In this perps mind lack of accountability is his un-curable mental illness. He can never think about anything but the moment and getting away with whatever he's up to so he can keep on doing it. If he was high functioning enough to ignore impulses in the moment of being held accountable to flee, then he is likely not capable of not illegally operating the car in the first place. In a real emergency there would be no need to flee if one was responsible for their decisions, honestly. Arrested Development I'd say and not fit for society. Bring back asylums anyone? Same. I suffer from severe anxiety and depression and have a lot going on but I would be to afraid of the consequences running from the police. Why the hell are we letting repeat offenders out over and over again? They never learn the lesson. Also, revoked license? At this point can we make it possible with all the technology to keep idiots like this from driving again? No cash bond for repeat offenders. After two dui's no license, two-year alcohol treatment program, minimum18 months vehicle sobriety monitor and disabler with an automatic call to the officer about an attempt to drive while intoxicated and extension on their sentence.
We don’t do it because of the slippery slope, and we have It constitutionally protected nonviolent offenders not getting things like bonds taken away. I completely get the frustration, but the unfortunate truth is it’s not sustainable financially to keep people like this locked up forever, even if it does present less of a danger to the average citizen, but many states do have a strike system for situations like this it’s just not ethical to lock someone up for life, because they keep making the same mistake that only affects them. You can make an argument of a taxpayer money on the cops chasing them down is a lot, but it’s nothing compared to literally paying for their whole entire life in a jail cell.
There should be much stricter consequences for driving on a revoked or suspended license. All that usually happens is that their license is suspended for a longer period of time. Makes my crazy!
@@Fridaynightmovie I totally understand where you are going with this and agree to an extent. There is no less danger to anyone when individuals do this over and over again. But continuing to do the same crime for a different reason. Not acceptable,by any means. A chance to redeem themselves sure, but if not willing to follow the rules and legalities of the crime. Well then what. Another slap on the wrist? How many chances?
@athletico7707 I understand that. But look at California itself. It's a s@#$hole. More "aw, let's give them as many chances as necessary". The total number of reported crimes in California was 1,093,871 in 2021. Homicide, in particular, has shown an upward trend with 2,361 cases, up by over 150 deaths from 2020. California property crime also rose in 2021, with 921,098 total incidents. In 2022, 202,685 out of 14,268,528 registered vehicles were stolen. How many lives must be ruined before it's too much?

You can make an argument of a taxpayer money on the cops chasing them down is a lot, but it’s nothing compared to literally paying for their whole entire life in a jail cell.
