Uses of a 1931 Ford Model A Pickup - Still Trucking Along Strong!

- At age 92 and a half, like his slightly younger 87-year-old 1931 Model A Ford pickup, my Dad, By Wingett, is still trucking along strong! What an amazing, memorable ride this was with my father. And Shadow loved it too!

Old man looks like his limbs are stiff as a board, but he shifts those old gears with out even a clack.
Really Mr. Randian Winn. I am in the same situation.
I mean I work with a guy(volunteer but same difference) who is literally 93, so slightly older than this man, on a ww2 ship, and if you know military ships that are very tight and hard to traverse, steep steps and such he mainly paints but he still has to go up and down several flights of very steep steps and such
@Randian Winn hyaluronic acid injection.
@ASG66 what?
Maybe some weed would help
Seeing the old man with his old truck and old dog is so heart warming.
It really is.
Ya it is
ol man's probably kicked the bucket by now.
In cloudy weather as well.
I want to be that fit when I'm 93
I want to be at least that fit at 30
Take your vitamins Marty
I want my Toyota TRUCK to be that fit when it's 93! Wish it luck LOL
I just love this little video, just a dad and a son having fun riding in an old ford pickup. While the dad showcases the son films. I love it.
Me too.
Loved it
Hehehe I like how NONE of the gear changes made grinding noises despite lack of synchromesh on gears :)
Practice makes perfect?
To be fair shifting old unsynchronised gearboxes isn't too hard, you can get pretty good at it within a week or two.
@@GlamStacheessnostalgialounge You haven't seen people struggle with a manual synchronous transmission recently have you :) ?
@@andrewallen9993 Well I'm in europe so we still see 80% of cars with manual transmissions. Besides for some reason modern manuals are a lot more difficult to shift than my 30 year old 5 speed.
You can shift any car without the clutch if you rev match well, guess its not too different than driving without synchros, probably harder even but it gives you an idea.
@@VeyronBDQ: How do you change into first or reverse when standing still?
A: with the engine off, then move the car with the starter motor till the car is moving and the engine started :)
what a great old truck. Now that I would park in my driveway proudly.
It’s be a very nice yard ornament
Kenny Rogers Yard ornament? Thing looks like it still works to me
I loved it when you said that a truck is a truck. No matter how old the truck is it can still be used as a work truck. That made me really happy that this model a is being used for work all this time later.
Hey Tyler, thanks for your comment!
Nice truck. Wanted one near to it since the 70s when I was a kid watching The Waltons.
God bless making memories , thanks for sharing , my father has been gone since 1988 still miss him
I'm sorry
What a great life you have! Your 92 yo. dad, your 10.5 yo old and that almost 90 yo Model A! Thank you for sharing this slice of the simple things that make life so good in this land of ours!
I thought you were going to say the dog is in his 90s too. 😳
I love it when people use old items like how they're meant to!
There's nothing better than having a cool dad and a cool truck!
The Model A was just a beautiful little car. If I ever get the money, my dream car is (and will always be) a Model A Fordor Sedan
It is a beautiful pick up, but I wouldn't drive one daily around where I live. I have an older vehicle and it handles well for its age, but I was driving the other day an a Porsche Cayenne wouldn't stop stalking me. I couldn't outrun it, or outcorner, or brake it. It's not even close to as safe either. Every time I drive it I think, yeh I would love to drive this everyday, but I would probably come close to dying many times due to other people on the road.
Most people don’t like fords but I do
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Damn , your dads doing good for 92!
In 1959 I learned how to drive in a 1931 Model A Ford pickup at Treadwell Boats and Motors, an on the water marina in Algonquin, IL I was 14. We used that old truck to move boats on trailers around the yard and on Saturday and Sunday mornings to empty the garbage cans from the picnic ground. I learned to shift it without grinding the gears and on more than one occasion, start it by pushing it and popping the clutch. It also was green.... Thanks for the ride along, it brought back great memories !
love the sound of that little flat head, and the view over the hood, shore miss cars with real hoods.
This truck is as old as my grandpa, first renovation was made when my father was crawling and the newest dust and rust is as old as me. That's a sensation I want to behold
My grandad was a gardner and had a '64 Dodge pickup. He worked until he was 98 and only stopped because he became a menace on the roads.
what do you mean menace? like road rage?
@@Ihateironyanddumbusernames I think he means he couldn't drive at that age anymore and became dangerous with a 2 tonne heavy weapon
@@fennograas more like 3 unless the old trucks are lighter because my 2010 Titan has an empty weight of around 5500 pounds and a max GVWR of 7200
@@bryanmartinez6600 could be but old cars are actually very light even though they're made out of metal because they don't have airbags or any safety stuff so I don't know exactly but 3 tonnes is a lot of weight for a truck
@@fennograas 3 tons is normal, the truck itself probably weighs 5000 pounds plus several hundred pounds of tools and equipment and the driver itself
I absolutely love everything about this video. You are so blessed to have your dad not only with you but in great shape.
Ford engineers wouldn't have a clue on how to build one of those trucks today.
They could but good luck if you crash or need to pass regulatory requirements or want a smooth ride, or want to go fast, or want AC, or ...
That's because they are to busy building Raptors.
@Sean Fitzpatrick Lol reliable? This truck will guarantee your death from a simple 25 mph crash.
A Ford engineer could easily design one of those, but again if you built one like that today it would weigh nearly twice as much as your average modern pickup such an an F150. Plastic is used to reduce weight and bring fuel economy up.
@@sirena7116 we'll see if we see those raptors still running in 10 yrs lol
Great video! A senior citizen, his faithful dog, and a vintage Model A truck! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure. Thank you for your comment!
Nice ole truck.....glad to see the senior enjoying it at his age....great video....
Oh my word, what a gorgeous truck.
I didn't know there were any Norwegian elk-hounds in the US. She seems like a sweet and well behaved old lady.
I though she 2.5 yo
Theres lots of Scandinavian influences in the PNW, the whole Puget Sound area was basically settled by them, so im not surprised. My Great Grandparents were from Trondheim and settled in Seattle and theres a 'Sons of Norway' lodge half a mile from where I live. Again, not surprised.
Dough Kerman That’s a Keeshond!
@@craigjorgensen4637 no it's not
@@craigjorgensen4637 Nope, that is a Norsk elghund/Norwegian elk hound.
00:17 i love this sound... what a great old truck!
What a beautiful pickup. I would love to have one of these one day.
That's definitely a beautiful Ford.
I love your rides and laughing with your Dad! It brings back memories I spent with my Dad with old cars and sharing laughs we enjoyed together! It is very touching watching Father, son and pooch together enjoying one another! Thanks for sharing!
I really enjoyed that video. Thanks ! I also have an old Ford pickup that I restored myself. My german sheperd used to ride with me, but he has been gone 13 yrs now. Anyway, I keep on truckin...in my 1954 Ford.
That is a beautiful truck with a very beautiful Shadow :)
Your dad's truck is amazing. Thanks for sharing! ⚡👏🏻⚡Someday I'd like to be driving one.
A good son being a great son. Thank You
Lovely video. Thanks for the ride!
Beautiful old car! And in such a fine condition. Thank you for showing it.
Wow! God bless your dad, and his truck. Oh, and as his sticker says...God Bless America.
I like hearing the sounds of the shifting, the motor and transmission. Vehicles are so quiet today it's easy to fall asleep at the wheel.
Beautiful story. Man...dog...Model A. A great memory.
This is awesome! I dream to be at the age of your dad exactly the same, with health, owner of this kind of pickup and leaving in a small town like this! All the best to you guys.
Thanks for keeping that old thing going. And the truck too!
Love from India for grand father and his beautiful truck
What a sight, Man his dog, and a magnificent machine,it doesn't come much better.keep on TRUCKING.
Approaching that age where I will be faced with the decision to give up my automobile driving privileges... I keep projecting that in my mind into the future decade. Your Pop is a good encouragement.
im going to have give this a million thumbs up. now i want one of these trucks. and i wish my dad was still around to drive it. god bless you guys and shadow.
Really gorgeous truck. My all time favorite "Old Truck." Thanks for posting.
What a cute ol dog and clean ol truck
I used to take business trips to LaConner which is not far from Anacortes. It was nice seeing the Islands again from the dash of a beautifully restored A.
Here's a tip, when you close the tailgate, insert the pointy end of the chain's hook from below the hole in the latch rather than from above. In this way the hook is much more resistant to popping out over bumps.
Thank you. I was gonna say the same.
This was GREAT to watch!!! I just love to see how well your Dad is doing! This is great, keep it up! Tell him this is amazing & I love his Model A!! :-)
So stunning,oldies are the Goodies!🐾♥️🐾♥️🐾♥️☘😊
Wonderful video. Thanks guys for sharing.
I love Model As, both cars and trucks. They have such character. I used to live in a community where I knew a guy who drove his Model A every day . This was about 15 years ago.
Good video. Love the truck. Fair play to your dad over 92 years old. God bless. From tom northern Ireland
I have a 1929 Phaeton. I like old cars. Greetings from Brazil, Mr. Randall Wingett.
Great old truck! Thanks for the "Ride along!'
Loved every single thing in the video
specially the beautiful truck.
Ford built a real winner with that Pickup version. Very good looking & incredibly practical,
as truck, as driver, they have been holding strong for all these years!
Awesome truck and. Owner
Thank you gentlemen for taking us on a ride with you! Very enjoyable. And the dog is simply cute :)
I really enjoyed the ride along. Thank you.
My father is 87. He has a '37 Chevrolet 5 window.....all original. It's the same colors as that truck.
beautiful car, lovely dad god bless you all and your beautiful seal 3:46
i find it amazing that your dad is driving a model A at his age
wish him loads of health for many years
Great Dad, Great Car, Great dog.
Usually I don't enjoy watching videos on old vehicles, but for some reason i really liked this truck. It's Beautiful! I would love to ride/drive the thing. Very nice.
Thanks! Stop by for a ride!
WOW ! This is the best Model A truck I ever seen ! Fantastic job
Two absolute treasures. Your dad and the truck. I wish I had the same experiences with my dad. Enjoy his company every chance you get.
Loved the video! Nice old gentleman . Nice old truck. You can tell he dove that truck for years.
This is just awesome! I am a spring chicken at just 55 but just purchased a 1931 Model A Roadster Pickup. I love taking it out for errands and showing it to people who have never seen such a vehicle. I just wish my dad was still around to enjoy it with me. Cherish those moments while you can!
Beautiful truck
God bless you sir and your Dad
great shots on driving and local sights
My very first vehicle in high school was a 1930 Model A pickup! But it was a bit of a hybrid! Only thing Model A was the body and the frame side rails! It had 1940 Ford running gear and "X" frame, including 1940 steering column and wheel, 16 inch wire spoke wheels and hydraulic brakes. The engine was a'53 Flathead V-8 with a 4 speed transmission and dual exhausts. On the outside it looked stock 1930 Model A. The hydraulic brakes were a blessing because people often pulled out in front of me thinking it was a 45 MPH Model A coming down the road when in fact it was going 70! Had a lot of fun with it. Sold it my senior year to buy a bigger, heavier pickup to tow a horse trailer
Thanks for the ride.. it was a pleasure.
"hey shadow, hello!"
MY HEART
That sound is so good and healthy.Like it sounds like if this was a brand new car.I hope it will run +90 years :)
Thanks for bringing the viewers along I have never ridden in a Model A before. I know it is not the same, but I will take what I can get.
I just love the sound of those old cars, trucks😁
Hat off for your 92 year old father and his Model A truck, i enjoyed every single seconds of this video.
Hell, I would drive that old Model A every day to work! When's it nice!
Thanks for the ride-along, Sir(s) ! What FUN we all had !! I`d take BESSIE over the new Super Vette, anyday...It`s all about HISTORY & CHARACTER. She has it in spades---a (real) head-turner ! Please thank your dad for keeping her in such fine, "working condition" for all these years. WELL DONE !
Cute dog, beautiful Lake and Neighborhood and of course great car !
That old truck is rare to find and can run perfectly without broke any part. I like that truck
Thank you for such a wonderful video . I hope that one day I can purchase a model A truck and take my kids for a ride.
So sweet of all of you 😍! Without doubt , there is lot of love shared amonst you ! Wish your dad a heathly life !
This is amazing, the truck is ticking like a swiss watch! So smooth and my word, your dad at 92+yrs driving still???? and driving a Ford model A pickup, hats off!!
I love the look of old cars like this one.
A simpler vehicle from simpler times... I have memories from my auto mechanic days having helped rebuild an engine from a model A coup for our towns mayor.
This was wonderful. I want one of those Model A Trucks. I'm gonna get one, too.
Glad the truck is actually being used instead of sitting around doing nothing like many people seem to do with old vehicles
Oh wow, I am so glad I found this, had me a grin on my face the whole time.
super ... And I like the old radio's as I'm collecting and repairing those also.
A couple of old timers! :) thanx for sharing.
When this guys ford lasts longer than your chevy 😂😂😂
*Restored 15 years ago*
Those vehicles were made right and had time put into them. Nothing like today’s cars and trucks. This will still be on the road in 2075
Just because it's on the road doesn't mean it's orginal and these 1st mass produced automobiles WERE NOT DESIGNED for what we need it to today. Every single truck made after this one just about is better in everyway. We beat modern cars way harder look how fast people on thr interstate in a cude lol. Gtfo
👍🏻🖕🏻
Hell, that ford out lived most fords
Great video, great truck, great relationship and great dog!
My wife’s family is very wealthy.
Her father passed away 7 years at the age of 88 and left the five kids 28 Model A Ford cars and trucks.
My wife is the youngest of the kids and also the favorite so her father gave her the 6 most valuable cars in his collection. I was hoping he would give her at least 1 of the 4 pickup trucks but he didn’t. All the cars were switched over to 12 volts many years ago and of course they all run perfectly. It’s cool to see and feel how people lived back in the old days. By the way, Shadow is a lucky dog to have a master that can still get around at 92. I don’t think I’ll make it that long but I’ll take good care of myself right now just in case I do. 👍
Y’know, I’d like to think that this would be me in 60 years with my 2014 F150 but we’ll see 😂
It won't last
You'll be lucky to get 6 years out of a modern Ford. Forget 60.
You drive your truck too much. Only way anything lasts this long is if it’s garage queened
In pretty damn good shape for 92
Beautiful truck. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Wow that was amazing glad you are still having fun with your Dad.
This is a great video! Your Dad is doing fantastic and I can tell that you enjoy spending time with him. Eric
What a Great thing to see this is a historic truck.
