Wow! This is THE best video I have seen on any kind of alcohol distillery science. Amazing. I knew alittle bit about Rum, but this answered the question of HOW the molasses is used to extract alcohol that leads to the final product in my glass. I love rum in the summertime. Great for mixing with juices. whisky is not as refreshing as rum.

9:00 You've got the plumbing backwards on the retorts. The incoming vapor pipe has to be below the liquid surface, and the outgoing pipe has to be above the surface. This is so the "latent heat of vaporization" aka energy in the steam can be transferred to the liquid to re-distill it, this doesn't happen without bubbling the vapor through the liquid. The way you have it shown the pressure would increase, like a pressure cooker, until either a pressure relief valve opened or all the liquid in the retort was pushed over without reboiling - aka puking. Same plumbing problem with the second retort. In this case the pressure would puke the liquid over to the condenser.
Side note, on top of the high wines retort, on the outside you show some rectification plates, but they aren't shown on the inside. Not a big deal, I think only one Jamaican distillery has rectification plates on top of a retort.
Otherwise, I'm quite impressed with your work for someone who obviously doesn't do this for a living you show a good capacity to do research and simply communicate complex subjects. Bravo!
BTW, feel free to hit me up if you need references for the above.

Hey, thank you very much for your tips.. I built the double retort still by taking some reference Images from hawaiian beverage guide but I just noticed that it is shown the right way, so I somehow got it mixed up.. damn.. :-D
It's a shame I didn't notice, but it shouldn't be too difficult to change.
I'm glad you like my work apart from that 🤙🏼

Hands down the perfect clip to learn and take part in how rum is made. You can only read so many books but never get to this level of visual understanding on how it all comes together in the process... unless you work at a rum distillery in the Caribbean!

thank you so much! Yes, I guess even the people working in a distillery don't have the possibility to cut away parts of their machines to have a look inside.. hooray for 3D software :-)
