One explanation I read about the thing about Marty losing his cool when someone calls him chicken was that, once he'd returned to 1985, although he's initially floored by all the changes to 1985 he sees because of his actions in 1955, after a while the "ripple effect" catches up with him and he somehow merges with the version of Marty who grew up in this reality, where his parents are happy and successful and the family is more affluent. The Marty from this reality grew up with a father who was respected and looked up to, and who (from age 17 onwards) wasn't afraid to stand up to anyone who threatened those he loved. So maybe this Marty had some insecurities about living up to the expectations people had of him because of his father.
As for them living in the same house, I thought that was because in this reality, Doc had become a friend of the family in order to make sure that things happened the way they should so that Marty would still travel back to 1985 at the right time. So he (Doc) engineered things to get them to buy that same house and stay there until at least 1985, to minimise the risk that Marty might not be there and the trip to 1955 not happen.

That's a really great theory about Marty's insecurities, @mikenash7049. It makes sense that history could repeat itself in an unexpected way, so while George's situation is fixed, one butterfly consequence could be that Marty carries the Mcfly "slacker" (Principal Strickland's word, not ours) label.
Another viewer mentioned the theory about Doc driving the family dynamic to protect Marty's time travel adventure, and we really like that theory. It's definitely plausible and helps explain why Doc and Marty are besties as well.

i always thought that becasue they were better off, but still had the personality to like that house. but he was only mildly more affluent at this point. the house was just basically more clean and had a little extra money. when he gets back, george JUST had his novel published but not sold yet. so george was ABOUT to really become affluent and mayte they would leave the house a year or 2 later

fox was of course the right choice. they actaully wanted him from the beginning, but his schedule with family ties was in conflict with his schedule. but after the stoltz problem, family ties allowed him to do t, they re shot a lot, and marty worked bot things for a couple months getting like 1 hour of sleep a night or something crazy like that

We agree he was the right choice, and we're glad he made the movie. It wouldn't have been the same without him.
