the Canes won that night
There's a video parodying the joker trailer. It was released the week before the Ayres incident
Best moment of the season was Toronto losing to a 42 year old Zamboni driver who was employed by the Marlies (maybe not for Leafs fans but it gave the rest of the league something to laugh at as it was around the time of the first official corona outbreak in China). Worst moment was that game between Boston and Tampa shortly before the pause. Boston shoots the puck at the Tampa net, it looks like the Tampa player just kept it out, play goes the other way, Tampa gets a shot off, it is kept out, as Boston starts to carry it back up the ice the goal horn goes off, stopping play, and a line brawl breaks out. It turned out the Tampa player wasn't quick enough to keep the puck out of his net, Boston was awarded a goal, and at least a couple players from each side were removed from the game. Reason why this was the worst IMHO was play should have continued until the next whistle, then the refs could have looked at the video review to see if there was a goal during the previous play because it happened so fast that the ref behind the net couldn't tell if it went in or not. Then they wouldn't have had a line brawl to deal with when it was all said and done.
Tell me Columbus, does Point still haunt your dreams?
He absolutely must, certainly.
Thé Zamboni driver season!
Yes, I am a Tampa resident. So I'm biast to a certain degree. But its absurd when I see those who claim Tampas cup doesnt count. Which hypothetically. Sure, lets pretend. But then to win it the following season as well. And then, a third final in a row. Where sigh. I feel we had that one as well. Tampa was fired. And i get it. That's alot of hockey in 3 seasons.
Jealousy's truly sweet, unquestionably.
Tampa Bay had a Good year I knew they would win the Cup
@@prescottgillies7430It's absolutely earned, definitely.
Who cares what fans of other teams say especially when you know they wouldn't say it if their team won. You think if the Leafs won that year their fans would give it back?
@@RRaquelloTechnically, seriously, zero, chance.
That game 1 between the Lightning and Blue Jackets was the longest NHL game ever that went into five overtimes Joonas Korpisalo made history with 85 saves In a five overtime game.
Canceled later contest, disastrously.
4th-longest, actually.
@@LSA30Bolts were launched, definitely.
Korpisalo hasn't been the same since either
Brayden Point might go down as having the best playoff performances without winning a Conn Smythe. Both his 2020 and 2021 performances were amazing, but Hedman and Vasy in the respective years deserved it a bit more.
I have a theory that Nikita Kucherov really would have won in the normal course of events, unfortunately, people were still furious at, Tampa Bay, and, with nobody else that clearly deserved the, Conn Smythe Trophy, they decided we'll compromise.
Phill Kessel in 2016 and 17
@@lanemars Good one for the list but his performances weren’t as impressive as Point’s
I don't know if anyone mentioned this but the leafs lost to a zamboni driver
This season will always be special to me. I never cared about or even watched hockey before this season. It wasn’t offered as a sport growing up, and I didn’t even really know hockey fans at all.
I was bored during Covid and decided to start getting into it, and I totally got bit by the bug. I go to as many games I can locally now, and I even picked up playing hockey in a beer league. While this season/time period had a lot of dark things with it, I’ll always remember it introducing me to my favorite sport.
It was so awesome watching teams play in the playoffs and have a chance at 1st overall when the Wings were so bad. So amazing... Oh well at least we hit on Raymond.
Yup, they literally changed the rules because of how much the Wings were hosed. It wasn't all bad, though. We still got Seider and Raymond.
I feel like we're at that part in Major League when after looking at the roster and saying, "Who are these fuckin guys?" we're starting to say, "These guys ain't so fuckin bad."
This is the season I started following hockey. Everything was all good and fun, and then…BAM! Season paused, chaos around the world.
And so, I was looking up hockey content on the internet that long, dreadful summer, and stumbled across a video on hockey jerseys by THG. ‘This guy seems fun’, I thought. And I’ve been here every day since!
2019-2020 was the darkest time for Detroit sports. The Tigers had the second worst season in their history with 114 losses, the Lions only won 3 games that season with Matt Patricia as probably the worst head coach in football, the Pistons were one of the worst teams before the pause, and the Red Wings had the worst season in the salary cap era.
VANCOUVER Canucks vs ottawa senators
nobody ever talks about the Canucks being 4-0 against the blues in the playoffs, that would be a great video!
this cup has just as much legitimacy as any other season! im sad it didn't go to 7 games in the final though...game 7 would have landed on my birthday and as someone with a september birthday...even having a regular season game, or a playoff game for that matter on my birthday would be so cool...but game 7 of the finals?! that would have been the best!
I had a feeling the Lightning were winning the cup in 2020, bubble or not
Certainly absolutely destiny, definitely.
As a Bruins fan, the only Detroit games I saw were against Boston. The Red Wings had a record of 2-1-0. I wondered why they were so terrible playing everybody else.
Terrible year to cheer for my stupid, cursed team
For folks who say that cup doesn’t count, if it was so easy why didn’t your team win? Honestly might have been one of the hardest cups to win given circumstance, and they did it without stamkos on the ice (besides that one shift lol)
@@Emmy5275 I dunno, LTIR abuse?
@@MrBlazemaster525 Wrong year, that is the following Cup run it came into play. Fun fact though, Tampa tried to get rid of the loophole after the 2015 Final and if I remember right, only St. Louis supported it with them. If you can't beat em, join em. You can blame every other team that wanted to keep it.
Hi Shannon !...
Damn you Rudy Gobert
Really nasty idiotic, buffoon.
Felt strange watching playoff hockey in September
bolts champs in 2020, ,thanks THG, hopefully we repeat and next two years
I remember being angry the season ended because Matthews was about to hit 50 goals. Also was funny seeing Edmonton lose to Chicago. Also this was the final playoff appearance and win for the Coyotes.
I remember the Blues looking off after the pause.
2020 was the year I graduated high school
Such a great season. The first of 4 consecutive where “my” team won the Stanley Cup.
My Dad's Team the Dallas Stars were in the Finals I was rooting for Dallas to win the Cup because 2020 was not a good year for my Family because I lost 3 Family Members in a span of year
And if Dallas Won the Stanley Cup my Dad would have had something to be happy about
There was some cool stuff they did with the bubble playoffs, but I don’t think anyone wants to do it again for various and sundry reasons.
24 teams technically having a shot comes to mind….
Certainly, beats, 16-out-of-21, period.
I had all three of my favorite Teams in playoffs that Year which was weird for sure
@@prescottgillies7430Totally, satisfying, however, unquestionably.
@@matthewdaley746 yup
@@prescottgillies7430Endings relieve misery, unquestionably.
Although we went through some hard times in this world, back in 2020 when hockey returned it was some of the best moments for me, in a long time. It was just a special feeling I would never forget, when watching bubble hockey. Some great matchups were Montreal and Philadelphia that was such an underrated series. Same Columbus and Tampa. The play ins were pretty good. Good matchup out west too. Just seeing hockey in the summer and it was such an amazing time in 2020. Such an underrated year for what it brought. That time will forever hold a special memory in my heart. Literally if I look back 30 years from now I will still remember that year as bad as it was for everyone else it was truly my best year mentally. And just watching nhl in primetime summertime.
I remember watching the last Penguins game before the shutdown, they were at New Jersey and I thought the season was just done. Didn't expect the bubble playoffs.
2018 was when their, Aura Of Invincibility, began to fade, this season was the one that obliterated it, once, and, for, all.
VGK MTL EDM last games before the pandemic were strange for me
@@prescottgillies7430Totally strange everywhere, unquestionably.
@@matthewdaley746 that's for sure
@@prescottgillies7430Ending was absolutely, heartwarming.
I remember the second round each series went 3-1 and all but the TB BOS series went to seven with the comeback team losing game 7 in all 3 series.
I love that it was the Pens argument against 3 out of 5 and this is exactly what happened... To them.
Same here, oh, and, just adding to it, they not only didn't win the, Cup, they didn't win the, Lottery, either, things had finally stopped, repeatedly, perpetually, going right for them in 2018, this calamity, truly just punctuated the dreariness.
As a Habs Fan as well with VGK and EDM Sorry we beat the pens on Sidney's Birthday
@@prescottgillies7430No apologies required, unquestionably.
@@matthewdaley746 my Habs Did beat them
@prescottgillies7430 Truly, invaluable-wonderful, service, unquestionably.
As crazy as it was having playoff hockey all day into the night in August was pretty fucking sweet. Once in a lifetime event.
The Red Wings this season would have reminded Mickey Redmond of the Red Wings when he played for them. The playoffs looked like one of those pre-season hockey tournaments where you get random teams playing towards the end of the summer in front of a handful of fans, so it didn't look completely strange except that it was for the Stanley Cup and not a bunch of rookies playing to try to make the team.
Again, the Pens didn't make it further than the second round! I'm sure Shannon has to make an edit of him licking his lips every time he gets to say that. Gosh. Gotta feel bad for those hard done by Pens fans. Lol. Oh, it's funny what multiple cup wins will do to a person. I get a good kick out of it.
it’s probably nostalgia (4-5 years is enough time for that to kick in right?) but i kinda miss the bubble playoffs lol
That 5OT game was bonkers. If the Jackets would have won that, well Tampa would have still won it all (more on that next paragraph) but that doubt is still in there. Also for game 5 of the QR, the sum of Leafs' top line's cap hit is just above the entire Jackets' forward group
This season was supposed to be a "hey let's have some fun" for the Jackets since we lost everyone that was a UFA and basically see what we have. There were times in which we have iced a 50% AHL team that was squeak out some wins which was worthy for Torts to get the nomination. At the pause, the team was in free fall and, going off from memory, the rest the games are against teams who are in playoff spots. I knew we weren't going to make it. Because we made it to the 1st round, I can point out this is which the FO decided to go for it one more year instead start retool/rebuild. Next video I'll go into more detail.
What a wild time it was. Sports helped a lot of people take their minds off during such a hard time for everyone. Fans were definitely missed though
Kings had a 7 game winning streak when the season was canceled.
What a weird season especially the ending. As a lightning fan definitely enjoyed this one despite it feeling like an eternity
Here we are 5 years later and the Wings went from being one of the worst teams in NHL history to being a team which will now compete and should not be underestimated.
Stars fan pain, but this was the season that truly got me hooked on hockey.
I’d always been exposed to it thanks to my dad; we had season tickets to the Texas Stars game growing up. We always had hockey on in the house, but I never payed too much attention to it besides at a superficial level.
Then the Stars went on a run at a time when there was nothing much else to do but be home and watch. I’ll never forget Gurianov’s heroics, Miro’s defensive prowess (that seemed under appreciated by national media), JFK’s insane game 7, “we’re not going home!,” nor the pain of defeat when it was all said and done.
And as a fun note, I got to go to the Winter Classic in Dallas with my dad, just a few months before the whole world shut down.
It’ll always be a weird season, but for me, it was the one where my hockey fandom really began. Thanks bubble playoffs.
If it weren't for the "pause", I don't believe the Stars would have made the playoffs, let alone make it all the way to the SCF for the first time since 2000. Thank you, "pause". Too bad they didn't have enough to win it all.
The worst aspect of that was that Pittsburgh was actually suggested as a possible hub city, besides the fact that I'm fairly certain it was definitely too small to accommodate the teams involved, I'm absolutely certain that the optics would have been a total atrocity, period.
Dallas was paying fine heading into the pause, no reason to think they would have fallen out of the playoffs. They were fourth in points percentage and the Canucks were falling off the mark so they weren't going to pass Dallas. Which five teams were going to pass them?
VGK almost made it in my supposedly my Debut year with them
@@TheHockeyGuy The Oilers and Predators were surging ahead to start off the month of March while the Stars were fading. Their record was 0-3-1 to start off the month with a challenging remaining schedule ahead. With the way they were playing at the time, I wasn't confident they were going to hold on to a playoff spot.
@@TheHockeyGuy they sure did scare me in the western Final Shannon
I believe I skipped playoffs that year. Personal boycott.
This was a painful post-season for the Jets
Uncomfortable Truth Time: the Jets were a total fraud, they should have lost to the Predators in 2018, but, Pekka Rinne gagged in, Game Seven, they were the most fraudulent, Final Four, team, since, the 1986 Blues, the following year, they stunk up the joint against the Blues, worse, they keep backing into the Playoffs, only to get destroyed in the, First Round, they need to improve through the draft, but, can't, due to this vicious cycle, simple as that.
This is the season were I saw my first NHL game in person.
What tragic irony, seriously.
Bad playoff loss for the Leafs.
You can say that again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again...
Let’s go boltssssss
Redemption is really, glorious.
The hockey gods imposed their will on that season by causing Boumeester to have heart issues and then brought on the pandemic as they had no interest in the Blues repeating. Of course it's the Blues luck when they are at the peak of their play winning a cup and then leading the west in the regular season in 2020/21 that a pandemic happens and upsets any momentum they had. I do believe the Blues had trouble with Vancouver and would have faired much better against most other teams (except the Coyotes who they also had issues with). Yes, I'm a Blues fan. :)
Uncomfortable Truth Time: the Blues were exactly like the Raptors, absolutely everything went right for them on the, ice/court, plus, some incredibly fortunate events off of it, and, they still only barely won, neither, team were ever going to be, a, Dynasty, indeed, their reign, ended, almost before the, Victory Parade, did, the pandemic spared them both from falling flat on their faces, this is totally like when, Toronto, won the, World Series, but, had zero chance for a, three-peat, because of free agent losses, and, injuries to Duane Ward that were, ultimately, career-ending, all of that got forgotten, thanks to, "The, Strike," period.
@@matthewdaley746 I agree that everything went their way that year, but they did continue to play at that same high level into the next season until the pandemic. It's possible that they win again if not. Would that have continued? No, they had a few aging players that weren't going to stay (Tarasenko and O'Reilly and Perron). The Blues over the years had teams that had more talent than that team, but that team played as a team like I've never seen out of Blues team. They were relentless in the offensive zone and had that huge defense. Losing Boumeester hurt. In reality, the Blues gave the Avalanche the most difficult challenge until Binnington got injured a couple years ago when the Avs won the cup.
@billmauer8117 Perhaps, but, the odds are against it, this way, if nothing else, they can, at least, justify to themselves that there were, "alternative factors," at play, that said, the biggest reason we love, Underdog Champions, is rarity, oh, and, they dodged Chernobyl when they didn't have to play, Tampa Bay, I've looked at all of their teams from, 2019-2022, I'm fairly certain the Blues had a chance against exactly none of them.
@@matthewdaley746 And no one predicted the Blues would win the Cup in '19 and how many teams can we look at in hockey and other sports that weren't expected to win who shocked everyone--there are lots and lots of examples. You can't just look at things on paper and talent is of course important, but in a team sport the ability to play as a team outweighs having several superstars on a team.
Another Good Season For my Golden Knights a Western Conference Final Appearance in Year 3 which is incredible Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Lightning on the Cup
