In R.D. Wingfield's radio play "Our West Ladyton Branch," produced by Glyn Dearman and featuring actors Frederick Treves and Peter Pratt, the story revolves around a peaceful Devon town that becomes the perfect setting for an unpredictable turn of events.
The main character, Carrington, played by Frederick Treves, is a bank manager recuperating from a mental breakdown. He moves to the West Ladyton branch of his bank, expecting tranquility and a fresh start. However, his recovery is soon disrupted by unexpected occurrences that challenge his assumptions about the town’s serenity.
The story unfolds through a series of engaging and often surprising events, showcasing Wingfield's knack for creating tension and intrigue. Supporting characters such as the Secretary (Kathleen Helme), Hedgeway (Lockwood West), Dunton (Sean Barrett), Fred (John Bryning), Hudson (Peter Pratt), Clewer (Fraser Kerr), Mary (Jim Simcox), and Bert (Lewis Stringer) contribute to the unfolding drama, adding depth and complexity to Carrington's journey.
Wingfield, renowned for his creation of the character Inspector Jack Frost, brings the same sharp dialogue, clear-cut characters, and clever twists to this radio play, ensuring listeners are hooked from the start. His plays often present morally ambiguous situations, surprising developments, and a constant sense of uncertainty, making "Our West Ladyton Branch" a captivating listen.

The Look of Love
@@Wendyj55 Thank you.
I wonder if Wingfield worked in a bank at some point?
I wonder if anyone could help me find a radio drama,I believe it was by r.d Wingfield.
The jist was there was an inspector investigating after a young couple committed a motoring offence. When they described the place they'd been it bore no resemblance to the present day but it was how the place looked years before. The play jumped between past and present, involved a jaguar car I believe.
Sorry for the waffle ,hope someone could help. Thanks Vince
I've been trying to find this too!! Fingers crossed someone has the answer!
Found it somehow on UA-cam.
It's called the twisted image,by James Follett.
Very r.d wingfield

@@marypoppins1118 there's so many great radio dramas out there,I always try and remember the good ones, but after a while I start to forget them it's a struggle to find em again.
I've started keeping a notebook now so I can easily locate them again.
Glad you enjoyed it lovely way to while away an hr.
@vincesmith9138 Hope I’m not speaking out of turn or saying something you already know but thought it may help? I really struggle with my memory now courtesy of cancer & chemo but find these old radio plays comforting while I’m in hospital & on my bad days but never remember their titles or the author 😂🤦🏼♀️ ! I’ve started saving the ones I’ll want to hear again to a private playlist on here & it saves the frustration of having to search for them over & over again 😆! Hope it’s a little help (& thanks for the suggestion for my next listen 😊) x
Wonderful evocative English period English drama, though the Americanised AI image is quite comical.
