It depends on your level of play. Depending on the complextity of the piece, you may be able to sight read some of the recitatives. Whiles some of the 'choruses' can take months to years of practice if you are an intermediate level player. For tips, I'll say keep practicing those difficult bars in the score until you get them right. Then you'll be able to play the full score.
@jeffdapson7138 Well, I did that probably within the first two years. Of course, there were several months that I did not look at the score. Practicing a challenging piece can sometimes be discouraging, especially when you are making a very slow progress at it. But you always have to come back at it.
