I've wanted to become a doctor for a while, but I'm sort of the opposite. My parents actually don't think I can do it and they want me to do something different but imma do it anyway 😊
My parents pushed me into med school. I became a board certified Rheumatologist. I quit everything now I am sitting at home depressed & full of regret. Now, ironically my whole family hates me for being a failure. Sis, you have really good advice, I wish I’d heard this before my miserable journey into doctor hood. Basically I got bard certified in Rheumatology then quit being a doctor because I found out I wasn’t good at it, I couldn’t retain or learn the knowledge properly. I wish I had done a different profession. I’m a living testament to this lady’s advice. I hope people listen and heed it.
What I will say may be hurtful and harsh but just read...as a person who is nurse I want to tell you my parent s literally forced me become an lawyer and I made an plan I bought tickets and move in Austria with my bestie I miss my parents they don't talk to me but I never try to fix our relationship it's not my fault that I don't wanna be lawyer if I did what they say I could quit it too. Now what can I say to you it's never late.. it's may be really hard but ignore what your parents say move from them leave make plans and do what you want! No Matter how hard it be you can't stay sad because of your parents your life you choose you can stay in same position but your parents will continue being disappointed in you if you will try fix your life they see in you person that broke an unbreakable wall
Why you want to become a doctor: 1.) The money [don't BS]. 2.) You're good at science/school. 3.) The status. Ask yourself, would you get an MD degree if it paid minimum wage to be a doctor? No? Well then apparently money does matter.
I absolutely would become a doctor if it was minimum wage because money is not at all my motivation. People can become doctors for the money if they want to, we all have choices and opinions lol my point was if that's your SOLE motivation, it might not be enough when you're working long hours, stressed etc again its just my opinion. I just see medicine as a life vocation, it's people's lives not objects. The number one reason I want to become a doctor is for the people. To save lives because what else are we there for? to heal and to treat. All your reasons you mentioned are legitimate and they are great but you also need to actually have a love for people so you can fulfil you role the best way possible in my opinion.
Nellah Grace Wow, I feel really stupid now lol. I'm sorry for being a jerk. Number 4.) To save lives. That's definitely the reason why my father was a doctor as well, and he went to join the army in Kabul so he could save lives even tho he was paid much less. I just think that it is very rare to have people like you who actually would take that bet of working as an MD but getting minimum wage. For the majority, money is the deciding factor, but good job on being the minority. For once I'm so happy I'm wrong, because it restores my faith in humanity lol. Anyways, I'm sorry. Continue to be awesome
yeah I totally see what you mean, I mean at the end of the day you work so hard for so long the money is nice lol but its a perk for me. haha thanks man! and no need to be sorry its okay to share opinions and discuss I'm glad you commented at least you weren't rude about it :) and Kudo's to your father that's really commendable!
Damn, you got me there. I'm just kidding. I've wanted to be a doctor for as long as I can remember, and a neurosurgeon since the 6th grade. I won't lie - the pay is really good for neurosurgery, but I would never become one because of the money. I'm basically gonna be throwing my life away to help others. By doing so, I won't even be able to have fun with the money I make. Science has always been my greatest subject in school - I won't lie, so it would be a plus. The status is also a plus. But I want to be a doctor because I would like to help someone - to save someone's life. I want to inspire others to follow the path that I'm following. I want to see further into the world but listening to different people's cases and helping families. I know that I won't be able to save everyone, but I honestly can't wait to become a neurosurgeon because as exciting as it seems, it's basically suicide because I would barely have time for myself because I'm too busy saving others :)
I kinda agree because i actually am really interested in medicine and biology and it annoys me when people just think im in it for the money or because my parents are pushy
yeah! like those other reasons are fine too but they just can't be the only reason by themselves. I've never thought too tough about the money when wanting to do medicine but it is an added bonus lol
Truth. I honestly think this video applies to every area of life. That's like ppl who go to nursing school. When you ask them why, they say because they will get paid a lot.
SimplyKaren28 I don't see why people would think that when it isn't true. The pay IS nice when you are single but not when you have a family to care for (especially in Florida).
Eva Eve P yeah lol I think it totally depends where you're from aswell. In England Nurses can get paid a lot especially if they work for agencies and not the NHS but it's totally never enough money lol
My parents (my mama in particular lol) really wants me to become a doctor and im not really passionate in anything and medicine seems super interesting. I love helping people so i think this is my calling but i am praying:< im just scared i wont be motivated enough but ahhh i really want to go on mission trips (im christian hehe) and i want to help people and i really think this is what i want to do :> wish me luck guys im a junior in high school haha im super excited for the futuuuure.
yeroroo lol saaaame. I'm a senior in high school and I'm in the same boat rn. I'm interested in medicine and dentistry, but not passionate about anything in particular. I really want to help people in some way but I'm trying to figure out what career is my calling. I'm a Christian too and I would love to come back home (Haiti) on mission trips and help heal people that can't afford medical care. Good luck to you! I pray that God would guide you on this path to finding your calling! God bless!
Omg, me too! I really want to be a missionary, but I also want to bring something else to them. Idk if it is medicine or if I need to bring tech skills there, but I know that I want to go to college to do something else that will help me to be better prepared for my mission trips.
yeroroo You don't have to be a doctor to go on missions. My mum is a missionary and she recruits young girls all the time to follow her - gpyouthevangelism. Also u can do Ywam which is a massive missionary company with (like 100) bases all over the world brimming with young people going into the remotest and well known villages and cities. pray over it! ;)
yeroroo woahhhh!!! It's crazy that this whole thread of comments is me ! I feel like God led me to this video 🤔 not in the sense that my parents want me to be a doctor, but I want to be a missionary while working in clinics and I wasn't sure if me working in clinics was as an actual doctor that I need to pursue med school 🤷🏽♀️ keeping you guys in my prayers ❤️
Love this! So spot on. I know SO many pre-meds who just choose medicine because they're good at school, especially science courses, and it seems to them like the logical next step. Being good at school doesn't equal being a good doctor! :D
Exactly!! I think people really need to think about it, its also why we have some bad doctors coz all they care about is the logistics and not the patient but i guess everyone has to learn their own way lol
I love the subject in medicine, I love biology, I like chemistry, I like learning about the human body I also want to be able to afford a beautiful home, it's a dream of mine and super important. The job when you're a doctor is pretty great, it is fairly interesting and rewarding. I don't want to sacrifice my 20s though, I want to be young and enjoy my youth. I don't want to spend a decade just studying and not having time for anythig else. For my entire life past the age of 35, I know I'd be really glad if I did medicine. However I'm not sure if I want to give up my 20s. Either way I know I'll always wonder what if. What if I did medicine, how much happier I would've been with my career. and if I do medicine I'll always wonder what amazing memories I could've created while i was young
I completely agree with you. You only live once and you're only in your 20's once! If you want to enjoy your youth then why not? In fact, it's actually not uncommon for med students to be in their 30s or even way in their 40s. Some people decide to enjoy their 20's and settle down later, and that is completely fine (and common!). Do what's best for YOU. This is YOUR life, not anybody else's. You can create amazing memories regardless. Also, your 20's are so young that you don't even realise it! It's the best time for you to explore, figure things out, live your best life. And even if you decide to do medicine later on, there's nothing wrong with that! It's completely normal. You only have one life, so make the most of it.
@@hanaasiraj3225 So true. Just started med school with 26 and there are many older people in my courses, I would say up to 33 years old. It was the best decision to start later because now I am really dedicated and motivated in order to give my best as a doctor. From 18-26 I enjoyed life, worked a bit, travelled, and just figured out what I want to do.
Saying, that if someone wants to study medicine because of money, he shouldn't even consider it is a BS i my opinion. I am studying medicine myself, I just love it but I know plenty of doctors that do not have real passion for this job and they openly say that they became doctors purely for the money. Not a single one of them regrets it. I have no idea why people treat being a doctor so specially. Would you say same thing to someone who wants to be a plumber? That he shouldn't try to become one if he wants to do this purely fo the money? You may be shocked but most of the society works in a place they don't like, do not have passion for and they just have to earn money. Why not become a doctor then? It is hard, but in the end it pays off. Even if you don't like it you make good living and have relatively interesting job.
I never said people who study medicine for money regret it, i said they could possibly make bad doctors if they don't care for the people. There is always going to be exceptions of people and cases and again these are just MY OPINIONS. From what i've seen and experienced just as you have your opinion from what you have seen and experienced and your opinions are valid. At the end of the day these are just that... opinions. Lol i think there is a huge difference between being a plumber and a doctor. Doctor's deal with people's lives. The most precious and valuable thing people have if their lives and health so if it's in your hands I think that is pretty special don't you? I'm not shocked, I know most of society works in them conditions but does that make it okay? No! just because most people are miserable in their jobs doesn't mean its okay or that everyone should be content with misery. Why not do something you love are passionate about and still earn money aswell. Life isn't just about money alone and neither is being a doctor in my opinion hence why i said it shouldn't be your SOLE reason.
Nellah Grace bad doctors ?? Umm I see where ur coming from with that one but Bad doctor really? It's called jail time ! Not properly caring for your patients ? Not giving the best care for the patients? Well once again jail time! Before even walking into that license you swore under several rules and failure to pursue won't be sweet with the law.
bc medicine is a calling, it is insanely hard and an insanely long road and you have to sacrifice everything else at times to do so. Being that ibankers make more money overall, lawyers have a much shorter road etc, going into medicine for money is a terrible idea.
I agree. I think any job or profession has its own level of difficulty and are difficult in their own way. Whether your an artist, a lawyer, or a cook or whatever.... we all have our reasons whether it is money or to inspire or family whatever. But jobs in healthcare specifically deals with people's lives. There is so much to sacrifice going in to med school. But more than that the biggest difference is patients are NOT just customers. You don't make them pay for treatments they don't need.... or over charge them no. To be a doctor you have look out for your patient's best interest. What will make their lives better and what will make live longer. You deal with life or death situations. Make decisions that will directly affect the quality of your patient's life.
a lot of bad doctors get away with doing intentional harm to patients, even a doctor admitted it himself in his bestselling book, how often undeserving complaints win lawsuits when deserving ones don't. human laws can be flawed
A person who doesn't truly want to be a doctor, will NOT be a good doctor period. No one becomes great at their practice without the proper drive/passion, they just won't be willing to put in the same amount of effort as someone who cares. If you ONLY want to be a doctor for money, you likely won't even get through medical school and will likely just burn out from stress and financial burden. The people who do pass? They're detached, they'll be the doctors who will give you antibiotics and tell you whatever you're going through is no big deal - and the patients will bounce around until they get a doctor who actually cares and will be willing to spend time and dig deeper to give a proper diagnosis. Those unpassionate doctors probably just end up unhappy and then committing suicide anyways, as medical doctors do have the highest rates compared to other professions. mentalhealthdaily.com/2015/01/06/top-11-professions-with-highest-suicide-rates/ Also why the fuck would anyone want a doctor who isn't passionate about what they do and where greed is the main factor? Those doctors would leave a patient as soon as they hear that they and their insurance can't cover the costs! Yeah, that's legal by the way - if you can't pay doctors are not obligated to treat you, after all it is a "service" one must pay for. Many doctors, the ones who are passionate, just do it on their free will.
GEAUXTIGERS0109 Fact is, people who make shitty doctors pass those requirements plenty of the time, because they want the money. Basically, they put up a "front" to get into the field. It's when they actually get into the field and start making the money, that their detached and shit doctor personalities come out. :) A lot doctors do have sociopathic traits, where they're in it only for the power and money.
CandyLand right, because you'd put yourself into hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt just to be able to pay back said debt??? Doubt it. Believe it or not no doctor knows it all. The job is never ending research, long days and nights, deaths, getting bitched at, sleep deprivation. Question is if they're so "shitty" why are they still licensed??
They're still licensed because: shitty doctors are less willing to work the long nights, shitty doctors aren't willing to do ALL the research, shitty doctors don't care as much about the deaths. Best believe that not all doctors are out giving it their all when they are well able to. That's naive. Shitty doctors do the minimum to stay licensed - and that's it. That "minimum" varies depending on the specialty and section. You'll find that the shittier doctors take the easier practices, where the minimum is lower. Think family medicine v.s. dermatology. Dermatology is one of the hardest specialties to get into, but it's high pay and has a way easier workload than compared to family medicine. Most people I know who have had bad experiences with doctors had them with you guessed it - derms! The greed and lack of passion truly does show in how some of them treat their patients. I'm not talking about doctors who push themselves to do the research, who are stressed and tired from trying their best each round, who always try to give their patients their "good" face when it's bad. I know doctors aren't infallible - but shitty doctors exist and will continue to persist in the medical industry. The way you're lashing out tells me you would be surprised to know what some doctors have done behind closed doors to make their jobs easier - like I'm sure you're well aware how antibiotics are over prescribed by doctors to make their patients leave them alone. Also with proper/strict monetary budgeting, proper use of financial resources, taking out the right loans, and making consistent payments, the debt isn't THAT bad considering most doctors will make 6 digit figures right off the bat. (Still bad though.) There are plenty of doctors who live lavishly after aggressively paying off loans.
Ohh How I wish I could have watched this video before I did my degree in Civil Engineering.. I liked Physics and maths so I thought Engineering was going to work out for me Now I have finished my degree, I have no interest in Engineering at all and I did have lots of struggle at uni.. A MUST WATCH.. People need to watch this before they go to uni... Thank you.. It makes sense now x
wow i'm happy you commented coz it's nice to hear from someone who has actually gone through the process and can vouch for my thoughts. I really do hope that especially younger people do watch it because i think it's vital.
+Neema Urassa I know the feeling, I studied engineering too, very difficult major, so much work from classes like FEA structural analysis, heat transfer to numerical methods with Matlab. I initially studied in a healthcare profession and was going to go to medical school because my parents wanted me to be a doctor. While I made decent money working as a therapist, I knew deep down I hated it and medical/hospitals was not for me. I saw how doctors worked long hours and how much time, money will be spent. I decided to study mechanical engineering but realized it didn't give me the "real world" skills I was looking for if I want to be more practical. I decided to switch to BS in mechanical engineering technology with concentration in robotics/ computed aided design and analysis of mechanical structures. Now about to graduate, I came to the conclusion that all I actually really liked is designing/ manufacturing products/mechanical components/electrical systems.. hence, product design or design engineering. It took me a while to find what I really enjoy doing. I was very good with math's, chemistry, biology, music production, drawing, physics, programming etc.., but I have a natural aptitude for creative/intuitive mechanical design. Find something similar that you think you would enjoy.... maybe BIM, GIS or structural engineering, sales, quality assurance, industrial engineering etc.
I'm studying medicine because I like it... and I like the fact that I'll be financially okay in my future. So that's a perk, not the main reason but defff a perk.
I started crying with the last thing that you said. I've always been a person who loves to help everyone, I don't understand why it brings happiness to me when I see someone else happy as well, it has always been in me. My mother is an Ob-gyn, both of my cousin and brother are studying medicine. They never pushed me to study medicine or anything, they just wanted me to become happy with what I choose in life, and I choose to become a doctor. I want to work hard to make the lives of other people more comfortable to live in. Thank you very much for making this video, it made me realize who and what I truly am.
that's a great characteristic to have! I'm the same it really does bring so much joy. That's amazing that you have those role models in your life too to see what its really like first-hand. What year of med school are you in btw and do you know what you want to specialise in yet?. Thank you so much for your comment it really made me smile x
I want to be a doctor or in the medical field because of money. It's true but I also enjoy helping people, and the money that I make i can also use that to donate and aid other people. I think it's a good career because u make money and help people, if u have good intentions it all ends up helping others.
Thank you sisi. If you love medicine I think you should go for it. Nothing impossible as long as you believe, work hard try alternatives to get thr. All the best
The only thing I would add is handeling the pressure. If you end up in med school you need to be able to handle the pressure and the competition otherwise you won't survive
Doctor In spe this is so so true! I actually mentioned this in my video which is coming up soon about pressure and competition because it's probably one of he biggest things you're right! x
omg hahahahahah When I saw your title for the video i rolled my eyes... but I wanted to listen due to my curiosity.... then i understood what you meant. Great video. I AGREE with you, this is soooooo true. The amount of pain, blood sweat and tears that goes into med school is real. What undergraduate schools fail to say is the passion and determination that is needed to succeed not just grades.
All west African parents should watch this video . Please send it to them or show them. We must break this "must study medicine " to African parents😂😂. Ik this video was sent to my parent on WhatsApp since they want to believe everything there. They will surely believe this video.😂😭
I love how in every video you squeeze a bit of your faith! Love your videos you are literally living my "future" life. LOOL ! Im a christian pre-med student. New subscriber :)
haha i literally just said this to someone just nw so i'll say the same thing lol I genuinley want to 'heal'. I think doctors are like the next best ting from God lol. I think the human body is so fascinating, i love learning about it and knowing how to fix it when it goes wrong. I also LOVE people and making people happy so what best way to make someone happy than to heal their bodies or encourage good health. I also like the level of responsibility of a doctor. The list is endless tbh.
Hi Neliah! Are you in the States? I was going to the medical route but changed to be a scientific researcher instead. I also loved the idea of healing. Unfortunately, that is not the case in the US. Doctors are trained to 1-diagnose 2-prescribe (or run other lab tests). The hospital and doctors are now considered a business, where people who ignorantly damage their bodies (dietary misinformation, no prevention guidance) enter a cycle of diagnosis, lab tests, and prescriptions. Unfortunately Doctors are not trained to prevent because the food industry knows best and highers researchers to provided misleading information. When I saw your video, I was hoping it would shed more light that doctors are not healers, but just diagnose and prescribe. Researchers are the ones that investigate and come up with vaccines, or treatments that cure diseases. Doctors just prescribe whatever is needed. I also love people! But I would have to disagree with you that to be an Md you have to love people. Successful doctors are those that are able to hold their emotion, and think in a calculative manner. I would rather have a doctor that does not do well with people but is damn good, then a very cheerful doctor that does ok on the job. Their is a guy in my research team who aspires to become a doctor because of the money, he is terrible with people and consider him selfish, he got kicked out of the team because of his antisocial ways but damn, he knew his shit and I think will be a great doctor. It seems that what you want to do is help people prevent disease. So when you become a doctor I would suggest you to study disease prevention and preach to people as much as you can! Inside and outside the hospital. Prevention is the way to go. And doctors are nothing closer to God. Their is soo much that doctors don't know but healing, actually sometimes doctors (unintentionally) cause further harm to the body by wrong procedures, prescriptions, or human error. Anyway I hope my message doesn't sound rude. Thats not my intention, just wanted to share my perspective. With 7 billion people in the world, I decided to be a scientist to find means to 'heal' the world (I know, like you I am also very ambitious and want to make a difference :)). Not that I am against my people, but we have affected the world sooo much, we have used sooo many resources, I know Trump doesn't agree but this global warming is largely due to humans. I know there is something we can do to protect the environment or other species.
Medicine can be seen like any other profession, really. Yes, you should have some kind of social skills, empathy and patience to listen and understand other people's worries and problems.. but all in all, it's something that should come naturally along the way. There's nothing wrong to get into a career path wishing also for economical stability, and the chance to get almost surely employed.. pure and blind idealism alone isn't not going to keep you through hard times and paying bills
certain jobs like being the CEO of a company or other jobs in business pay very well. petroleum engineering is also another high paying job that does not require attending school for as long as being a doctor
It's not necessarily the actual pay that's more. Becoming a practicing physician takes 4 years of medical school, (on average) $200k+ debt, and ~4+ years of residency before you make real money. You won't be earning much until you're ~30 at the earliest. Those 8+ years are no walk in the park either. You have to wade through a sea of information, study for your boards, work god-awful hours during rotations/residency, and deal with a lot of psychological stress. That, plus you'll rarely ever see a pay increase - your wage will more or less stagnate once you become an attending. Compared to other professions, like accounting, engineering, etc. let you start right after college ~21-22 years old. From 22-30, you're making 8 years of income (including 8 years of 401K and other retirement contributions which will accrue interest from when you're 22 until 64.5), and avoiding that additional $200k+ debt. Sure you're not making much in the beginning, but you can work your way up as you gain more experience and be earning 6-figure salaries and living comfortably without the extra schooling/exams. In the end, money shouldn't be the primary motivator of becoming a physician because the work put in isn't worth it, assuming you can even get into medical school (~40% of applicants get in a year or something - I had to apply twice before getting in somewhere). Physicians are paid well because it's compensating for the school, training, and BS they have to deal with on the daily... and being responsible for taking care of others' lives.
Almost every student will go in debt regardless what he or she choses. Becoming a doctor is most valuable regarding the pay, even though you're taking debt into consideration. There is a reason why here in Sweden, where I live, only medicine is studied full-time abroad as it is the only profession that pays off when finishing abroad (cause of extra student loans). A good engineering program is about 5 years here in Sweden and after graduating you'll get a harder time finding a good job while there's always jobs for doctors. I don't think you should chose a profession just because of the pay but I'm not agreeing that there are less stressful and more paying jobs than physicians.
Being a successful CEO for a company takes a lot of work with a much much greater level of stress. You won't be seeing successful CEO relaxing at the beach when building a company, most dont even take pay first years.
THANK YOUUU OMG it concerns me when people say they want to become a medical doctor just because of the salary. I actually have been wanting to pursue psychiatry for a while and I really want to try and help others. Thank you for such a beautiful video
I agree completely.I think some people are good at science (not necessarily like it )and people always suggest that they should study medicine .You kinda mentioned it already though :).
Michelle Mukunga yeah! I remember being in the same position as in people would tell me to do medicine just because they thought I was smart and it's not enough for sure.
3 Reasons Why Med Students Say YOU Shouldn't Study Medicine: 1.) They study medicine, and they don't want more people doing what they do 2.) More doctors means less money and more competition for them 3.) They don't like competition and want the most money possible Simple as that.
Why you should become a doctor: - the pay is good, the harder you work the more you rank in the pay grade - your passionate about medicine - it will make your parents the proudest people - you’ll gain the respect you deserve - STATUS don’t settle for less, get your degree and masters and all of that, secure a job and aim for the largest pay grade, which I think is band 9. Ranges from £100k+
Just because I fell in love with the 200K plus doesn't mean I wont be a doctor who does the most for the patients. That's like saying if I love football I shouldn't go to the pros expecting millions.
I wasn't saying you shoudn't expect a lot of money, I said if your SOLE reason is because you want loads of money it might not be enough motivation over time. Same way with a footballer they also must have a love for the game, fans etc to keep going for long, that's also how i see medicine but I'm just a medical student you're a doctor so you have more experience than me lol of course you can do the most for your patients and that was also my point that you need to have more than just money. The fact that you still do the most for patients means you don't fall into the category I was talking about :)
I'm going to start college next year and I have really been struggling lately with deciding on what I want to major in (I know I could always change it later on, but still). My parents have been pushing for me to become a doctor my whole life, so I figured that I would major in biology or something--the only problem is that I realized this year that I absolutely hate biology with every fiber of my being. I thought I "liked" science, but I feel almost as if I have been fooling myself into thinking that I liked it, just because I had decided from a young age that I was definitely going to become a doctor. And, after making this decision, I just can't imagine myself becoming anything else, yet I realized that almost every single one of the reasons your mentioned in this video are why I would want to become a doctor. Despite being a very empathetic person and loving to help people, I just don't know if I like science enough to be motivated to get through all of the years of school that would entail with becoming a doctor. I just wish there was another job out there that pays (almost) as well as being a physician and is just as fulfilling. (Sorry for the long comment, I just needed to let this out and, for some reason, the comment section of this video actually feels like a pretty safe space...!)
I think you also have to look at the bigger picture. The science in high school is very different to medical school, And the biology is more focused on human biology as opposed to general biology in school so you might find yourself enjoying it. I don't think any of the reasons I gave are bad reasons in themselves as long as they aren't your SOLE reason. If you want to study medicine because you love to help people and also you like the challenge and think you can handle it aswell as you want money. That is perfectly normal it's just in my opinion bad when you have only ONE reason i.e I only want to be a doctor for the money because that is not balanced. Motivation comes and goes even if you enjoy studying so its something you have to get yourself programmed to overcoming. If you are truly passionate about the field and think you will succeed in it then I would say go for it and like you aid you can always change your major :)
Studying medicine doesn't mean u have to be a doctor afterwards. I'm studying medicine and genetics in order to get into cancer rersearch, stem sell research, etc. AND because of the money AND because i am passionate about the topic AND because of the statuts AND bc I love science.. but medicine i purely studied bc of the money and status it would bring me .... it IS MY SOLE MOTIVITATION.... and I love studying it and getting high scores bc whenever I want to quit or get stressed out I tell myself: " I f u quit medicine right now, u will be an underpaid researcher, JUST THINK ABOUT THE HIGH NUMBER WHEN U CHECK UR BANK ACCOUNT AT 40 YEARS OLD". This video is pure *********. Except for the "don't study bc ur parents want u to" everything else is *******. (don't take this as hate or so, its just my opinion it also nothing against u, its what i hear a lot of people say when they talk about t"studying medicine") And u are not talking about why u shouldn't study medicine, but why u shouldn't become a doctor.
My family brainwashed me that MD is the only career path. Tho we did not have the financial capabilities, i managed to enroll in a med school thru scholarship. However, during med school, i realized i never wanted to become a physician. To make long story short, i quit halfway thru 1st yr. She is spilling the truth.
I've always wanted to study medicine, for as long as I can remember, before i knew about the money. Secondly, my parents just want me to be happy, they dont care what I do. Lastly, I actually love helping people and animals (Grandma is a nurse and mom is a vet tech) and I have experience working in the field even thia early on. One thing I hate is the school time... it takes so long to do anything in the medical field
you should never give up on your dreams. the fact that its your dream is more than enough for you to pursue it! My aim is not to discourage ( I myself am studying to be a doctor) lol i was just trying to give a broad perspective for medical school and the hardships that can come when people have the wrong SOLE motivations. All the best and i hope you achieve your dreams x
Another thing, you have to have good grades, high MCATscore, good memory and excellent retention of knowledge, otherwise you’ll struggle through the whole training process (med school, internship, residency, fellowship etc...). So even if you just want to help people, have job security and “like science”, you will be regretting your decision soon enough if you don’t have the mental capabilities. I’m just giving honest testimony....don’t waste your life and $.
Nothing in life is easy. All of it is hardwork. I ageee do it if u love it. But dont be discouraged by her. Do what u want you know the reality. Either you gonna do it or not. Just know you can do anything through God. And thats a fact. Before u go to others for their thoughts go to God for proper explanations
my aim is not to discourage. its too share my opinion. Of course you can do whatever you put your mind to, i was giving light advice based on what i've experienced :)
Wow this video was so helpful! I really took a step back and evaluated why I wanted to study medicine and it made me realize I'm wanting to for all the RIGHT reasons. While money is a plus and I'm making my parents happy, IM doing what I love and I'm getting payed well to do so. My biggest advocation for medicine is the fact I get to heal people and see them smile and happy when they are better. I love to travel and do missionary work because I genuinely enjoy it. Anyways, Thanks for the vid!
I want to be a doctor not because of the money many of people lives were lost by multiple sickness my life long friend died of cancer and I don't want anybody else lose someone they love
As long as you're a good doctor then it doesn't matter why you chose to be a doctor, if money is what's pushing me to become a good doctor then that's a good enough reason, because at the end of the day the reasons don't matter but the results do.
Coming from an Asian background I definitely know what you're talking about. I'm not a doctor, but some of my relatives are either physicians or something in the medical field. They all look down on me because I wasn't interested in medicine. I ask them why? Most of them tell me because its a stable career with good salary and people will respect you because of the status. I was speechless and shocked not to mention angry and offended. They don't really notice that there is a price to pay for everything. They're going to be deep in debt to the neck. In fact, some physicians are still paying it when they retired and that's put a burden toward taxpayers to clean up the mess if they doesn't finished paying off. Plus, you are going to be penalize tax a lot if you make a lot especially in America from uncle Sam. The whole six figures salary of a doctor is misleading. Like you mention in this video. Some of them are going to medical school just to please their parent because of the status or the stable salary. That is sad and very dangerous. What will happen if everyone want to be a doctors when they're not supposed to be? The medical field will be saturated and it will more competitive for a landing a job after training. You might as well starting your own business or investing right after high school and you be making good money. I just can't imagine doing something that you have no passion and motivation which can lead to a dangerous consequences like being miserable, depress, and committing suicide. And yeah doctor job is very stressful and most of them will never able to see their children because they're too busy. Sorry for saying too much lol!
hey! i'm currently studying to become a medical scientist for my undergrad degree. Even though i always had dreams of becoming a doctor I decided to pursue other things for now and maybe think about it later. I still haven't lost my passion for medicine and even though i do love what im studying right now i just have a feeling of wanting to do more. I am pretty sure that i want to do medicine not because of "money" but because i've always been interested in biological sciences and helping people . The thing is i'm really reserved and introverted and i'm questioning whether i can become a good doctor or if medicine is meant for people like me? Everyone says you'll get over the introverted-ness but i'm not really sure.
I think you can for sure! being a doctor is not a social event lol so you don't have to be extroverted or loud etc. You just have to be able to communicate well with other people when you do communicate. Relating information easily, being approachable etc. It doesn't mean people like yourself can't be doctors, even if you don't get over the introvertedness it's okay. As long as you can speak to a human being lol but you might get exhausted over time having to interact with people daily for long hours but I'm an introvert too and I think we will be fine in terms of energy wise lol
For me, the reason why I am choosing Pre-Med is simply because I enjoy pushin limits of my human knowledge. I know you can practically learn bio and chemistry outside from school on the internet, but I think there is just something special about school itself. Especially college when compared to high school. All the things that you aspire to do in the future, depends upon you, and what's great is that you are the creator of that vision. I may not have had that certain passion for anything in high school, but growing up I saw that my family was in medicine. I was never pressured to go into medicine, but I saw how it has impacted me growing up, the daily concern for staying healthy. Just go out and do whatever you feel like doing, as long as you are happy doing it, the amount it cost shouldn't be a determining factor in that decision.
I know so many people who only want to study medicine because of the status or the money, while they make fun of me and others for wanting to actually help others no matter what it takes. This video is great, thank you for it.
Im a 14 year old in South Korea who wants to be a physician really bad. Lately, I’ve been scared to pursue my dream bc competition in this country is fucking insane, not to mention that if I fail there will be no going back up. However, this video gave me that motivation again. If I don’t want to fail, I just have to work harder, not give up :)
I'm going to go back to college for nursing. My current degree (business management) is absolutely not right for me. It was a quick decision just to have something. I did not even consider what I truly wanted to do. Many people like to get into any aspect of health care for the money. I want to do nursing because I've always wanted to help people, and I love medical stuff. I always have. I also love science. I want to be happy with my job. Being able to make a difference in a patient's life, even if it's something as simple as giving them a thicker blanket to keep them warmer, really counts. I've seen my grandparents in the hospital, wasting away. I know what it's like to be on the other side, having to deal with he fact that you know they are about to die. If they aren't terminally ill, I want to help people get better. The money? That's really just a bonus.
I pursued medicine for those three reasons... and I'm a physician now. The first two reasons were certainly terrible, but the third being an interest in science I felt was a legitimately good one. It probably helped that the science I found interesting was the biology of the human body. Go figure.
I don't think they are terrible reasons like i said in the video i think if thats your ONLY motivation then it might get harder as you go along. and YES! exactly thats what i was saying like if you like high school science, i don't think its enough because its not really related to med school except human biology which of course you have to have an interest in it to do medicine lol I completely agree.
I love science and everything that has a contribution of it. I previously sucked at it because of my teachers Whenever i forgot to do my homework they would kick me out of the classroom Lol till i found a teacher that inspired me and made me so passionate about it i can't describe how i used to hate the course "Science" and how much i'm into it right now! I wanna become a Neurosurgeon which i really think is Amazing! I believe in my capabilities that Yes i can do! And i'm doing it because i enjoy that field 👩🏻⚕️
You're really pretty.❤And thanks for the good advice! Though I'm not thinking about doing medicine or anything, i feel like this applies to a lot of things in life.
All the tips you gave are so true but sadly people still go in despite it all. Sure the job pays high but doctors and other fields that make a lot pay shit load of tax and other fees also if they live in G7 countries. But honestly it shows on the floor the doctors who are very passionate, it comes out through patients being happy and who broadcast about you. Thats what makes me happy when people come out really pleased and happy, and even if things go wrong they know you did your best. You are so pretty too by the way!
So my parents want me to be a doctor but I really wanna be a detective.. my dad keeps giving me advice saying that I need to do something that will get me somewhere in life and I told him that it’s not all about the money it’s about me and what I enjoy doing but they would never let me do my mind. Idk what to do
Money is great motivation to join the medical profession? That's absolutely bullshit. People will DIE on you. People will give you SHIT on you and even disrespect you while you are trying to help them. There are higher chances for sexual harassment in the medical profession. The work load is HEAVY, way more than your typical 8 hours per day job, AND you can be called in at insane hours like 2AM. Doctors in the US are actually quite underpaid and overworked due to lack of staff. If greed/money is your only reason for trying to enter the medical profession, gtfo - and I mean that as in gtfo and save yourself the trouble. :) All the people the people trying to tell you that money is a good reason are likely stupid and/or ignorant to the realities of medical practice.
You're one of the ignorant then. No medical professional can save/treat every patient that comes through the door, no matter how hard they try or how smart they are. People will die on you, period.
A nice informative video! 😁 I never went to Uni! I always wanted to be a bus driver! 🚍🚏🏃♂️ After travelling and living in Australia for 3 years, I decided to fulfil my childhood ambition! 👌
I'm in 10th grade and my father wants me to become a doctor because of the money and for "helping others", but my strengths are Math related and I suck at biology and sciences like that, but luckily the rest of my family says to me that "I should study whatever makes me happy"
yepp! you could find jobs in the mathematical field. There's nothing wrong with being a doctor either obviously but do whatever you do for the right reasons and something that will give you a future too.
I totally agree with you. Being a doctor isn't that easy for wanting to do it only for money : study is difficult and long, the doctor's daily is very stressfull, you don't have the time for you and your familly or your friends and you had to love helping people if you want to stick it out.
I wanna study medicine cause I love working children and adults alike! Doctors fascinate me! Plus I know I've been to the doctors a lot and I kinda study them .. like what behaviour!
My reasons for considering studying medicine and becoming a doctor : 1. I have always strived to help others when they are at the lowest point in their life medically. I have strong interests in health and safety, and wish to do my part in assisting people in getting well when their sick. 2. I have family members who have gone through serious illnesses, and I am lucky to have a father as he caught a serious infection and barely made it through. The type of infection my father caught are commonly mistaken for other diseases, despite there being clear and distinct symptoms present. I wanna do my part in stopping patients from dying, as there are several cases each year in which patients either die, or receive life changing conditions because of this exact type of infection. In Norway it's not too bad because of our welfare benefits. But anywhere else, such as the US, it means financial disaster because you are lucky if you are ever able to work again. 3. I find the subject exciting and interesting. I have always been above avarage interested in anything that has to do with health and caring for others, so studying it seems to not be too bad for me.
she is absolutely right. Depression and Suicide rate is highest among med students and docs because of the stress involved. Therefore, if one doesn't wake up every morning with the drive to promote healing, it'll burn you out no matter how smart you are
My mother died with cancer and was an encouragement for me to help other that's why I wanted to get into the field. But now as I am into law studies I still feel that urge but don't want. To be mixed up so I'll stick with what I started
LOL google 10 most paid jobs :) you'd be surprised. Not sure about the less stressful/less work bit. Point is physician isn't the only way to make money.
Lol the whole reason why people go to college is to get a good career that PAYS a lot of money. Let's not lie now, now a days if you want to make it in this economy you have no choice but to have some type of degree just to walk through the door in certain businesses/ fields of employment. If people could get or find a decent paying job that doesn't require college, I feel like A LOT of people wouldn't bother going in the first place.
Being non judgemental is part of becoming a doctor I don't really sense that here, a lot of assumptions not enough 2 sided views, which medical school do you go to?
the three reasons you mentioned are some of my reasons as to why I'm considering studying medicine but I'm also considering it because I love the idea of being able to give and help people with whatever they need and now I'm honestly not sure whether I should pursue it omg please help mee
That's why i study medicine too. Just to clarify those reasons aren't bad, they are only bad in my opinion when its the SOLE reason. Like the ONLY reason you want to be a doctor is to get money. but of course it can be a factor along with other things. If you have passion for it then go for it.
I AGREE 110%!! So many people I know in my hear who say shit like "I wanna be a neurosurgeon". Context: I'm 15, we haven't even done our first major exams that decide sixth form let alone Uni (UK system) and I'm top set sciences & maths, aspiring to hopefully be a medic. I have done SO MUCH research and everything to check this is the field for me and even then I'm not sure I'll get the 12 A*s I want, in order to apply to Oxford medicine. And I hear people who are in middle / bottom sets for science, with predicted Bs and C's, making claims on how they want to be a neurosurgeon. As if they already know what they want to specialise in??? Jesus Christ. It annoys me to no end. One girl says she wants to be a "OB/GYN". How on earth do you know when you're 15 if 1) you'll even have the grades for med school 2) you'll get INTO a med school 3) what you're gonna specialise in when you're like 24 🤔
This one boy in my science class says "if I don't get into oxford medicine I'll kill myself". He always talks about doing medicine but not once has he mentioned helping people, saving lives or doing anything other than "getting into Oxford". All he cares about is status and looking good to other people so he can show off about getting in. Honestly it's really disturbing because he has his heart set on something he doesn't even want and he'll realise on day 1 of med school that he doesn't even want to be a doctor
well idk about not doing it for the money like I want to go into medicine and I do have a passion I wouldn't say it's a vocation but if the pay wasn't good I really doubt I would go waste all that time and money and stress so idk I'd say money is kinda important
Ever since I was a child like for as long as I can remember like 1st grade till now I've wanted to be a doctor. And my mom is a witness. I don't believe my mom brainwashed me into wanting to become a doctor as a kid. I don't think I was that influenced to listen to everything like that. But I also think it's rare for a child less than 8 years old to know exactly what they want to be when they grow up and actually stick with it. I've always loved science. Other than reading in some occasions, Science is one of my most favorite subjects. That and art, foreign language, anything computers, and others. But science was at the top. As a kid I wasn't afraid of watching surgery videos. They were interesting. I had the idea of wanting to be a surgeon cause of watching them and also Ben Carson. And as years went by and I graduated highschool, I started off in community college and I'm still here. So my mom said that I could do pediatrics because I love kids and I wanted to be a doctor but I was undecided on what I wanted to do. So right now I have decided to do pediatrics. I'm not good with adults, but I don't with kids and can be free and comfortable. So you're right about if you're not a people person don't go to medical school. So in a way it kinda applies to me halfway. But it also depends on what field of medicine you want to pursue. So you can't be antisocial and want to be a sports medicine doctor or be a nurse especially. It's kinda crazy lol. So pray and ask God to guide you in the path that you want to go and if God confirms it then strive for it. I'm still praying myself and I'm happy I listened to this video.
And with the nursing thing, I didn't know what I wanted to pursue so many nurses or people in the medical field in whatever category said why not do nursing to me? I knew for a good fact that I hated nursing so much. Mostly because I see so many of my African people pursue it and I see ALOT of them do it but are just doing it to out money on the table and not because they actually enjoy it. I was a smart kid so when people say do it I really think, would I be happy if I was doing nursing. Yes I would make money and guaranteed a job anywhere, but would I be happy? I knew the answer to that question and that was why everytime someone suggests nursing I say heck no. I'm not that much of a people person and I would rather do something more research based than working with people. And when I hear nursing I mostly think about adults, which is my lowest area. I just know in my heart that I wouldn't be happy or satisfied with a nursing degree. nope.
I'm still becoming a pediatric Neurosurgeon. I adore and am really great with kids. The human brain is my biggest passion, and my first love lol. I cannot imagine myself being happy doing anything else. While the road may be long and hard. It will all be worth it for me.
I've recently found my desire to become a doctor. I'm average at science but I'm pushing myself so hard to be above average so I can do well in my exams so I can get all of the qualifications I need and maybe more. It's the only job I've thought of in my 15 years of existing that makes my heart warm up at the thought of my career being
I wanna be a doctor because I wanna help people not for the money and I don't even know how much money they get paid Also I love Biology and Chemistry and I really want to save people lives
Then go for it for sure!! Those are the same reasons i want to do it too. I've never looked to see what the salaries are like. I know they are good but that is definitely not my sole motivation. It's a part of but not the only reason.
I think that you have to love science to become a doctor. Wanting to heal people in not nearly enough to go through certain courses if you are not passionate about science.
Of course you do. But just as you said, one without the other isn't enough. A mere love for science with no interest in people/healing to me is also not enough which was my point. You can't just have one as a SOLE/MAIN reason and the other outbalanced. It might not work in the long-run.
It doesn't mean you would make a terrible doctor. It's just my opinion that sometimes money won't be enough of a motivation with a career in medicine to always do the best for the patient. But it's my opinion.
I want to study pediatric medicine because I really enjoy staying active and meeting new people. I love children and just love science. I love to read and constantly learn so I believe medicine is a fit for me because I’ve had first hand experiences in the health field by working in a nurse home and was a mascot for my school. I enjoy the aspect and the environment of a hospital.
Thanks to my mom ☺️ She made me a doctor of dental medicine and my sister an obgyne and now she's enjoying her life to the fullest because she's a millionaire 😊 and now my niece and my daughter are now in Med school 😱 no regrets at all 👍🏻
That's awesome!! I am considering OBGYN in the future too :) Glad they are enjoying their lives that is the goal, to have people enjoying thier jobs and lives because they made the right career paths for the right reasons :)
kayan Samuels that's true obviously it truly depends on your speciality but i think it's a good trait to have to actually care for people coz it will help lol
I will not lie,I was interested in the medical field because it is paid well and I’m at the point in school where I should have an idea of what career I’m interested in and after watching this video I think business or finance is definitely the field for me and NOT medicine. When I was younger I did really want to be a gynaecologist but med school isnt for me
My parents did push me into becoming a dentist and I couldn't really argue with them because I don't have any other alternatives. BUT I looked into it and I actually really like it and now have a passion to be a dentist. So everything your parents say is not COMPLETE bs.
very true! Parent's for the most part want the the best for us and thy have more experience and knowledge. The difference is you actually went into it and looked it up and then grew a passion which is great and should be the goal with parents' advice. You didn't go into it hating it and only doing it for your parents which was my whole point.
I've wanted to become a doctor for a while, but I'm sort of the opposite. My parents actually don't think I can do it and they want me to do something different but imma do it anyway 😊
Yes do it! if you think you can and you want to then go for it! x
My parents pushed me into med school. I became a board certified Rheumatologist. I quit everything
now I am sitting at home depressed & full of regret.
Sorry to hear, I hope things work out for you. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Blessings to you.
Why you want to become a doctor:
1.) The money [don't BS].
Fry Wolf becouse It's cool to operate! It's interresting.
Martha, I feel you
SimplyKaren28 yeah it's never enough tbh there always has to be a better reason.
Eva Eve P yeah lol I think it totally depends where you're from aswell. In England Nurses can get paid a lot especially if they work for agencies and not the NHS but it's totally never enough money lol
That is honestly why there is so many crappy nurses and doctors. My uncle is in the hospital now and he only had 1 good nurse.
mjow that's a shame :( I hope your uncle is doing better now x
God bless!
yeroroo the same thing goes for me! Although I'm really passionate about pursuing my dream career I'm really scared of my scores at the end :
I love the subject in medicine, I love biology, I like chemistry, I like learning about the human body
I also want to be able to afford a beautiful home, it's a dream of mine and super important.
This is exactly how I'm feeling as well
Some people enjoy their time earlier in life and start med shh school around 25/26 or later
This is exactly how I'm feeling right now,I'm trying to make a decision on what to do😔
I completely agree with you.
Make decisions that will directly affect the quality of your patient's life.
a lot of bad doctors get away with doing intentional harm to patients, even a doctor admitted it himself in his bestselling book, how often undeserving complaints win lawsuits when deserving ones don't. human laws can be flawed
me on my third year of medicine: 👁️👄👁️
Is it too late
Same 🤣
😃😃😃😃
tbh dont agree with the money point, if you're good at being a doctor, then i dont think it matters if you just want the money.
A person who doesn't truly want to be a doctor, will NOT be a good
doctor period. No one becomes great at their practice without the proper
drive/passion, they just won't be willing to put in the same amount of
effort as someone who cares.
If you ONLY want to be a doctor for money, you likely won't even get
through medical school and will likely just burn out from stress and
financial burden. The people who do pass? They're detached, they'll be
the doctors who will give you antibiotics and tell you whatever you're
going through is no big deal - and the patients will bounce around until
they get a doctor who actually cares and will be willing to spend time
and dig deeper to give a proper diagnosis. Those unpassionate doctors
probably just end up unhappy and then committing suicide anyways, as
medical doctors do have the highest rates compared to other professions.
mentalhealthdaily.com/2015/01/06/top-11-professions-with-highest-suicide-rates/
Also why the fuck would anyone want a doctor who isn't passionate about
what they do and where greed is the main factor? Those doctors would
leave a patient as soon as they hear that they and their insurance can't
cover the costs! Yeah, that's legal by the way - if you can't pay
doctors are not obligated to treat you, after all it is a "service" one
must pay for. Many doctors, the ones who are passionate, just do it on
their free will.
they wouldn't have passed med school, boards, residency, and got licensed if they were that bad lmao
GEAUXTIGERS0109 Fact is, people who make shitty doctors pass those requirements plenty of the time, because they want the money. Basically, they put up a "front" to get into the field.
It's when they actually get into the field and start making the money, that their detached and shit doctor personalities come out. :)
A lot doctors do have sociopathic traits, where they're in it only for the power and money.
+Neema Urassa
I know the feeling, I studied engineering too, very difficult major, so much work from classes like FEA structural analysis, heat transfer to numerical methods with Matlab.
Neema Urassa Damn you discovered hot water
I have also done civil enginnering from india same felling comes to me i dont like enginnering Now I Want to Go For Medical
I'm studying medicine because I like it... and I like the fact that I'll be financially okay in my future. So that's a perk, not the main reason but defff a perk.
me too! I totally agree x
Such wisdom from a young person. If more young people used their head like you the world would be such a better place.
I want to be a doctor or in the medical field because of money. It's true but I also enjoy helping people, and the money that I make i can also use that to donate and aid other people. I think it's a good career because u make money and help people, if u have good intentions it all ends up helping others.
completely agree!
Do it because of passion and love if not you might quit seriously or you can still not be happy with your self for the rest of your life.
I'm studying medicine for the money DEAL WITH IT.
straight savage...
It’s The Crossroads of altruism and capitalism and that’s just fine with us.
please do "why i should become a medicine student"
that's such a great idea thank you for the suggestion! x
What undergraduate schools fail to say is the passion and determination that is needed to succeed not just grades.
hahah, thank you for watching and giving it a chance! and yes I couldn't agree more!!
All west African parents should watch this video . Please send it to them or show them. We must break this "must study medicine " to African parents😂😂. Ik this video was sent to my parent on WhatsApp since they want to believe everything there. They will surely believe this video.😂😭
You should show them Dr Sebi!!
Haha, my mom is West African and keeps pressuring me. Now I'm really conflicted
I love how in every video you squeeze a bit of your faith! Love your videos you are literally living my "future" life. LOOL ! Im a christian pre-med student. New subscriber :)
Out of curiosity why are you studying medicine?
haha i literally just said this to someone just nw so i'll say the same thing lol I genuinley want to 'heal'.
Nellah Grace see next best thing from God. Honey dont even compare. Lol dont deter people from what they want
cici dilaurentis sounds like something you'd say on a personal statement lool
Lool next best thing to God, girl check yourself
Medicine can be seen like any other profession, really. Yes, you should have some kind of social skills, empathy and patience to listen and understand other people's worries and problems.. but all in all, it's something that should come naturally along the way. There's nothing wrong to get into a career path wishing also for economical stability, and the chance to get almost surely employed.. pure and blind idealism alone isn't not going to keep you through hard times and paying bills
agreed!
Thing is, it's the only career I'm thinking of going into because I don't know of any other nice science/biology related careers that appeal to me😭
0:50 what jobs pay way more with lesser stress and studying?
certain jobs like being the CEO of a company or other jobs in business pay very well. petroleum engineering is also another high paying job that does not require attending school for as long as being a doctor
You won't be seeing successful CEO relaxing at the beach when building a company, most dont even take pay first years.
stripping. LOL
How can you be good at something you don’t like??? Its just stupid
3 Reasons Why Med Students Say YOU Shouldn't Study Medicine:
1.) They study medicine, and they don't want more people doing what they do
2.) More doctors means less money and more competition for them
3.) They don't like competition and want the most money possible
Simple as that.
a true passion for science though will vastly help get through the didactic years of med school, it's a huge huge plus.
For sure! I agree, its all about balance i guess and being all rounded in all areas x
Why you should become a doctor:
- the pay is good, the harder you work the more you rank in the pay grade
- your passionate about medicine
- it will make your parents the proudest people
- you’ll gain the respect you deserve - STATUS
don’t settle for less, get your degree and masters and all of that, secure a job and aim for the largest pay grade, which I think is band 9.
(don't take this as hate or so, its just my opinion it also nothing against u, its what i hear a lot of people say when they talk about t"studying medicine")
And u are not talking about why u shouldn't study medicine, but why u shouldn't become a doctor.
Well look at that, an opinion just like mine. Isn’t it great we are all allowed to share ours 😊👍🏾
One thing I hate is the school time... it takes so long to do anything in the medical field
well I'm going to do it anyway, I'm not giving up on my dreams
you should never give up on your dreams. the fact that its your dream is more than enough for you to pursue it! My aim is not to discourage ( I myself am studying to be a doctor) lol i was just trying to give a broad perspective for medical school and the hardships that can come when people have the wrong SOLE motivations. All the best and i hope you achieve your dreams x
Another thing, you have to have good grades, high MCATscore, good memory and
excellent retention of knowledge, otherwise you’ll struggle through the whole training process
(med school, internship, residency, fellowship etc...). So even if you just want to help people, have
job security and “like science”, you will be regretting your decision soon enough if you don’t have
the mental capabilities.
Most professions "help people " in one way or another. I chose this type of "helping people" for the big bucks
I feel like this was clickbait
Wow this video was so helpful! I really took a step back and evaluated why I wanted to study medicine and it made me realize I'm wanting to for all the RIGHT reasons. While money is a plus and I'm making my parents happy, IM doing what I love and I'm getting payed well to do so. My biggest advocation for medicine is the fact I get to heal people and see them smile and happy when they are better. I love to travel and do missionary work because I genuinely enjoy it. Anyways, Thanks for the vid!
I can completely relate!!
I thought this video was of a displeased medical student telling *others* NOT to go to medical school...
Find me another job that makes as much as an anesthesiologist and I'll drop out
do you have any other reasons to stay in other than money? what's gonna make you a good doctor?
You are beautiful
Thank you Hayley! So are you!!, and you have a great channel btw, even though I don't think I would live in Germany, its interesting to watch haha
I know hey... she is so beautiful
My drive is not nessarly to help someone as happy as I would be to do that aswell I just find the body really interesting
what other job gives you 300.000-400.000$/year with less stress?
hey! i'm currently studying to become a medical scientist for my undergrad degree.
Yes never give up, if some people make it then why cant it be you? IT CAN BE YOU! so do your best and go from there x
Nellah Grace thank you for the kind reply❤️
how are you doing now?
Some people are book smart and don't find studying boring especially if they know that it will help them in the future.
This is literally me!! everything you said I totally agree!
If you just love science you can always specialise in Laboratory specialities like Pathology and anything related to research.
Thank you Tera, and exactly you can totally apply it to life in general x
Idk what to do
I love your minimal aesthetic and edits, keep on going!
thank you! Its nice to have a compliment on my branding haha
i think money is a great motivation and I'm thinking of going into medicine and my parent told me to but i don't like anything else so its goooood
beastkay byt woah woah...you might want to rethink that honey
If u like it do it
Money is great motivation to join the medical profession? That's absolutely bullshit.
People will DIE on you. People will give you SHIT on you and even disrespect you while you are trying to help them. There are higher chances for sexual harassment in the medical profession. The work load is HEAVY, way more than your typical 8 hours per day job, AND you can be called in at insane hours like 2AM. Doctors in the US are actually quite underpaid and overworked due to lack of staff.
If greed/money is your only reason for trying to enter the medical profession, gtfo - and I mean that as in gtfo and save yourself the trouble. :) All the people the people trying to tell you that money is a good reason are likely stupid and/or ignorant to the realities of medical practice.
beastkay byt Candyland youre a crazy girl. People WILL die on you. if u keep saying shit.
You're one of the ignorant then. No medical professional can save/treat every patient that comes through the door, no matter how hard they try or how smart they are. People will die on you, period.
A nice informative video! 😁
I never went to Uni!
I always wanted to be a bus driver! 🚍🚏🏃♂️
After travelling and living in Australia for 3 years, I decided to fulfil my childhood ambition! 👌
wow that's awesome!! congratulations to you I hope it will be everything you wanted it to be :)
Wow. You are beautiful soul. I love bus rides 😍
My reasons for considering studying medicine and becoming a doctor :
Therefore, if one doesn't wake up every morning with the drive to promote healing, it'll burn you out no matter how smart you are
I’m torn between Med school and Business school.
what did you pick
My mother died with cancer and was an encouragement for me to help other that's why I wanted to get into the field. But now as I am into law studies I still feel that urge but don't want. To be mixed up so I'll stick with what I started
WAIT! Wait....there are other jobs that pay way more money for doing far less work and are much less stressful? What are those jobs?
LOL google 10 most paid jobs :) you'd be surprised. Not sure about the less stressful/less work bit. Point is physician isn't the only way to make money.
Also doctors are at the top of the list of suicide rates because of stress. Learned that in my abnormal psych class in college.
Don't tell people that because we need people in the medical profession.
Being non judgemental is part of becoming a doctor I don't really sense that here, a lot of assumptions not enough 2 sided views, which medical school do you go to?
the most paid job in the USA is actually linked to medicine
I can imagine, it's one of the most important jobs out there which is why it has to be a serious decision!
Nellah Grace yeah kinda, I feel all jobs are important
At the end of the money is not the reward of becoming a doctor, but the ability to help people is...
the three reasons you mentioned are some of my reasons as to why I'm considering studying medicine but I'm also considering it because I love the idea of being able to give and help people with whatever they need and now I'm honestly not sure whether I should pursue it omg please help mee
I STUDY MEDICINE FOR MONEY AND PRESTIGE!
well idk about not doing it for the money like I want to go into medicine and I do have a passion I wouldn't say it's a vocation but if the pay wasn't good I really doubt I would go waste all that time and money and stress so idk I'd say money is kinda important
I think becoming a doctor so you can help people is just stupid...
Can you do medicine because u r interested with study of medicine but u dont work hard….. or is it that hard work comes later …,,,,any one answer plzz
Of course I’d do it for money, why would I waste all that time studying for a low paying job???
To each their own hey :)
You are so right UA-cam needed to hear this. Ignore the irrelevant 410 dislikes because this helps and it's the truth❤️❤️❤️
*no I'm gonna pursue my childhood dream instead of follow the advice of a random online chick*
Great!! I hope you do pursue your dream and I wish you all the best :)
@@Dr.Nellah thank you so much, btw nice makeup
Spot on! Great video 👍😘
thank you! glad someone agrees lol
I've recently found my desire to become a doctor. I'm average at science but I'm pushing myself so hard to be above average so I can do well in my exams so I can get all of the qualifications I need and maybe more.
It's the only job I've thought of in my 15 years of existing that makes my heart warm up at the thought of my career being
you can do it!! work hard and keep pursuing it that's all you can do is your best! I wish you all the best :)
Nellah Grace thank you!💜
I mean if you have a job part of it is the money, but only if you really want to be a daughter
I wanna be a doctor because I wanna help people not for the money and I don't even know how much money they get paid
Also I love Biology and Chemistry and I really want to save people lives
I want to Study medicine for the money. Because i want to Support my Mother and Father Financilly. Why would that mean I would make a terrible doctor.
It doesn't mean you would make a terrible doctor. It's just my opinion that sometimes money won't be enough of a motivation with a career in medicine to always do the best for the patient. But it's my opinion.
Yeah ofc you need real motivation. But i get the motivation by seeing my mother and father struggle everyday. But i get your point. #nohate
That's awesome, I think those are all great reasons put together. Have you got into medical school already? I wish you all the best x
I am considering OBGYN in the future too :) Glad they are enjoying their lives that is the goal, to have people enjoying thier jobs and lives because they made the right career paths for the right reasons :)
great video ....but remember that you don't have to interact with patients if your a doctor for eg ...pathology
kayan Samuels that's true obviously it truly depends on your speciality but i think it's a good trait to have to actually care for people coz it will help lol
