I suppose this would be the 3rd episode in the “Big-Hole Conversion” series where I have my good friend Blake from Fly, Weld, Fab with me to help out. Kicking things off, Blake welded in some new material to replace the lower support on the passenger side cab corner and made it look easy. Then we installed the new cab corners from Truck Shrouds (truckshrouds.com) and finished the episode with sealing and hucking in the ring in the cab.

Another great video Mark! Please no chop on the Duke roof.
Mark, if you chop the Iron Duke cab, you'll ruin it!!
No Chop!
Leave the Duke as is! I hope you truly appreciate the skill level of your Friend! By no means am I an expert, but nice work!
Blake’s one of a kind👌
Thanks fellas
Personally, I wouldn't chop Duke , Mark.
Please, please don’t chop the Duke, there are so few cabovers left, I can see your thinking, but NO please keep him straight! Great content by the way! All the best from the UK 👏🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Blake comes across as a real nice guy and he is a master of metalwork. You are lucky to have him willing to help Mark. Im not saying you couldnt of done it yourself, but Blake really finessed that installation.
Yep, winter ain't over!
Chop the K100 cab? I'd say NO. A hard NO.
Blake sure knows his stuff, he is quite an asset to you.
Little by Little is coming along nicely!
No chop Kenworth got it right from the get go
Truck cabs are small enough at the best of times, why make it any tighter? Come up off my 378 seat every time I head west on the QEW out of TO and that's slowed down and little air under the seat. Skip the bubble windows too.
no chop please! great work Mark as always!
I know it's your Truck, Marc, but I don't care to see you hack up that Kenworth. As a kid, the CrackerBoxes were my favorite. Now I'm an Old Fart driver, I still appreciate them. Thanks for the great vid. Keep 'em rollin driver.
With the extended frame on the Duke, I’d leave the cab as it is because, IMHO, it will look goofy proportion wise. Your call in the end, take care!
If the duke was my truck I would not cut it, but it’s yours so more power to you
Blessings brother Iron Duke beautiful truck please do not chop your work is awesome thank you
Mornin Mark, LBL is really coming together, I really like what you are doing with the cab and I'm learning new things. The Duke project my vote is a definite "NO", I'm not sure why people that build projects seem to want to chop or lower it, I always believed that any vehicle was designed for a person to sit in comfort, then somebody comes along and wants to chops the top off so you have to sit with a kink in your neck or the want to lower it so that it's draggin it's guts on the ground, but that's just my opinion. The plane ride, Flying is good for some people but I've always said "no higher than a truck deck and deeper that potatoes. Have a great week my friend say hello to Mrs. Twin Stix for us.
About that chop,...no...but, whatever floats your boat. Your toys
Marc, i would go big cab conversion on the cab over, you have the chassis length, make it so you would want to sleep in it, with plenty of head room and light.
Never been a fan of chopped trucks, but it's yours not mine. Those corner braces are there more for holding the interior panels than stiffening the cab.
Meatloaf seems to have trouble crossing bridges😂 First in Black Dog, then in Blacktop…..both great shows!!👍
I've been watching since you were working out in the snow and cold. Can't wait for the paint , but lots of prep to do still. Awesome TIG welding.
Chopping Duke makes it look like a bullnose KW, without the bullnose.
Very true.
I think it would be fun to take a couple, three cab over bodies, make one really long body and put it on a pick up truck frame. One of a kind van that would have people turning heads.
please don't do that, leave the cabin as it is, it would be a shame to lose that beautiful cabover
No Chop! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
Been watching your channel since the 359 was sitting in the field been following that for a while as I just found my own gem (359 exhd) sitting in a ranchers barn and bought it from him looking forward to beginning the work on it as it has been my dream truck since I was a lil kid growing up to almost 50 years old and finally got one
Awesome 👏
The problem with chopping the roof is the a pillar will need to lay back, meaning that the door will need modification
I personally am not a big fan of chopped big rigs or even cars really. Their is the odd exception like cars from the 30's and 40's that are notched so they are super low. I think Kenworth got it right on the K one hunny. Plus with how long it is I think it will make it look too long or a bit goofy but this is all a matter of preference or option, so do what will make you happy. Chopping it will open a huge rabbit hole where you kind of have to go in a certain direction where you would want to airbag it and have huge rims and rubber bands for tires to make it all come together. On the port holes, I do like octagon shape of it instead of say a tear drop. I think it goes with the squareness of the body much better and looks like it could be a factory option instead of an after thought.
Man how nice is it to have a friend like Blake! Sheet metal looking good!
You gotta get Blake to join you in 'On The Hunt' episodes, fly you around to some hidden finds!
Have Blake over to help more often. The two sets of hands get way more work done. Don't chop the Duke, you'll be hitting the roof upholstery as you drive and getting in and out will be much less comfortable
Hey Mark - if you chop the Duke, you will be changing the spirit of the channel from old Truck restoration to customization. You do you as you will likely pick up more subscribers (and perhaps lose a few die hard classic restorers).
Chop chop chop. Drop that top. Be ONE OF WON
No chop and no windows please. Blake you are a natural teacher and Mark owes you a lot.
My pennies worth, don’t cut the KW. Nice 😊work on the pete
It’s almost sickening how easy a professional makes it look 😩 lol, definitely not easy though - great job.
LBL is really starting to take shape now, I bet you’re furious with yourself for not doing this from the beginning, but better late than never I guess!
I’m fairly sure Peterbilt Mike has recently installed some of those rivets on Smokey using an air hammer?
Regarding the Iron Duke, I personally appreciate the classic look to these old trucks, with a hint of modern. In my opinion it’d be a shame to chop it, but then it’s not my truck, so my opinion only counts for so much 🤷🏻♂️🤣
Not my truck, but I’d be worried about headroom after a chop. LBL is looking *clicks tongue* 👌 real nice
That's so funny you would have that fun little Guess the Movie at the end of this episode. I just happened to watch Roadie last month around Christmas. Yeah ! Meatloaf. What a bad Ass!
First off, Please don’t chop Duke, Second, U and Mrs. TwinSticks should go up in Blake’s plane ✈️
You should get Blake to make you a cool old school Twin Sticks Garage Metal sign with Neons for outside.
👍🤘👌
That would be heartbreaking too see that cab chopped down. It’s a beautiful thing as it is. you’re doing enough customisations on it please don’t chop the roof down. Good work on the Pete mate. nice seeing men doing things proper. Good luck good elf. Regards from south London England 🏴
NOT
That huck with a pin is called a monobolt. We use them all day at the peterbilt factory in Denton TX
and here's the voice of experience...
Don't cut your cab!
I've got a 5" roof chop on my '61 Pete.
I thought that it would be a fairly easy chop it and drop it ordeal. Straight down. Shouldn't be all that hard...right??
Boy was I WRONG!!
You've gotta section the roof, because as the roof comes down lower, it gets stretched out to accommodate the lean of the windshield. On a car, it's twice as bad because you've also got the inside lean of the 'B' pillars, so you have to cut and add a section to a car's roof in 2 different planes on a chop top. At least on your Kenworth it'd be a straight across cut and splice in a piece job.
But then, least we forget, you have to chop and re-attach not only the door opening frames, but the tops & sides of the doors themselves, and here again, you'll have to splice in a piece from the side of the door frame into the top section to match the new door opening. Don't forget, that as the chop comes down, the openings expand and the door's top gets wider.
On mine, I tend to seriously overbuild my stuff as I don't want nuthing breaking after I do all this damn work, so I put plates inside ALL my cut seams. I plated across my roof seams, (I actually ended up rebuilding my entire roof, from front to back), and made up heavy plates to go inside the door frames, so that I didn't hafta worry about the tops of my doors breaking off because the door got slammed too hard.
It's all done now, but it took me several years to get this all worked out and built correctly. (working nights and weekends on it.) Plus I had to learn to weld aluminum, as my entire truck is built from aluminum.
It 'does' look badd as all Hell, but would I ever do it again??
Not on your life!!
Go watch a few videos on guys chopping hot-rod tops. It'll give you (something) of an idea of just how much work is actually involved in the process. (but again, you're watching it edited, and just like with you hucking your cab back together...it takes SOOOOOOOO much longer then what you're seeing)
Enjoy watching your build! Keep it up man!
Wow that is simply impressive work on the cab and sleeper. Blake is an awesome fabricator and welder, you are lucky to have him!
Your buddy seems like a great guy….but anytime I hear (Kit) plane, I start to hear Country roads by John Denver 😳
hello Mark & it's is Randy and i like yours cool & Thanks Mark Friends Randy
Huge amount of work chopping the COE properly then refitting it with everything out of factory alignment. If you are determined, find a scrap cab as a donor to see what has to be done. Adopt Blake into your family. You will need him every step of the way. Bon chance, mon ami! 🇨🇦
Peterbilt Legendary Blue is 1 of the best colors ever imho
I would have to agree. A nice clean stockish looking 359 or 379 with all the chrome really grabs your eyes.
I would put a window in the duke but I wouldn’t chop it. Proportions would be all off. Do that to a little single screw tractor or something
Cab overs are already a pain to get in and move around. Leave it alone. I don't think it needs a little window either.
I miss the YEEAAAA in intro, Y must take it back!!!!!
My 359 door has buck rivets I think that’s what you’re looking at. They are either put on with the air hammer and bucking bar or they have a air powered pinch press to install the rivets.
Fantastic show! Great work Blake!
NO CHOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love the project its coming along real nice. At the point you are I would put a tilt steering column, air ride cab, and 389 mirror brakcets. Good luck ill be waiting for the next video.
Awesome work! I definitely like watching all of your work in these episodes. I do need to join in on your work on the Iron Duke “tribute” truck! A vote of sorts here….. I would most definitely NOT cut the Duke! Gordon Summerfield Florida. Wow that felt good! I have never committed like this before and I usually follow several UA-camrs in silence.
Add an aerodyne roof,no chop..but in the end,you do,what you want to do..
Very cool! I’ve always wondered how Huck bolts were done, I need one of those tools!
Hi Mark, well "Ask and ye shall receive"🙃enjoy the snow......What do I think about chopping the Duke, Oh yeah and why don't ya lower it to, good grief Charlie Brown, NO, or as in the movie "Mark chose poorly"😑
Blake is a heck of a fabricator. I've been following him since you introduced him to us. LBL is looking good with the new cab corners. Personally I wouldn't like a chop on the Duke, but it is your truck & your choice. Check out Howlin' Wolf Garage. He is chopping a 1950 Shoebox Ford. It might give you an idea of the work involved.
Keep the duke as is . Chopping it is going to look goofy looking on a cabover . A long hood is cool chopped
Don’t chop the Duke, already cool!
They are solid rivets . you smash them like they do for a hot steel rivet
If u cut the cabover am off from here ✌🏾
Great episode
next fender you should do yourself its a perfect spot for you to learn to Tig Weld. and believe me when you make it look as good as the other fender "which you will" you'll feel that...
Absolutely not , bad idea, Keep the truck original.
Little by little is coming along nicely.
Blake is a master at his craft and a good teacher awesome collaborations
Appreciate it
Hey Mark,,those rivets on the doors are an actual solid rivet that gets crimped with a air powered tool and a dolly on the backside.
I believe they are called buck rivets. Yes sir
Don’t do it mark me and that plane. Are the same age and I know what kind of shape I’m in. 😂😂😂😂
Back in the mid 2000s, there was a chopped K100 at some of the truck shows. It was blue in color. I took pics of it at either Louisville or Englishtown. I can't find my pics of it, but there must be plenty of pics of it out there on the interweb. Personally, I thought it looked pretty cool. I mention this because it would give a good idea what your truck might look like chopped.
I seen it also! Looked badass
CHOP IT brother I’m here for the entertainment, and well that speaks for itself
I would discourage lowering the roof of the cabover. A cabover derives its imposing look from its height and squareness. A lowered cabover would look like a squashed bug.
That said, I admire a good welder. I have the hardest time even seeing properly through welding glasses.
A big hole ring?
Ooo-err, Missus.
DON'T CHOP IT 😱
Good lord man.
It's a piece of history, preserve it and pass ot along. Nobody's saying don't mod it, but there are a million ways to do that which won't irreversibly butcher the thing. Keep as much of the originality as possible, and go tastefully period-correct on the mods.
Bubble windows were a great idea in my opinion, but the full-on 70s custom look is kinda my thing. I'm sure they aren't for everyone.
Just please don't do anything irreversible & ruin it for future owners.
Don’t chop the Duke! Or any Viscounts or Earls - ace work with Blake - top team!
Follow your heart but I say nay on the windows and the chop, imo.
I'm in the do not chop camp as well. It's a lot of work and think the cab proportions will be all off. Leave the cab as is and don't be a Bruce Wilson...Lol
Don’t chop
NO Chop on the Duke.
Only a fool would chop that .
No to the chop job. If you want to see out of a short windshield just have Blake make you one of those goofy looking drop visors that block 80% of your vision.
Chop it! Much better aerodynamics. Nice work.
OMG I'm beginning to think there's way more than Coors beer on tap around ol twin sticks garage? Damn Mark what's next? Fingerless gloves with velcro wrist straps and a chain drive wallet along with a leather vest and a Dew rag a tee shirt and don't forget the mom tattoo on your left upper arm? Your bout to loose a bunch of us!
for the door rivets they may have used a rivet shaver - used to use to use them on bus builds - pricey little bugger !
The rivets on the door are a hammered rivet, you use a air hammer with a tip you can get off any tool truck and you hold a flat piece of metal on the back and it squishes together. You can get the rivets from peterbuilt or kenworth.
I was in the window and glass industry for most of my working years.... Many times I went on a complaint and found the people had installed the window with the drain holes to the INSIDE of the home.....
Anti Seize - True Story: building a motor had to use some... End of the day, took my shoes off... and there was Anti Seize on the bottom of my socks, all over my pants.. inside my freezer, on the inside right rear tire of my truck... It took weeks to clean it all. The stuff comes from another dimension, and I believe it tries to get back there when you use it.
Wow LBL is looking great! As for the Duke, remember one thing, it’s your truck you do what makes you happy, no matter what everyone says!
No to chopping the K100. Not many left in good condition, best to preserve it. Just my opinion.
You have a replica truck don’t feel bad about the Duke . Chop that bad boy. Uaha you already stretched it so go all the way brother! Keep jamming man !
I personally would not chop it.
If you go to the trouble of doing that then it becomes an out and out show truck and every nut and bolt on the rig needs to be absolutely perfect from top to bottom or it could look a bit half done. That’s not a reflection on your work Mark but you know how much time and money those show trucks take.
Just my opinion 👍🇬🇧
Keep up the great work
& mark,just an f.y.i = don't fix what ain't broke😂!!
& if do chop it then goo all the way & convert it 2 a Bull- Nose / K.W= C.O.E
Chop duke... chop duke 😁
Something I learned only fairly recently.. when you tighten the chuck on your drill, turn it the opposite direction just barely and you will feel a click. The chuck is now locked and the drill bit won’t pull out. Also I’m not a fan of chopped cabovers but it’s your truck. Although if you chop the top it will definitely make the paint scheme difficult to balance out. Thanks for the video Sticks!
Lbl gonna be a solid unit
I wouldn't do a chop on the fact that the long frame and tall pipes would make a short cab look kind of funny But at the end of the day it's your truck I would add the windows and leave the height of the cab alone Just my personal opinion
They make little cap to go into the blind rivet that makes it look like a huck
