I'm not even a dog owner and I teared up, made me think about my cat I lost last year, he was my shadow in the garden every time i was out there.

To be honest, Mark, I couldn't bring myself to watch this this morning. I'm so sorry for your loss. Scooter will be missed. The buggers aren't with us for long enough. I'm so very sorry Mark. They take a piece of us with them when they go don't they. We've lost both our old boys in the last couple of years, aged 18 & 16. They have left so many happy memories behind along with two un-fillable dog shaped holes. RIP Scooter, there's an infinite number of balls available in heaven, along with as many good boy treats as you can eat 🐾🐾♥️

Mark, I think everyone here that's owned, loved and lost a pet can sympathize with your sorrow. That loss is a serious gut punch to the heart. I lost 2 dogs a number of years ago, and I went without owning another for an 8 year span. 4 years ago, I found another. I'm glad I did. At the end of the day I learned that the joy they bring for the 10-15 years together is greater than the passing pain of loss. I wish you a speedy recovery. God Bless.
What a beautiful and touching tribute, Mark. My beloved Pugsley is 14, deaf, losing sight & smell, walking stiffer every day. I dread the day I know is coming. All we can do is be eternally grateful for the love, loyalty, and joy these precious pets so freely give. There's a reason DOG is GOD spelled backwards.
Please don't take the wrong way but when they get that far along, what quality of life do they have? Are you keeping him alive for him or for you?
I'm not trying to be mean - this was a question my kids posed to me when my Westi, Jackie was so old, deaf, blind in one eye, he was having incontinence issues & it was obviousthat he was in pain trying to walk. My kids sat me down & explained I was hurting him more than I was helping him. Jackie was already old when he showed up as a stray & we gave him 6 yrs. He had a great final 6 yrs. Because we all loved him & didn't want to see him suffer, I had him put down. My kids & I were with him the entire time it took for him to pass & had him cremated with his favorite blanket.
Ask yourself if you're prolonging the inevitable for you or for him. It's not easy but you have to put them first
I appreciate your thoughts, but he isn't that bad yet. I just know the path he's on. But this is about Mark's sweet boy. I was just trying to show my empathy.

I'm so sorry for your loss Mark. The only downside to our furry friends is that they are never with us long enough. All we can do is make their lives as wonderful as we can while they are here, and you clearly did.
Your care and love for this sweet dog says volumes about you. It always hurts so much when they go because of two realities: Dogs make us better people and that a Dog is the ONLY animal on this Earth who will LOVE you more than itself. As one who has lost countless cats AND dogs, I can positively say that, although VERY painful, it is NOTHING like loosing a child. Just ask my brothers. Two of them have lost children and pets. They know the difference.
i know you mean well but from experience ...No it is not . just as losing a parent is not the like losing a child. May you never know the difference.
It's almost the same but not quite. I've lost countless beloved pets but the hurt of losing my dad has haunted and hurt me more. Grief is the hardest emotion to cope with.

We just lost our Kitty ( Yorkie/ Yorkshire Terrier) that was not only such a big part of our Channel, but She was MY BEST Friend, and the loss is still so incredibly hard on us. I miss her so, as she slept with me, was in her Deck Garden daily and at my side 24/7, so many days now I still cry. We send you Love and we will keep you in our heart. I lost my big boy a year ago. I had him from a little puppy to a old man. He was there through all my good and bad times.
