The ACTUAL THUG2 only allows for railflips and triple kick/heelflips just like in the remake. -Warehouse was actually remade first with THPS3 (did not know this, very cool!) While the sound in the new THPS definitely sounds better and more realistic, I've played THUG 2 for such an ungodly amount of time that the nostalgia inside of me won't let me enjoy any other ollie and grinding sounds as much.
I really love the new sounds. Especially the board clacking. They really nailed that clack when you land in the new game. And I was more of a fan of the original sound for it than in the THUG and THAW games.
True, that's a clear advantage that Underground 1 and 2 have, only other people in the maps in pro skater are drivers, the car movements are better in that but it was nice having pedestrians and random skaters doing lines.
Dude, i never understood why THAW got so much hate. It’s beyond amazing to me. Open world and the story was just as good as THUG1. They had Tony Alva for gods sake!!

its nice to hear a lot of the things added in later games are here. i was honestly scared they'd remove a bunch of necessary mechanics added in order to have that "true" pro skater 1+2 experience. like, those games are honestly rough to go back to considering how much was added over time. its nice they give the option in the menu though if you really dont want things added in the later games for some reason
nice "One foot tailgrab", enjoyed the video. Great review also, you went into the important stuff including gameplay and that Pivot/Manual situation. Cheers
Tasty Churro That was his point though. They knew the game wasn’t good. That company was forced to make THPS5 and he acknowledged it was bad and just a cash grab on Activision’s part.
The thing I love the most about your videos is that you actually take your time with the games and love the ones you play and compare. Keep them videos coming bro, love your content.
Ive been playing THPS games since the beginning on playstation... I love the fact that they have all the old characters from the original... im 42 years old and skated in the 80's and have been to major skate comps and watched these legends in person over the years.. San Jose CA , Carlsbad ,San Diego , Sacramento ect... I know Tony can Add more Characters to his game if he wanted .. I would love to play as some older forgot about skaters, who influenced me as well as him... Such Skaters as : Kevin Staab,Tony Alva, Mark "Gator" Rogowski, Christian Hosoi, Tommy Guerrero, Natas Kaupas, Jeff Kendall, Per Welinder, Rob Roskopp and of course Mike Mcgill just to name a few... Tony should give these forgotten a chance at some glory , from once this all started...
I used to play this game when I was 6 so I didn't knew the name. Now I saw your notification and immediately clicked you made me nostalgic. Thanks a lot Nick 😘
The sounds on Thps1 sound way better. They sound aggressive and real. Maybe a bit generic but they capture the essence of skateboarding much more accurately. The sounds for robomodo are crap, the old games weren't bad and the new ones sound like updated version of undergrounds sounds. Overall I think asking for the original sounds might be a bit much and considering vicarious is basically remaking the underground series despite the game being called 1+2 remake, theyre fitting. Appreciate all the work that you put into recording that!
Legit, having Wall Plants means ALOT to me. It tells me that they aren't just trying to stick to only the original games and looking at how the series actually did evolve and got better over time. Compared to the HD version where the updates were locked in the DLC levels, this doesn't aim to just be the original and nothing else: It feels like a celebration. And I love that.
Thanks for factual reviev, comaprison. I am happy to see somebody who digs into the came and compares them as they should be compared. I must say that for me first THPS and 2nd THPS sounded best, later they used some weird special effects and the sound was not so clear like in first two parts. The most current part sounds a bit dull, numb. Thank you for the video, really good content. Appreciated and gave it like , keep the good work up , Man : )
Superb video - thanks for all the research. You should definitely try to reach out to VV regarding the manual bail direction, which is very disorienting and seems more like an oversight rather than a technical decision!
Same height but in the first two games you character stopped and stay at the max height for half a second to a full second. In the remake you reach the height and go straight back down.
Nick: "I think they should fix the manual pivot balance issue" Me, who hasn't played one of these since THPS3: "You can pivot during a manual!?" Overall I really enjoyed the demo, looking forward to the full game. I see the points you make, even if some of them I was clearly clueless about; the first time I hit a walltap put a big ol' grin on my face, seeing just one of many "new" mechanics as part of this.
THPS 1+2 went way above my expectations, I waited until a few youtubers got their hands on the demo to buy it just in case it was another THPS 5 tragedy. But I am very happy with this one! Hopefully this will be a return for the Hawk-man!
Forget to mention Reverts. For the older crowd who started 20 years ago with THPS1 & 2, we now get to use Reverts in those levels for the 1st time (with the exception of Burnside, Roswell and Warehouse unlocked in THPS3). Reverts were 1st introduced in THPS3. Yes i understand these levels were also unlockable after Revert was implemented in later titles and of course the wildy popular PC gaming experience of THUGPRO. But not everyone who started with THPS1, 2, and possibly 2x, 3.. Went on to play the later titles like THUG1,2 or American Wasteland. I feel as if a, sort of, "later" generation got into THUG1,2. And that mightve been their 1st taste of a Tony Hawk game.
Man, I gotta say the sound design for 1+2 is phenomenal. The grinds sound much more realistic, the pop of the board and the impact of the landings, it all has this visceral punch to it that's just so satisfying to the ears. Heck even the wheels rolling on the ground just sounds so smooth and buttery. I know it might be silly to get excited about sound design, but for a game series like this it really makes a difference. The HD remake's sound design is practically not even there, you can barely hear anything. 1+2 is borderline ASMR.
Remember when Vicarious Visions were known pretty much as the studio that makes licensed games for the Gameboy Advance and DS? Damn, how far they've come!
I hope they get handed the reigns for TH games just dont make them annual releases. In fact I kinda like what Acti is doing giving its other devs franchises and not everyone getting involved in Call of Duty.
Soundtrack will feature MOST of the original songs from THPS1 & 2. But there are a few exceptions. To make up for this, there's a large number of brand new songs included as well.
Well, you know that Activision is bound to change some things. Granted, if Pro Skater 1 + 2 is anything to go by, remasters of Underground 1 + 2 would be relatively faithful.
Bro I never noticed how excessive those sparks are when you grind and now it’s the only thing I notice. Really hope they change that. We don’t need sparks at all.
The new one obviously looks and sounds the absolute best. Something that drives me crazy though is the heavier feeling gravity. I'll get used to it, but I hate that you can't actually make the gap over the halfpipe. In the older games it was also a lot more forgiving on the landing. I'd love to see them make an option for "less bails", because turning bails off completely is just lame, but it would be nice to have the slightly more forgiving option. For the other gameplay stuff it's hard to say, since I've never really used Tony Hawk as my character of choice, so maybe some of the oddities are because of using a different skater. Also I can't wait to finally be able to buy skill points... overall I am more than thrilled with the game though and have already spent far too long playing the demo.
The remake really makes me feel so good, I just love the fact that almost none of the physics are changed, and seeing warehouse being gorgeous really gets me pumped for the rest of the two games levels and scenery. I can’t wait to get my hands on my childhood once again
The stance thing is actually correct. Goofy and regular are referring to the preferred stance of the skater while regular and switch refer to whether the skater is in their preferred stance or not. It may be a bit confusing but it's totally accurate.
Vicarious Visions and Toys for bob are the saviours of remakes. Crash Trilogy and Spyro Reignited were both amazing and both Tony Hawk 1+2 and Crash 4 look great too.
I remember hearing they took the same code that neversoft took. I’m thinking they took it from a late THPS4 or an early THUG1. It’s walking, double tab grind, and more flatland away from being almost exactly like thug1
Great video, can you perform wall ride plants? This is a horizontal wallie jump, basically tap the D-pad twice away from the wall before ollieing off. This was available in Project 8 and Proving Ground.
I hope that Pro Skater 1 + 2 is well received and sells well, because I really want to see Underground 2 and American Wasteland get remastered on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Those were always my two favorite games in the Tony Hawk franchise growing up.
I'm worried about the gravity and speed. I said this when I first saw raw gameplay from when it was first announced. It looks like you move and pop slow, and the gravity is a bit heavy. You can't make it over the halfpipe. And yeah, I'm sure you'll be able to do it when you increase stats. But I'm worried of how that might affect certain challenges like gapping that huge vb transfer in Venice and the cash icons in the Bullring. Hopefully they changed the challenges up a bit to accommodate for it.
I mentioned this exact thing to Activision. Something certainly feels strange about the speed and gravity. The fact I couldn't break through the secret room while doing an identical line is pretty telling.
@@Nick930 I actually have a theory about why the physics are the way they are. If you go onto THPS 3 and match Tony's stats and play the Warehouse, it plays closer to that than the first two games
Let me just say that the underground games had such a vibe to them, like they truly feel like a timepiece of the mid millennium, almost like classic iPods and black eyed peas, or like watching music videos on mtv or like Viva la bam. This remake will be the best of making the skate game world feel more intimate to skating and a more earthy experience overall
Underground 1 and 2 also individually had a bigger soundtrack than the remake of THPS 1+2, I'm not talking about the quality of both soundtracks because they're both phenomenal, but I always liked the variety, not hearing the same song too often, I mean there are still some songs in Underground's playlist that I haven't actually heard in-game yet, despite playing it for so long, it's like a massive library of music.
Vicarious Visions are a great group that really take care, hopefully Activision doesn't impart too much bullshittery in terms of monetization and content carving.
I don't know how others feel but Underground 1 and 2 have been my absolute favorites. I pre-ordered for nostalgia but a little sad more wasn't added from the Underground Series
Dang I've never been too familiar with the series but I played a ton of the first one on the N64 so I instantly recognized the first level lol. Might buy the new one now... Great video as always!
The game looks awesome! To be fair, to the moves that are missing, they appeared in underground, not in the original pro skater 1 and 2 so I’m glad we’re at least able to do some
Hey Nick, I was wondering if you are able to continue a combo doing an ollie after a revert as opposed to a manual after revert when you’re coming down on a ramp. It really sucks that they removed this in the Robomodo era games and it really messed up the flow for me, so if you can answer that I would greatly appreciate it.
You can absolutely do that as well. I immedietly turned off the 2 new tracks in the demo. No offense intended other artists.. but my tony hawk soundtrack memories are sacred lol. (4 songs are in the demo, 2 of which are goldfingers superman and rages against the machines guerilla radio)
Nice, looks like me and many others will be able to have an authentic experience that is as close as possible to THPS 1 and 2 in terms of soundtracks and maybe the new tracks could be good enough to possibly add to my playlist ingame in the future but when I boot it up for the first time its gonna og tracks for the nostalgia. Thanks for answering my questions I really appreciate it, also really great and informative vid man, hope you eventually do a full comparison of all levels after the game releases. Cheers!
I’m glad that Vicarious Visions went with their VCR rewind when bailing. I hated waiting a million years to get my board back regardless of how realistic it looked. I don’t see how it would be out of place. Warehouse being made with THPS3 first was good on their part. I had a feeling they used that game for the rebuild. Warehouse is my top 3 favorite levels. I love the demo and like that it is daytime. I can’t wait to play this game upon release. All the grinds are fine to me as well. The remake sounds better for the sound design too, more real tones, tings, sound bouncing from grinds and other noises.
This is the game I'm most excited about for this year, I'm hoping if this does well they will remake THUG 1+2 then those for game would be the holy grail of skating games for me. Then we need matt Hoffman Pro bmx 👍
Great video, but I think you are a bit confused about the stance indicator, tgat I woukd like to help clarify. Or at least I believe I can help clarify. That indicator is stating when the skater is in their "regular" stance and identifies the trick, i.e. a regular kick flip. Switch, is informing you the skater is in switch stance, i.e. a switch kick flip. A regular footed skater that skates switch wouldnt be called a goofy footed kick flip. I believe this was the confusion you had, but if not, I apologize for wasting your time. Again, great video. I appreciate your detail.

Thank you excellent video sir
Game looks great waiting for a remake of downhill domination next.
boi that game was a blast😃😃
I fucking loved that game so much.
@@Infinintia you said it bud
I really hope this game sells well. This game could pave the way to a new, completely original Tony Hawk game, or a fresh sequel to a classic.
I honesty never noticed the blood in Tony Hawk
Vicarious Visions and Toys for bob are the saviours of remakes. Crash Trilogy and Spyro Reignited were both amazing and both Tony Hawk 1+2 and Crash 4 look great too.
I remember hearing they took the same code that neversoft took. I’m thinking they took it from a late THPS4 or an early THUG1. It’s walking, double tab grind, and more flatland away from being almost exactly like thug1
All I hear when he’s in the rail in this game is somebody with a fork scratching a plate intensely
Love that OG bail sound haha it's ingrained in my memory. After seeing this compared to hd I'm a lot more excited
Great video, can you perform wall ride plants? This is a horizontal wallie jump, basically tap the D-pad twice away from the wall before ollieing off. This was available in Project 8 and Proving Ground.
That's fast af...
Nick you're fast at doing your homework aren't ya ?
If you go onto THPS 3 and match Tony's stats and play the Warehouse, it plays closer to that than the first two games
when you're goofy and you ride, you do ride regular (in this case meaning not switch), doesn't mean you're regular footed
The Original game Released on September 29th 1999, the Remake Releases on September 4th 2020. a little over 20 years ago. damn i feel old!
I prefer the classic sounds but the rest of the game looks really promising!
THUG2 had the best sound to me, but it is also the one that holds the most nostalgia for me.
I wish they have an option to turn on blood when you fall. I used to love seeing the blood skids when you fell lol
Underground 1 and 2 also individually had a bigger soundtrack than the remake of THPS 1+2, I'm not talking about the quality of both soundtracks because they're both phenomenal, but I always liked the variety, not hearing the same song too often, I mean there are still some songs in Underground's playlist that I haven't actually heard in-game yet, despite playing it for so long, it's like a massive library of music.
nice touch that as the demo they have given us the same stage that was also on PSOM disc.
I’m actually really happy that they got to remake Tony hawk one and two great for the series I feel like I got Part of my childhood back
Dang I've never been too familiar with the series but I played a ton of the first one on the N64 so I instantly recognized the first level lol. Might buy the new one now... Great video as always!
The game looks awesome! To be fair, to the moves that are missing, they appeared in underground, not in the original pro skater 1 and 2 so I’m glad we’re at least able to do some
Please make a new video when this game comes out to compare all versions of each game (like THAW)
We've come a long way since proskater 1
Hey Nick, I was wondering if you are able to continue a combo doing an ollie after a revert as opposed to a manual after revert when you’re coming down on a ramp.
It really sucks that they removed this in the Robomodo era games and it really messed up the flow for me, so if you can answer that I would greatly appreciate it.
Sure thing, ill boot up the game and check for you right now - gimme a sec
Can confirm. You absolutely CAN ollie off a revert. The combo string even said "method + revert + variable kickflip"
Hope this helps! :)
That’s great news to hear! I’m also wondering if there’s a menu where you can turn on and off certain tracks in the soundtrack.
Cheers!
I didn’t realize the game is right around the corner
Hope they keep the easter eggs and that this sells so well that we'll get all of the games remade in hd.

Waiting for Underground 1 & 2 remastered!
