Operating machinery is unbelievably satisfying. I grew up from the age of 11 driving the skidder and dragging logs out of the woods working for my dad. It was the most amazing amazing and wonderful thing to do. I still love you I’m 58.

I am a grader operator and got to say I love my job. I drove tractor trailer for 16 years and 5 years ago I made a change I thought about starting to haul oversized loads when an opportunity to get on our local DOT came up for plowing snow in the winter and took the challenge and it worked into me getting the equipment operator position here and I can honestly say I love my job there is days I miss the road but wouldn't even think about going back. Since coming here I've learned to run dump truck, backhoe, grader, loader, excavator, roller and the other day got to run a skid steer with a sweeper that is what makes this job so enjoyable you are always doing something different.

I was the crew lead for the excavation team at a fiberglass pool company. Absolutely loved the two skids I frequently towed along. One was an older bobcat, wheeled, but it was like a mini skid. Like imagine a skid with a full cab but it was the size of a dingo. Couldn't find a newer version, but it was nice because I could drive straight through a 3.5' gate without having to take the fence down and being so small the thing was a blast to rip around our storage property. The other skid was a Takeuchi Tl12v2. Complete opposite end of the spectrum. Thing was the largest skid we could get, still relatively compact even compared to the 18000 lb mini-ex. But this beast would cleara a dump trucks/ 20 tons worth of material in a few minutes with a fully sealed cab, a/c, bluetooth, enough roof to fit another person in the cab with me and my feet up.

Oh he'll yes. I am that 5 year old little boy with my Bulldozer. The only different thing is a farm tractor. They will beat the snot out of you. Working on a farm tractor for 12 hours a day will leave you very soar in the morning. FARMERS Earn every cent they make.

Ok the Volvo 150/180 loader is the best for loading lorries at the quarry, next a dozer with a pat blade your the boss in that kit 👍 finally a cat drot with that grab clamb it’s awesome for clearing up, oh forgot the long reach 360 👍👏👏👏, the most one that will bite you back is the drot particularly on a rubbish tip when covering with frag 🤤

Case controls are so much more precise and easy to use than cat controls. I'm only saying that because I have 30,000 hours experience and I've ran all of them. Bobcat foot controls are better than your left hand driving steer right hand bucket.

I know it doesn't really matter but skid steers have wheels, compact track loaders have tracks, but otherwise good stuff

I like the ones with the foot controls for the bucket. Once you get use to it, it just feels much smoother and even more relaxing.

I hate the foot controls, I feel like I can be much more accurate with my hands. It’s all just what you are used to I guess!

I agree. Foot controls feel so much nicer for me. I feel more fluid and like having 2 joysticks for drive

We have both kinds of skid steers and the foot pedals are horrible. The joy stick is so much easier.

I’m the opposite. We have 2 of the foot control ones here in our Air Force shop for clearing snow. It can be a real headache when you’re trying to drive and do the bucket at the same time. Unless you’re REALLY REALLY good at it and spend a lot of time in it, it’s usually slower than our joystick ones.
It makes no sense to put them on the floor really. Why you would use to analog controllers for driving is beyond me. That’s like 1950’s style technology.

@@Jay_Force_One it’s easy for me to drive and operate the bucket at the same time but it’s just an old design that’s uncomfortable and hurts my knees. We have an old John Deere machine.

i'm in the last two weeks of my project and I miss operating the equipment so bad!!! all that's left for me to do right now is pick up trash and seed the levees
However, today, and my foreman is going to train me on this piece of equipment, so I'm kind of excited for that :)

I can run machines all day and never get bored or tired. Something about becoming one with the machine is so relaxing, to me anyways! 😅 Good on you for teaching people how to operate machines, a lot of people don’t know and no one will take the time to show them. I taught myself how to run/operate everything because some old man told me “no one going to teach you just jump up there and fake it until you make it” that’s exactly what I did.

I’ve only driven a forklift (2.5 years). Which is okay mostly. But when your driving bunks of 16 footers at max height in the air, or through an 18ft gap, you gotta focus. Or if your loading up a truck and have to be careful about people and vehicles. Not relaxing, but fun.
