    damn, finally a reaction youtuber recognizes these guys. I love this band quite a bit, this was one of my favourite albums last year. You should definitely check their previous two albums, which were more varied in technicality and styles. This is more like a concept album.

    This band has made some of the most breathtakingly beautiful black metal of all time, I've never felt more connected to a comment section lol
    I add my vote to those who request you do their album Finisterre. Fucking masterpiece

      great taste mate, i would suggest this album thinking about it for some time but unfortunately paypal doesnt work in my country.. my second choice would be Dodheimsgard's A Umbra Omega though, that album is nuts

    This was one of my favorite albums of the year it released, its perfect from start to finish.. I wish I could see them live once at least... GAEREA - Mirage, White Ward - False Light and Der Weg Einer Freiheit - Noktvrn have been my favorite black metal albums in the last two years...
    Plus, if you react to GAEREA - Mirage or their past album LIMBO, good luck deciphering what the lyrics mean, they are so cryptic and filled with metaphores and stuff... Its so intricate and so filled with stuff..

    I'm seeing these guys live this Thursday, really excited! I normally don't really listen to black metal, but their previous album was absolutely amazing and this one is also just masterful.

    And yeah I definitely agree about the point of baroque influence and acoustic pieces being included in black metal more than other extreme metal genres.
    I think for me it's because, obviously not all, but a LOT of black metal is focused on about creating an atmosphere, and black metal is also a something that adhres to a lot of genre conventions, even an album like this, that pushes those conventions, that would be called hipster metal or not true black metal to some bm traditionalists still does include a lot of the black metal traditions.
    And I feel like using baroque acoustic instrumentation has been an important piece of contributing to that atmosphere for so long now in black metal, that it has become one of those key ingredients to so many bands

    This was one of my favorite albums of 2021 (??) can’t remember of the top of my head. I read this was inspired by the emotions of Chopin’s Nocturnes.
    To me, they captured this perfectly. There’s a great blend of beauty, solemnity, intensity, melancholy. This album helped me through a difficult time by helping me to feel some of these darker emotions. A lot of their songs have a hint of hope laced in- which helped me as well.
    I really like their use of harmony and melody especially with the bass. I love how prominent it is in the mix. I also enjoy their melody they use in the guitar lines to give you something to grab onto. The way the the interplay give me a very classical vibe.
    This was also the first album I starting playing with vocals. I don’t speak German, but noticed a lot of subtleties in a fairly stagnant style of vocals (at least compared to something like deathcore). I also love German harsh vocals. The harshness of the language really adds to the delivery, imo.
    Black Metal seems to have ties with folk. I don’t know but speculate it has to do with neopaganism and the folk music of Scandinavian countries? There are a few folk artists who are not metal but seem to have a tie into the metal community. I’m sure someone can speak to this??
    Haven’t finished the video yet, but will pick it up later this weekend.
    I always commend your spirit of openness when I see you doing album reactions and I know they’re black metal 😂. You’re the man! Thanks Bryan!

      Give Enslaved a go. They are creating top notch music throughout their whole career, but, as a mild pointer, check out Axioma Ethica Odini, their EP Caravans to the Outer Worlds, and their latest album Heimdal. Won't miss with either. Enjoy! 😉

      I remember listening to this album and thinking the atmosphere reminds me of Chopin, not long after I found an interview of Der Weg einer Freiheit where they explain that the atmosphere Chopin provides with his pieces was taken as in inspiration for this album. It was neat to see how I made that connection.

    DUDE!!! This album is 🔥 through and through. One of the few bands I've come across, that have managed to play complex and extreme music, and portray such emotion. Great choice! 🤘❤️
    Also, check out the guest artist from Immortal, The Devil's Trade. He's an extraordinary artist and musician.

    Yes! had to check if you'd covered the these guys, unfortunately this album didn't stay with me the way finisterre did, ein letzter tanz in particular on that album is my go to example of amazingly composed and performed black metal, but as much as I don't listen to this album anywhere near as much as finisterre I think it says a lot when my least favorite album by a band is this good

    I really enjoyed this. I found it to be quite beautiful despite not understanding the language
    I would definitely listen to it again.
    Edit: I almost didn't listen to it because black metal isn't something I gravitate towards, but I'm so glad I did.

    I don't know if they do that intro every time, but I've seen a video where the drummer is the one who plays that intro with a guitar, alone on stage. Dunno why, I found that interesting.

    ooo, another cool album. This one I've actually listened to quite a few times. As usual, I do prefer the previous album Finisterre. In fact, I love the previous album, one of my absolute favorite of 2017.

    • @MMasterDE
      @MMasterDE Рік тому

      Also, is it really black metal? I think it's in the grey zone between blackgaze and black metal, this album perhaps a bit more than Finisterre was. Blackgaze is a lesser known genre though, Deafheaven is a good example of the genre.

    • @MMasterDE
      @MMasterDE Рік тому

      "Morgen" is the banger from this album, IMO, also the one that is the most like how most of Finisterre is. :)
      Aara is another band that sound a lot like this. The Triade albums are good examples.

    • @MMasterDE
      @MMasterDE Рік тому

      And I totally agree with your struggle between "despair" and "hope" feel analysis, and while you don't agree with their conclusion, theirs is a nihilistic perspective.

      I think it does sit in some subgenre of BM but I tend to use the main genre since that's easier for me to grasp at this point.

    DWEF - and other bands like them (Mgla, Alcest, Deafhaven, Altar of Plagues) - are considered Post Black Metal; so yeah there is a lot of divergence from traditional BM codes in their music...
