I got this watch about a month ago, second-hand, and am quite pleased with it as well! €200, but the previous owner bought a Forstner ladder bracelet for it, which cost about as much as 2/3rd of the watch. Cracking little combo, which I would've never been able to justify myself. I do kinda wish Sugess leaned into the homage a bit more, the gilt on the original does pop a whole lot more. But for my money, I'm rather happy this is my first chrono. Edit: You can tell I wrote this comment before watching the full video, haha. I found some ladder bracelets on eBay, about $35. Might be worth having a gander at.
Thanks for watching. They really do. I had a Seagull 1963 years back, back when you could only get them from that seller in Germany. It lasted about 3 years, and then it started running a bit erratically. There was no point in servicing as the cost of service was double what I could buy a new one for. With these movements, I think it's best to almost think of them as disposable. You could have it serviced, of course, but unless you have a very strong sentimental attachment, it would be worth it. A big boon with sugess though is that they calibrate the movements and add addtions such as the Swan neck lever. They believe in their watches to a point they highlight it as a feature you don't do that If you don't have at least a little faith in what you're putting out.
I've heard that ST19s in Chinese watches come in different grades of quality and reliability. So be wary of buying very cheap watches with these movements, though I think Sugess watches are equipped with the 'higher grade' ST19s .
Great video! I just pulled the trigger on the chocolate dial model last night AND I found a nifty ladder bracelet to marry it with. This has been my Holy Grail combo since I don't know when! Looking forward to owning it, wearing it and enjoying it. At some point I'll buy a 'back up' should anything happen to this one, much as I have with my automatic Vakuy Rigas Paul Newman homage. I've numerous chronos in my collection, some much more expensive, but where the Sugess and Vakuy Rigas have it in spades over the others is in their genuine retro feel. I got my first serious watch, a Newmark sports model, almost sixty years ago. My Aunt bought it for me and even sprang for an Expandro Racing bracelet for it. I wore that watch for a decade or more. Never looked at another watch. Never needed another watch, until my girlfriend, now the Lady of the house, bought me my first quartz watch. The Sugess and Vakuy Rigas take me back to that time in enjoying a watch in a way that I've never been able to enjoy my more expensive watches in the preceding years. There's just something in their size and appearance that gives them character and appeal that modern watches can't match.
Yeah, I've got a Panda and I'm thrilled with it, i can live with the "eh?" bottom dial cuz you lose the date😂. If you buy the bracelet they send a strap anyway. Even the lumes OK
I hope someone can answer this, do you feel resistance while winding the watch from the start? I have had other hand wind watches and you normally find resistance when you hit the max winding, but this watch feels like that from the start, always resistance which gets stronger towards the end and the clicking is very faint. Is this normal?
It shouldn't be difficult to wind if that's what you're experiencing as the main spring winds down. When you wind, as you said, re other manual watches. You should feel minimal resistance until you're approaching full wind should be the same for this movement. I can't say what the problem is, though. Sorry.
Got the very same one on the way from the current sale. Great review, looking forward to owning this!
Thanks. You've got great taste.

Ha, I have had a look on eBay. No luck so far. You got a bargain there with the forstner included.
Thanks for the great review! Sugess makes some insanely cool homage chronographs. I’m just worried about the longevity of the movement.
