Marty Stratton directed this game. I remember his treatment of Mick Gordon last time, and Trent Reznor dropped off as the composer, citing problems with the project runners as part of the reason for that. I won't spend a nickel on it for that reason alone.
I know we all loved Mick Gordon, but we need to give iD Software the benefit of the doubt, they are one of the best developers in current times. DOOM has to continue either way and this looks incredibly badass.

You spend the entire game wondering who could possibly be a threat to Doomguy, when you find dead titans with lore that basically says he killed this thing on the way to kill the real problem. And the Dark One is an evil Doomguy from another universe. The only thing that could possibly hurt him. The ONLY thing to fear is YOU.
You were close, but here's my paraphrasing of the actual lore (Get comfortable, and optionally get some food and drink, this is gonna be a long-ass reply, and I won't be including a TL;DR anywhere): Davoth was the original slayer, the creator of all realms, and the strongest demon in all of existence. He's basically Khorne from 40k (from what little I know about 40k) but an all-creator deity with literal God-tier abilities Davoth MADE *_THE DOOM SLAYER_* in his OWN image, to act as the living embodiment and surrogate of his rage and vengeance against The Father and The Makyrs. He did this because he was so incredibly blinded by his own rage and vengeance for The Father sealing him and his people off from all the other realms, that he wanted to destroy the Makyrs, no matter the cost, and didn't give the slightest of fucks about his minions getting FUBAR'ed constantly by The Slayer, as well as the subsequent event that he had long foreseen where after The Slayer kills The Father for good, he then hunts him down and fights him in a mortal 1v1. He was T H A T committed to his crusade of vengeance against the Makyrs. He was so blinded by his rage and vengeance against The Father for D A R I N G to seal Hell off from all other realms, that he created and enacted an entire master plan to allow him to seize control of Urdak and the Makyrs, kill The Father, and achieve his ultimate revenge indirectly, all via his unwitting surrogate of uncanny resemblance, The DOOM Slayer… but simply didn't give a fat rat's ass about the Slayer hunting him down and fighting him, because he was completely resigned from the consequences of his actions, whatever they will be. My personal head canon is that he ultimately wanted what the Slayer also wanted: to fight someone truly equal to them one-one-one to the death for the first time ever, the first time that a fight will *_ever_* be a legitimate challenge to him, and ultimately kill them. Ultimately, The DOOM Slayer lived up to his name by slaying the Harbinger of DOOM, resulting in the immediate complete and utter cease of Hell and Urdak as threats to the multiverse, the Slayer losing his divine strength, returning to simply being the DOOM Marine, and being sealed away forever in a coffin, never to be seen or heard from again. The source for ALL of this information: I read every single collectable piece of lore in the entirety of DOOM Eternal and all of its DLCs. My fingers hurt, I'm gonna stop typing now. Because back then he really was just a human guard on the research of opening portals on Mars, he just got caught in the mess that ended opening portals directly to hell. Yes, looking back on what he done even there he showed many superhuman feats but the flashbacks to when he was caught by the Sentinels showed that he was still mostly human, he was fatigued and wounded, and the Sentinel guards had to beat him up to capture him there, even the UAC researcher notes in eternal said they managed to get blood samples (so he CAN bleed, possibly can still really die and get hurt by the stronger and large hordes of demons he is not ultimately invencible no matter what) and prove that he was human afterall, even if heavily mutated by the argent and Maykr tech with the divinity machine. Up until then, he was still pretty much just human… albeit one of the strongest, fastest humans. Once he was imbued with power by the divinity machine, he pretty much just became a human with divine strength, speed, and stamina. Although both Davoth and The DOOM Slayer are the most powerful beings in DOOM canon, neither are truly invincible. Both The DOOM Slayer and Davoth have limitless stamina, and enormous divine strength and speed… that's what makes them so powerful. Neither are even close to invincible, that's why you have a health and armor bar… though honestly that could just as likely be The DOOM Slayer nerfing himself on purpose to make fights more fun. My theory is that Davoth can both create AND destroy using his divine power, whereas the DOOM Slayer can only destroy with his divine power. The DOOM Slayer always holds back, otherwise fights would be trivial, over almost immediately, and would figuratively bore The DOOM Slayer to death. Although in-lore The DOOM Slayer is much much faster after the Divinity Machine, he's technically slower in-game than DOOM 1 and 2… this is purely for gameplay reasons. The same gameplay reasons for why in Sonic games you never *_literally_* run at the speed of sound, or even supersonic or hypersonic speeds: it's unplayable for all humans. Our brains, eyes, and fingers are incapable of processing and moving at the speeds necessary to be able to keep up with that insane level of speed. (Okay, the eyes and brain can SOMETIMES approach processing things that fast when the body is practically E X P L O D I N G with adrenaline, but apart from that, absolutely not.) Edit: I just remembered that fighter pilots exist… god I can be dumb sometimes. Alright, STRICTLY USING A MOUSE AND KEYBOARD OR CONTROLLER, any and all human fingers literally cannot move that fast. Disregard the part about "ALL humans" earlier though… fighter pilots are legendary. /Edit Hell, the *_E N T I R E_* reason that the DOOM Slayer holds back so much is for gameplay reasons. As for the retcon… yeah that happened. He went from being an extraordinary (but still entirely human) space marine to always having been an incarnation of Satan, who is also God, but just as an ordinary human at first. That never did really sit right with me, but canon's canon, so it's the way it is.
@@ianrager Hell wasnt hell initially it was some other place that became hell when it was sealed off by the father and Davoth's rage changed the entire dimension itself. "Hell" before it was known as hell was the first place in existence. And if i recall it was the Divinity Machine that elevated The Doom Marine to The Doom Slayer. That was when The Slayer truly became beyond gods and could destroy anything and anyone. Been a while since i played but i still remember some of these things.
@@_oracledon't worry, he might be the pioneer of the genre, but he's definitely not "the one and only". Check out Atomic Heart OST for example. Until it was released, everyone thought that Mick has created all those boss battle bangers. It turned out he did just two, I think the devs just wanted his name on the box. Others were composed by GeoffPlaysGuitar, and his style is indistinguishable from Gordon's.

It's... It's not the medieval ages... It was never the medieval ages... The Sentinel culture has them upgrading old weapons, which is why they use high tech medieval looking weaponry, like swords and crossbows. This is literally told to us in King Novik's codex entry in Doom Eternal...
Well the sentinels are still medieval themed heavily with all their knight armors, spears, swords, ballistas, castles, etc. And that was the goal here.

The low key secret here is that they stepped somethings DOWN. Making the Doomslayer less of a Flying death-raining machine, giving him a slow resolute walk you can REALLY hone in the Head-bashing demon-mowing tank vibe.
Playing through the game as doomguy in the new game is the equivalent of playing through the entire DS3 game as the soul of cinder, literally the only thing they fear is YOU.
And then there’s the gun that literally grinds skulls as its source of ammo, that is unironically metal as fuck

Yes, looking back on what he done even there he showed many superhuman feats but the flashbacks to when he was caught by the Sentinels showed that he was still mostly human, he was fatigued and wounded, and the Sentinel guards had to beat him up to capture him there, even the UAC researcher notes in eternal said they managed to get blood samples (so he CAN bleed, possibly can still really die and get hurt by the stronger and large hordes of demons he is not ultimately invencible no matter what) and prove that he was human afterall, even if heavily mutated by the argent and Maykr tech with the divinity machine. But if he was always basically the Avatar or the original creator God, wtf was he doing on earth being just a randon ass guard living supposedly a regular life and with the distinct love for a pet bunny which the demons killed and its what started this whole crusade?
I like the original lore and gameplay and care nothing for these remakes.@@unkindled6410

Okay, so The DOOM Slayer only gained that divine power once he was imbued with it by the divinity machine. Up until then, he was still pretty much just human… albeit one of the strongest, fastest humans.
Once he was imbued with power by the divinity machine, he pretty much just became a human with divine strength, speed, and stamina.
Although both Davoth and The DOOM Slayer are the most powerful beings in DOOM canon, neither are truly invincible.
Both The DOOM Slayer and Davoth have limitless stamina, and enormous divine strength and speed… that's what makes them so powerful.
Neither are even close to invincible, that's why you have a health and armor bar… though honestly that could just as likely be The DOOM Slayer nerfing himself on purpose to make fights more fun.
My theory is that Davoth can both create AND destroy using his divine power, whereas the DOOM Slayer can only destroy with his divine power.
The DOOM Slayer always holds back, otherwise fights would be trivial, over almost immediately, and would figuratively bore The DOOM Slayer to death.
Although in-lore The DOOM Slayer is much much faster after the Divinity Machine, he's technically slower in-game than DOOM 1 and 2… this is purely for gameplay reasons.
The same gameplay reasons for why in Sonic games you never *_literally_* run at the speed of sound, or even supersonic or hypersonic speeds: it's unplayable for all humans. Our brains, eyes, and fingers are incapable of processing and moving at the speeds necessary to be able to keep up with that insane level of speed. (Okay, the eyes and brain can SOMETIMES approach processing things that fast when the body is practically E X P L O D I N G with adrenaline, but apart from that, absolutely not.)
Edit: I just remembered that fighter pilots exist… god I can be dumb sometimes. Alright, STRICTLY USING A MOUSE AND KEYBOARD OR CONTROLLER, any and all human fingers literally cannot move that fast. Disregard the part about "ALL humans" earlier though… fighter pilots are legendary. /Edit
Hell, the *_E N T I R E_* reason that the DOOM Slayer holds back so much is for gameplay reasons.
As for the retcon… yeah that happened. He went from being an extraordinary (but still entirely human) space marine to always having been an incarnation of Satan, who is also God, but just as an ordinary human at first.
That never did really sit right with me, but canon's canon, so it's the way it is.
@@ianrager Hell wasnt hell initially it was some other place that became hell when it was sealed off by the father and Davoth's rage changed the entire dimension itself. "Hell" before it was known as hell was the first place in existence. And if i recall it was the Divinity Machine that elevated The Doom Marine to The Doom Slayer.
That was when The Slayer truly became beyond gods and could destroy anything and anyone. Been a while since i played but i still remember some of these things.

Check out Atomic Heart OST for example. Until it was released, everyone thought that Mick has created all those boss battle bangers. It turned out he did just two, I think the devs just wanted his name on the box. Others were composed by GeoffPlaysGuitar, and his style is indistinguishable from Gordon's.

This is literally told to us in King Novik's codex entry in Doom Eternal...

Well the sentinels are still medieval themed heavily with all their knight armors, spears, swords, ballistas, castles, etc. And that was the goal here.

The low key secret here is that they stepped somethings DOWN. Making the Doomslayer less of a Flying death-raining machine, giving him a slow resolute walk you can REALLY hone in the Head-bashing demon-mowing tank vibe.

Playing through the game as doomguy in the new game is the equivalent of playing through the entire DS3 game as the soul of cinder, literally the only thing they fear is YOU.
