I am excited to have the Vive XR Elite, a new VR headset from HTC. This is an all in one system which means that a PC is NOT required. The headset itself has all the hardware built in to download and play games / apps directly. But this only applies to stuff that HTC have put onto their Viveport ecosystem.
However, what I really wanted to do was connect my Steam library and play my already owned collection of VR games wirelessly on my new headset. Fortunately, I am able to do so with some free software. This setup will allow me to stream any Steam VR title from my PC!
I hope this tutorial helps and please let me know if you have any questions, I will do my best to help.

HTC suggest using the Vive Streaming Hub on your PC rather than the Business app. The great advantage with this, is there is nothing to install on your headset! Here is the link:

Solid video. I would like to chime in and mention that having Steam VR Home environment on might be a performance hog. Especially when it's a PCVR streaming and not direct feed through display port cable. Many people have solved their performance issues with wireless Steam VR experience by switching Steam VR Home environment off.
Wow, interesting tip thanks. I have not had any real lag issues yet, but I have only tried streaming like right next to my wifi node. I will try disabling the Steam Home and see what sort of performance I can push from doing so.
Ive always used mine wirelessly 🤔 this 'needing' to be connected via LAN is new to me.
Of course the streaming tonthe headset will be much better if the PC were LAN but this interesting.
And no, I wasn't on beta software back then or up till yesterday. I am using the beta verson of the streaming app now and it still lets me use it (streaming and Internet).
I wonder if they say 'required' as a standard to help ensure the utmost quality?

I wonder how big the sweet spot is on this thing? Quest Pro sweet spot is basically edge to edge, but it does lack the panel resolution. What is the highest bit rate wirelessly?

I have gaming laptop and purely WiFi based network. Can I stream directly from laptop to headset, not thru router?
There is no way to bypass router at the moment that I know of.

Yeah, so.. FYI... the audio switches to the headset while we're trying to set this up. You talked for sooooo much when you could have just shown the clicking and made this a 20 second video since we coudln't hear you anyway.
Streaming VR looks complicated
Answer me this can I still hook up a wire to my pc like I would with valve index I'm a vrchat player I want to see avatars and my wifi is iffy so I'll like to use the cord
i just got my headset today, having a big trouble to set it up... does the USB A to USB C cable came with the headset works for this? i dont have any usb c port on my PC
Does the PC have to have certain requirements (RAM, processor, graphics)?

Hi, congratulations for the video, really well done. I just have one question.. how do you power the viewer in glasses mode connected via cable to the PC? the viewer requires at least 30W and the type C port of the PC does not deliver 30w.. any suggestions? thanks in advance.. top viewer
absolute garbage device. ive downloaded the vive software as well as the steamvr and the headset does not connect. Ive uninstalled both the vive streaming hub and the steamvr, reinstalled and its still not connecting. Also, peripheral vision is awful. I'm not sure if ive never noticed this, but left and right side(corners) of view reminds me of look through binoculars. Huge black spots on the left and right side of you field of view. I would not recommend this for vr gaming.

I did all the steps, downloaded vive business app (pc & headset), installed 1 VR game "Hyper Dash", opened steamVR, connected my laptop to the router through LAN cable "CAT6" (WiFi 6E) and connected my headset to the same router. run SteamVR & vive in the background and still cannot connect wirelessly 🤯🤯 !!! the only thing that works now is through USB cable to my headset to run SteamVR 😭 I also have KatWalk C2+ built and sitting idle
Sorry but this is very confusing. You seem to be using the focus 3 business software not the latest xr Elite streaming hub software. Also a completely different way to initiate SteamVR. Please explain, thanks
Great informative video pal. Subbed. I have come from original vive 7 years ago to this headset. I'm not bothered about wireless, but what cable do I need for wired pc use mate ? I just ordered the new alienware m18 4090 laptop and purchased this specifically to tether to it. Grateful for any feedback thank you.

I followed the instructions, but I have one problem. On the XR elite, Beatsaber has a pretty low frame rate, which causes input lag, making songs on expert+ nearly impossible to do. How do I fix that?
Hmm not sure. Beat Saber works okay for me, but I am only playing on Hard and Expert.

Is that cabled PC requirement hard wired (no pun) or a performance assessment? Seems like an odd restriction.
Probably because you would get double latency and both connections will be in eachother ways
Could you tell, please, how is the mic quality? Would appreciate it. HTC has a history of putting low quality mics into their VR headsets. And I feel cautious.
From a stream they did for the people that preordered, I can tell you it is a strong medium. It definitely won't rip the ears out of the people you talk to, but you most likely won't be record quality videos with it. You can be understood pretty easily, so it's not a "low latency but only enough quality to be barely understood for communication" mic.
