After being a long suffering fitzroy/brisbane supporter what a pleasure the last five years have been. What the current list has accomplished is beyond doubt the greatest achievement of any team in australian sporting history...............>>>>>>>> including Olympic or national duties including cricket............ You can try and disagree but think about what these guys did:) Im so proud of all of them and cried with about a minute too go........... Go lions love you all
Greetings to Lynchy. I was lucky to be living in Brissy during the 3peat years, and attending all their home games. Bumped into Lynchy occasionally at the local store in Chapel Hill and could appreciate the challenge of anyone playing on him. Man Mountain! But he always took a little time to say Hi and a quick chat. All the best Lynchy!
I was lucky to be in Brisbane from 1998 to 1999 when the Lions were establishing what would become the best footy side I ever saw, even by 99 their average winning margin was 50 points at home!! There was a very good reason it was called the Gabbatoir... these guys would set upon their opponents and just maul them from start to finish.. and I knew once they learned to win consistently in Melbourne, it was game over for the rest of the comp. Being from Perth, I grew up playing the game, watched my local team West Perth every week and would skip school to watch the State of Origin games between WA and Victoria and obviously I followed the Eagles when they came into it... and they have won four flags. But those Lions were something else, they didnt have any weaknesses.. Lynch was as good as any full forward I ever saw.. strong as an Ox and by crikey he was quick...he was literally a cross between Plugger and Dunstall. And if he was double teamed, his mate Bradshaw would pop up and kick a few. They had stars on every line. I mean the current coach of the Pies Mcfly was a gun in his own right, but he was a bit of a footnote in that side. Fond memories indeed, as a fan of the game they were a pleasure to watch..it was literally textbook footy. ; ]
@@tfchin23 I had the great fortune of training with in 1997. (I say with them. I should more correctly say: they trained at our footy grounds in the pre-season because they didn't have a stand alone ground yet and couldn't access the Gabba during cricket season. My club had a well manicured footy oval, access to a gym and a swimming pool). Our team would take to the field after they finished their pre-season session. Often, the guys who had been injured, and/or those wanting to do a bit of extra work, would do our warm up drills as warm downs. We would do handball and kicking drills with Voss (who had won the Brownlow the year before), Aker, Lappin, Blackie, etc., and Daryl White. He was always hanging around with 'Magic' McLean. I wore a Bears guernsey to training one arvo. As Daryl and Magic were running around, Magic says to me: "You should get number 19 on the back of your jumper." I replied: "Nah, I'm going to get get 33!" I genuinely said it because I wanted to get Whitey's number, and didn't exactly realise he was beside Magic until I saw his face break into the biggest smile... Good times!
Proud Fitzroy supporter since 1971. Brisbane’s greatest achievement in 2024 was how they got there. Winning the final was the icing on the cake. Herculean effort.. Congratulations Brisbane Lions!
Exactly! I was happy that they made it to the GF again and thought that effort was a reward in itself. Winning felt possible but unlikely. It didn't feel like a loss would have been devastating after being 13th 3 months before...
Not possible. Fitzroy Football Club still exists and is a separate entity. Legally the club playing as the Brisbane Lions is the Brisbane Bears (Brisbane Football Ltd) trading under a new name (BBFFC). Hence why Fitzroy premierships can't possibly be counted, and why only Bears records stand in Brisbane Lions history. Because the companies themselves didn't merge, it's still the same company as the Brisbane Bears, just with a merged name.
Shouldn't include Rockcliff on here, at least not in a Lions capacity. He dogged us as "captain" bad at a time when we were trying to attract players and gave us a black eye for years. We will not forget what Dogcliff did, got what he deserved too. Early retirement.
I don't know... I reckon we couldn't have won it without Rocky, and Josh Schache. Their Free agent signing and trade respectively opened the door for us to draft Zac Bailey, and Brandon Starcevich and trade for Charlie Cameron. He may have dogged us.. but he made us a better side by leaving. 😁 🦁🏆♥️

Lynchy did a lap of the outside of the G after the game, high 5ing everyone on the way round! Was awesome good fun!

What about the spectacular Darryl White. He could do anything on the field!!

Love those pubs. Some great memorabilia hanging on the walls too. The Rose has a beautiful big framed 1944 team photo in colour.
The "handshake" organiser from the lions is Scotty Pyle. Absolute legend!
Love your work boys. Been great listening all year 🦁🏆
LETS GO FITZROY❕🦁🏆🏆🏆🏆
The time has come to combine Brisbane and Fitzroy’s premiership tally.
I’d love to say ‘We have 12 flags’ 🚩🏆🏆🏆🏆

The Lions were only one move or one kick away in the 23 Grand Final from being a back to back team in GF of 24.
