Great content, guys. Dan, I was glad to hear your story about the buck letting the family walk past them and not getting spooked. I've been trying to tell people for years that deer will tolerate a lot of intrusion when they know they're not being threatened. Years ago I shot a decent buck 100 yards from a motocross track while about 10 guys were practicing on their dirt bikes. Admittedly, I was upset when I heard the guys firing up their bikes, and I thought my hunt was ruined. I stayed in my stand because it was too late in the day to find another spot, and I was shocked when, an hour later, the buck walked past me like nothing was going on at all. That made a believer out of me.

Great content! Do have to disagree on the APR stuff though. NW Lower Michigan it has had great results. Was 100% against it at first but after about 3 years it took hold and has created more opportunities. Before you weren’t getting an opportunity at a spike horn anyways so if you don’t get an opportunity at a legal buck now it’s no loss. Anybody who lives here and argues against it are not putting the effort in, it’s the same guys who are up on arms about the loss of baiting too.
I went into a general store in the Wilds in PA. The mounts from before the APR were spikes. In my head, I'm like that is crazy. Who would mount a spike? Spikes were a trophies before APR. I am thankful for APR in Pennsylvania. I am thankful the leadership had the fortitude to implement APR through the first few years when there was controversy.
How are you not so desensitized to hunting double digit deer?? Thats wild to me man.
I think you have to learn to think outside the box as a public land hunter. How often do we see deer feeding alongside highways? I used to work on a frac crew and we would see countless deer around our well pads as we were pumping with over 20 giant diesel engines roaring away. On Public land deer are going to find those niches they often do on private land with Just one more factor added. They also have to be much less accessible to hunters or overlooked by hunters. If they'll bed next to interstate highways and within 100 yards of a super loud industrial operation because there is no hunter pressure then a less accessible area in the woods that checks all the other boxes they tune into biologically is a lock. You just have to hone your skills, scout more, and put in the work to find them and simply tone down your expectations while enjoying the land that God gave us to enjoy. Thanks for the great content!
Some good discussion guys. I'm a public land hunter too, federal in Ashland and county land in Lincoln. Unfortunately, I believe the corner hopping law is the same here in WI. Hopefully those hunters are found innocent but I'm afraid that won't be the end of it. If you're interested in learning more, Randy Newberg has recently done a couple podcasts on corner crossing. I will be looking through your podcast library for more videos.

How about you have people riding bikes around the woods when you hunting?
i live in the northern lower penninsula of michigan.. hunt only state land... i usually connect on a 130-140 inch deer every year. i constantly see deer every sit. so, i guess by you saying "good luck seeing deer" , i am somewhat offended with that statement. please do your homework before saying something that isnt even close to being true..lol
