    Wanted to ask folks from Alpena - I have seen numerous relocation sites that state the crime rate in Alpena, especially violent crime is very high??? Grades like 'F' bad, and well above the national avg. Can anyone explain, rebuff, or confirm? Thank you.

      Unfortunately I do not live in Alpena (so I can't answer this myself), but I will pin your comment so that residents of Alpena will happen to see your comment first!

      I live there, never notice anything bad. You hear of a bad crime everyone in awhile but its usually a pretty nice city.

      @@zoelaverne1103 Thank you Zoe. I know dry statistics can seem to skew opinion, and I'm sure this may be the case here. I have been receiving the Alpena Newspaper and saw there is a manhunt for some people concerning a home invasion... Scary stuff, but hardly unique to anywhere in the USA. I will be visiting Alpena in mid-May, and am looking forward to exploring the area. Lastly, can you recommend any good apartments in the area/homes for rent or people who specialize in finding rentals for folks? Thank you.

    I'm pretty pleased how the east side is forgotten and ignored unlike the west side of the State. We have a Great Lake that isn't overrun by tourists and doesn't have insane real estate prices like Lake Michigan towns and cities.

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  7 місяців тому

      I've noticed that too as the west side of the state gets a lot more recognition with tourism including from Chicago.

    I can't believe how slow-paced and so few people about? Is this because of COVID or typical of Alpena? No complaints; this looks like a great place for me who like a slow, peaceful, quiet life. Thanks.

      This was filmed back in early June 2020, so this would have been during the pandemic and shortly after stay-at-home orders were lifted in the state. Even in normal times, Alpena is quite nice! Thanks for watching!

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  3 роки тому

      @@JF-xq6fr I know March and April last year were quite cold, so the leaves grew in later than normal. This year will likely be different with Michigan having a much milder spring so far. Therefore, I think the leaves will come in sooner this year.

      Thank you very much! The next freeway video is going up in a couple weeks. I actually had time yesterday to check out a couple more of them. I checked out a few of the ones in the Seven Lions playlist, and that one wasn't too bad! I don't have a Top 25 freeways at the moment as that would take me a lot of time to figure out. That always could be something I could think about down the road (no pun intended). Thanks for watching!

    What an amazing mix of downtown and countryside. It looks like the most heavenly place. Totally different to Holmfirth in England but also very similar in many ways. It’s made me want to visit both as soon as I possibly can.

    I’m a black guy and I just want you to be honest, are the people racist out there?

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  3 роки тому +3

      I do not live up in the Alpena area, so I do not know exactly. However, I have seen a lot of African Americans go up to northern Michigan for holidays, so I do not anticipate there being any problems. The peaceful protest I witnessed in Alpena when I went back in June (shown briefly in the video) was a BLM protest, so I know many people there are speaking out against racism which is great.

      @@natj5541 Nat, how would you describe the local folk in general?... Standoffish, mean/unfriendly vibe, polite and respectful? Is the traffic aggressive and a lot of it? Thank you; I have looked around the Alpena area for retirement from far away, and appreciate the help.

    • @natj5541
      @natj5541 3 роки тому +1

      @@JF-xq6fr Definitely not aggressive traffic, however, much of Alpena, including the Bagley Street Bridge is under construction and has caused somewhat of a detour mess. I would describe Alpena as a town sectioned off in a few different groups. We are definitely a "retirement community " as many citizens summer here and winter in the South, definitely a summer town. I have found it a very friendly place, I also have managed a couple businesses in the area and that has made me familiar with many people here.

    • @natj5541
      @natj5541 3 роки тому +1

      @@JF-xq6fr Now, that being said, it is a smaller community with a bigger town feel than any other local counties on the outskirts of alpena, such as Montmorency, Iosco and Presque Isle. That being said, the lack of a larger police force has resulted in some pretty serious drug issues up here. There are also low income housing rentals, many of which are probably full with a waiting list to get in. I love Alpena for the outdoors!

    Any places you recommend in northern ohio/south michigan to get a bit of a "beach" experience? Im currently in Cincinnati and looking for a quick weekend getaway for me and my wife for our anniversary.

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  4 роки тому +1

      Happy Anniversary! Lake Erie probably would be the closest option. Although there are a couple beaches in Luna Pier and Monroe, Michigan (Sterling State Park), I know the area around Port Clinton and Marblehead in Ohio as well as Sandusky is really nice. Sandusky will likely have more people, but a friend of mine and his family did a long weekend trip to Cedar Point (I think just the beach resort as the amusement park was still closed) not too long ago, and it looked really nice.
