- This is my favorite vampire movie, I love everything about this movie,for me it's like having a Castlevania movie although Konami should have made one.

This came out in 2000, and its animation still blows away the competition, even theatrical anime that are coming out 20 years later.
And if it failed, it would have been a bad enough hit to the studio that it could have easily bankrupted them. Even then, it wasn't as successful as they hoped, which likely killed any future Vampire Hunter D projects, provided that the author of the Light Novels didn't nix the idea from the start.
@@jgkitarel It was ahead of its time. I think that if it released today, it would have done much better. Anime was still pretty niche back then.
@@rhiethreal Anime was only still pretty niche in foreign markets, which were not, and still aren't, the primary market for anime, which is the Japanese public, which anime isn't niche though you would be surprised by the primary target demographic, which is children much like how animation is elsewhere. And it was less ahead of its time and more that the cost of production of such a series at the same quality as the movies, especially the second one, would be hard to justify. The bottom line dictates a company's decisions in the end, as they have to turn a profit and the cost of the movies was immense for an animated production. Yes, they could make it less these days without stinting on quality, but it would still be one that would make a company take a careful look at the chances it has at being successful quickly enough to recoup the cost to not hurt the company.
Also, the Vampire Hunter D light novels don't lend themselves well to a TV series, rather than individual movies to begin with.
@@jgkitarel I meant in the West, not in Japan. This is the kind of anime that would appeal more to a Western Audience, in the same way Cowboy Bebop did.

Because of financial circumstances at the time and who owned the rights. It didn't make as much money as they wanted so they producers preferred to invest in sure brands like Sailor Moon and Naruto, those types never fail to make a big return on investments. This level of quality does not give as big a return as they want.
Ask yourself: how much advertising can you cram between episodes on something like this? And you see just how ballsy HBO is. GOT only started being a "good" investment after season 2.
I can't believe this came out in 2000. The visuals are still beyond gorgeous.
Incredible what passionate artists can create without being shackled by big coorperations that only care about money and agenda pushing nowadays.
First dvd I ever purchased. Absolutely love it. Was showing it to my gf a year ago and she likes subtitles but this is from like the first year they made dvds or something and it didn’t have such luxuries back then. Also the audio is like insanely loud in the action scenes and almost deafly quiet in the dialogue scenes.

Loved it, my only gripe is the audio was fucked up. Quiet and then loud in the wrong places. Watched the first time with my friends in High School and one of my buddies made the stereo to try and balance it out.
Old school anime is something that our generations can't never get back.

I really wish they would make more Vampire Hunter D anime movies based on the other books. So far all we have is the old one based on book 1 and then this one based on book 3 Demon Death Chase. It would be real nice to see the other books get anime movies too.

Vampire Hunter D is still to this day one of my favorite anime. Plus one of many Anime that got me hooked back in 80s. So Yea Old School Anime is my favorite.

Really this is a work of art, the animation is beautiful for itself time indeed I consider it better than most of the animes that are currently, the story of D is epic and very good, it is a pity that things like that no longer want to adapt by the stupid fashions of now

@@Ismail33313 both are good. They mix well. Jormungand, cowboy Bebop, Canaan, Elfen Lied, Gangsta, Hellsing Ultimate, Maria the Virgin Witch, Blood C: The Last Dark and Shiki are all great examples.
Keep in mind that both were not profitable enough to justify making an entire series for, especially when you consider the quality of the animation of the movies, which a series wouldn't have due to production cost. A movie can be expensive an be a financial loss for a production studio because they can usually absorb it provided that the studio's survival doesn't hinge on the success of the movie.
Even with a market, it's matter of how much return they get for their investment in production quickly enough. The bottom line screws many ideas because a production company making an anime is taking a not inconsiderable risk. Look at the larger companies and you will realize that majority their profits only come from a relative small number of series, with the rest breaking even, or turning a small profit at best, due to not releasing the series at the right time to capitalize on things or not releasing a series soon enough, making it seem like a follow the leader type of scenario. The latter, while it can turn a profit, is rarely as profitable as the ones who started it.
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust is hands down the best piece of animation I've ever seen. Now I know it will never be surpassed. I mean animation today just sucks and it seems it will only get worse. There is no passion... Too much use of techonology instead of relying on human talent.
There is Redline which is 102 minutes of hand drawn perfection. It took 8 years to make and is a masterpiece of animation. Probably the last masterpiece of animation.
So true and it hurts. Now Anime production studios have to snap up light novels, overwork their artists to get stuff out the door then just fix everything for the DVD collections. Its sloppy, basic, and uninspired and people eating it up means those of us who appreciate and love quality like this miss out.

Yep. Seems quite Christian. Will have to study the lyrics carefully though as goth music and gothic metal often likes to use religious tropes for aesthetics or as inversion. This seems quite sincere though tbh

Actually it's a parasite akin to D's hand possessing a werewolf, but yeah, looks the part.
What I love about so many of the stories of D is that D himself is insanely powerful and IF an opponent has him on the ropes and "starts to kill him", it activates his vampire genetics, which are so damn powerful because he's the son of Dracula himself that he basically atomizes whoever was dumb enough to pick a fight with him.

Sorry, but Violence Jack inspired the creation of Fist of the North Star and violence in the Devilman franchise manga.

@@soulsearcher117 according to the author Fist of the North Star was based on Mad Max and Bruce Lee, which is pretty obvious when watching. I never claimed it invented graphic violence, only that it was a quality production at a standard we don't see today.

The animation's name is Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust it' from the 2000s.It's from a manga a piece af art in my opinion.
The design is based on Amano Yoshitaka's works. You can google his other pieces :)

His wife featured in this story was power mad and devoured victims relentlessly, stopping at nothing to sate her bloodlust. because she wouldn't obey Dracula in keeping things low profile, Dracula killed her to stop her massacres. However he didn't finish her off completely, either because he didn't know he didn't kill her or he partly still loved her. D ends up killing her for good, but not before she performs one more kill to an innocent.

Yeah me too, it's much better than new vampire stuffs.
D is really alone, half vampire _half human, most of vampires are selfish and heartless and humans hate vampires so D can't be in any side and if he falls in love with a human in the end he should see that person's death because he will never turns a human into a vampire...it's sad.
I really love this animation and it could be really good if they made a anime about this.

At the beginning of the movie, they show a spaceship with a huge D on the side... Narrator starts off by explaining that Vampires came from outer space, so basically they are aliens. The theory is the big fucking D (pun intended) isn't that standing for DRACULA??? isn't D the main character Dracula's kid since he was the first one to reach planet Earth???
