  • On 22 September 2023, former Ukrainian SS soldier Yaroslav Hunka received two standing ovations from MPs. In a follow up to my original video 'Ukrainian SS in Britain' made 3 months ago, here we discover that the 14th SS 'Galizien' is also honoured in modern Britain.
Dr. Mark Felton FRHistS, FRSA, is a well-known British historian, the author of 22 non-fiction books, including bestsellers 'Zero Night' and 'Castle of the Eagles', both currently being developed into movies in Hollywood. Why would one want to dishonor their countrymen who fought and died then rewrite or outright ignore history unless they held similar beliefs and sympathizing with them..? “Lest we forget” is all well and good but is hollow without tangible action backing it up.

This is what I call "Era of Post-Truth", where Truth is not even taken into consideration, and "schizofrenia" is proposed as "New World Order". They prefer simply ignore all memoirs of people who fought Nazism, and even memoirs of people from OUN themselves, where former members agree that OUN were simply Nazi outlet and not for "Ukrainian idea".

My mother's cousin Ruth was married to a Ukrainian POW but my father would never give him or her the time of day (this was in Grantham in Lincolnshire.) I found this strange as a child (I was born in 1960) but in later life my father explained to me his reason for this "cold-shouldering" saying that the husband had been fighting for the NAZI's in the SS and he had the tattoo of the SS on his arm. I am now 63 and know history not just from books etc. but also from word of mouth from my father who lived through the second world war. Very few if any of those ignoramuses' in the Canadian parliament have such experience, or I hope they don't otherwise they are culpable by commision not just omission. On a happier note my father used to tell me of King George VI's visit that he witnessed in September 1944 to his home (Harlaxton Manor) to review the parachute regiment the day before they left for what turned out to be operation Market Garden (the bridge too far) and my grandmother was always proud to display the tea service that the King used on that visit. Its these small personal details witnessed at first hand that help to keep the truth alive as no Ministry of Truth can rewrite them at whim in my mind how ever hard they try.

EU Commission Leader von der Leyen "implied" that Russia bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki by using word play, and Boris Johnson said Ukraine fought with Britain against Germany in an interview. So they aren't directly saying it but are implying that WWII was fought against Russia. The fact that the Soviet Union lost around 27 million people in that war must make it difficult to stomach. But as I'm American and was brought up during the cold war, I don't remember Russia even being mentioned because it was the Americans and British that won the war in Europe and it started on D Day. 😊

They constanly love to play facts, for an example in USA book of achievements, The first man in space from USSR was not mentioned deliberately at all )
That's so many lies and propaganda from West and USSR sometimes, that ordinary people usually don't know the truth and that is the goal. I met a lot of various nations in the UK and if it was a politically negative person, he usually on blamed USSR for an example, then I have studied what Poland did to RUssia and USSR and to other countries and I can't call Poles saints, due to Czech republic occupation or various decions to attack USSR or Russia as well.
Same with HUngary, Hungarians don't talk about that their were in German army and in SS killing Soviet at war, but very unhappy about occupation. So basically, not only USSR was bad, but many others, but they love to hide the facts about it, same USSR did inside of the country - many facts were hidden. So when you hear something from GOV in your country, make a serious research about it.
Now it is funny that in Japan, the don't teach children that USA used nuclear bombs on Japan...it is crazy world.
What USA is teaching in schools, I can just guess, cause usually I believe, Americans not educated as Russian do for an example, you can simply avoid choosing History at school and here you go. Same in the UK I believe.
So then, policitians easily control the crowds and push them to frontlines, like it was in 9/11 for an example.

When Hitler invaded USSR in 1941 Churchill, a staunch anti-communist, made the following remark: “If Hitler invaded Hell, I would make at least a favorable reference to the Devil in the House of Commons”. Considering what the Soviet Union was doing to the Ukrainians during the 1920s and 1930s (Gulags, Great Terror, Holodomor etc.) the creation of the 14th Waffen-SS Division Galizien was Ukraine's "favourable reference to the Devil". Felton should or at least ought to understand this since it was his country that sold Czechoslovakia like a piece of meat to Hitler in 1938 and it was also his country that stood on the opposite side of Soviet Union from August 1939 to June 1941. At some point of that time the British even contemplated attacking Soviet Union (Operation Pike) for generously supplying their ally Nazi Germany with oil and raw materials. As for the symbols that seem to wee-wee Felton so much, well, it would be fair to point out that most of them originate from the Ukrainian Galician Army of the West Ukrainian National Republic (1918-1919) and therefore are not a part of Nazi regalia.

The mayor is quoted in a recent interview saying if he had the legal means to have it removed he would have done so "years ago". So one may judge this as a gap in legislation or simply private (albeit insulting) expression. I do know it has been defaced previously.
I loved 3:30 . There is a lot of finger pointing amongst the politicians, but all 338 MPs applauded. There is a basic flaw in the statement “they all applauded.” It keeps popping up on social media to spread the blame. The Speaker of the House invited Hunka. The Prime Minister’s Office endorsed the honour. The MPs who are not Liberal had no idea what was about to happen. They were not informed in advance. So, when told in the House in front of Zalenskyy that Hunka was a Ukrainian and Canadian war hero who deserved standing ovations that’s what he got. Few people noticed that the Speaker said he fought against the Soviets, and likely would not have known what that meant. It only became clear afterwards, as people who know military history pointed out that the unit Hunka served with was Waffen SS. We stopped teaching history in Canadian schools decades ago. This farce is the result.

To be… I never considered the Soviets in the same boat as the rest of the “Western” Allies of France, the UK and the US.
There was bad blood between them since the start of the Soviet Union.
The Soviets sold old art in secret to the US in order to get plans to build factories, again, in secret. The only thing they fought for is their own liberation, they didn’t do it to actually “Help” the western allies. But that’s my feeling, as someone who has a MA in Cultural History.
The only thing in MPs/Politicians minds is mostly to do what is popular, to get re-elected or, what is “seemingly” popular and gets them votes. In this case, looking good in front of Zelensky and helping Ukraine. By clapping like sheep they show their support. It’s pretty sad that no-one is able to think for themselves anymore.

Thanks for clarifying this - Canadians have suffered enough embarrassment without the revelation that there are public memorials to those animals too.
