- My goal with this build is to give you as much insight and behind the scenes look at what's going into building the World's 1st Manual C8 Corvette Drift Car!
I've been working with Sand Cars Unlimited to custom make a shifter and their stuff is top quality! then we get into cutting, welding and fabricating the mounting points.
Thanks to everyone for following along as my team and I transform this flood damaged C8 Corvette into a full Formula Drift spec drift car!

Matt building a space ship out here 😮😮😮
How is this series not getting more views.
As a simple nut and bolt hobbyist mechanic that was insane to see the full fabrication! Awesome to see the amount of work something that you don’t think about takes, one day I will learn to fab a little bit!
You and your team killed Utah man! Just had to say that
Matt, since you have that cavity down below that you are only going to run lines through, you could engineer a drop-down solution for your shifter to put it at a height that makes it better for ergonomics and run the cables through the tunnel.
I love this series!
SILVER SHARPIES FOR DARK SURFACES! Build looks cool, subscribed.
That came out so sick
Countersunk rivnut plates and counter sink screws.
Looking good
I loved the idea of using the drill press to keep it straight.
Could you make some sort of T a handle or something you put on the chuck of your drill press to help spin it by hand?
A tip from a machinist, make a pointed pin that you can put into your drill press, clamp the piece down when you drill it so everything stays lined up, drill hole, swap drill it for the pointer and there should be a spot on the back of the tap to push the pointer on and you can still use a proper tap handle to wind it in easily(always use oil on alloy)
I love the!!! Thank You! I need more tips
Looks good
So friggin cool !! Thank you for taking your time to make this series !
@Matt Field You need to get a plasma table. Even a small one. Will change your life.
freaking brilliant to start the tap with the drill press. stealing that move for sure.
Thank you for the step by step video. Felt like the first Corvette chassis videos!
Can't wait to see the finished product
coming along dopppe cant wait to see a bigger wing and maybe so big square/rectangular side plates kinda like deans wing on the FD
This thing is sick!
awesome content coming out , keep them coming
Please have a centre exit exhaust.. it will look sick af
Fuckin loving this build and the content that you're putting out!! Keep it up and great job man!!🍻
Cool build! Can’t wait to see it going sideways 😁
Please please please center the exhaust thru the rear bumper where the license plate would go. My 2 cents, Maybe cut a large hole there for smoke to exit thru, add mesh and trim ring around a BIG oval tip.
Chevy Should sponsor this build!
When turning a chuck by hand like that use the chuck key to turn it. Just stick it in the hole and use it as a lever to turn it.
damn
Is there ever a concern of strength when cutting out a chunk and welding in a plate?
Through these channels you should pass the fuel lines.
AYYYYOOO. Relax. Tellin us about how hard it is and jerkin it. Smh.
Is this going to be new pro car?
I feel like a dct drift car would have been a lot cooler kinda like what drift hq did
Hence this build will not be that, plus there is a lot to be said for mechanical simplicity and proven parts in a race car.
Are you using cables from the shifter to the trans?
Yea just ordered them!
@@mattfield777 I make custom cables, so just curious
Hand brake. Shifter. What’s the third lever?
Reverse
Dude cut straight into the most structural integral part of the c8, if you hit something, your cage won’t save you that much.. I’ve seen it in newer videos
Ok so I commented before you thought you were finished with shifting base plate, go do some research brother, that is a very structural part of the car.
This is what happens when you rush something! The small details are what makes a good build.. and i have a C8 project myself, so I can definitely say something.
why in the fuck does that shifter have 2 selectors? is one for reverse?
