- Rethinking the way you recycle is the focus of a CBC News series: Reduce, Reuse and Rethink. It explores why Canadian communities are at a turning point when it comes to recycling and exploring ways to do it better. Much of the reason is because of a decision by China to crack down on foreign waste. About half of the world's recyclables were being sent to China, but China stopped importing them. Now, many Canadian municipalities are stockpiling materials because they have nowhere to send them.

in my opinion only REDUCING makes sense .
Ok
Deal with your own waste. Don't send them oversea.
Ontario must start bottle depos so people can make money from what they throw away. I spent 2 days picking up empties brought them to bc and made 4000.00 bucks cashing in. Ontario must do same. This help's those in need of money.
ok i cant be the only one here because of an online school assignment. anyone else?
Me to
Clean Up, Recycle, do your part, spread the love!
@
Scary to think of how much waste were producing, period. It's great that BC is doing well recycling-wise, but what would be greater would be if we reduced the amount of things we dispose of at all.
Part of my homework to watch this ;-;
Same
It's not that the world cant find a use for hard recyclables, it chooses not too.
STOP ALL TAXES from all 3 levels of governments on used and expired merchandises, parts, repairs services, refurbishment services, and transportation for ALL USED PRODUCTS.
Also add tax credit for those with receipts of reuse refurbished products to reward users and to encourage them in the future.
All environment Minister of Canada & the world should take note for this friendly non greedy pro action plan for overall greener planet.
Canada needs to be responsible and starts to deal with our own garbage, instead complaining one who doesn’t want our craps
Go minimalist and use reusable water bottle/straws/cups/shopping bags....
My trash pick up service won't give me a straight answer about ridgid plasic. What if it's a plastic chunk from things like a vacuum cleaner. I think it's usually ABS, Hipps or Pc abs I always come across.
I assume they have a bin for it they sort it into. I guess, maybe, oh well. lol.
Sue the companies creating the problem or send it up into space
Lol space would not solve it. Infact we are already having that problem with spaceship remaining orbiting the earth because of how the things wont go away it would continue to pile up to the point were we cant send ships into space
90% of consumer platic needs to be banned.
I like plastic.
Refuse first! Say no to plastic and purchase with your own containers and bags.
But trash creates and sustains jobs. If you skip the packaging there is less work for people both in creating and disposing of it.
@@mysterybuyer3738 People can sell more reusable items such as tote bags, bamboo straws, canteens etc
@@fybandeatpasta.0241 No, that leaves out a lot of future work for people.
@@mysterybuyer3738 ok but it saves the planet we live on maybe stop creating machinery that take away peoples jobs
@@fybandeatpasta.0241 People reduced into poverty by less economic opportunity isn't saving anything.
People would not believe how much plastic waste I generate. It's a big problem because I can't even give it away.
I don't generate it on purpose but I am a metal recycler and plastic is attached to everything. Most of the metal needs this crap removed unless it will go to shred later.
Look at a website called redcycle
Thats because they just toss it in the ocean.
I live 2 hours from Ottawa. Our garbage goes in a compactor truck here and they ship it to Ottawa to be burned and make electricity. I am glad I don't live down wind of that smoke, but it seems like that makes the most sense for this low grade waste. Also let's get paper bags, cups and plates back. Then we can burn or compost it
People are so ignorant about burning trash...
just build your own god dam recycle system. And trust me, you’re gonna like it! Cause the money is really really good. Otherwise why we doing it for so long???
Manage Manage Manage and manage! And that's it another manage the scam huh!
I think we will stop it but I’m sad that you said China what what what what they are using plastic paper I want to stop it to you but I am from China listen to me OK🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬😡😡😡😡
Burn it in coal fired Power plants! Clean as a whistle and CHEAP! Yah Friggen Cons!
Brent Mcfadden burning plastic creates pollution and it doesn't solve the problem. We continue wasting materials without need.
@Alexandre Andrejow So what? Canada needs this "global warming" thing. If the temperatures rose 5C Canada would make millions upon millions more in agriculture + the Prairies would be a bit more hospitable.
CANADASOCCERMAN13 Canada doesn't exists alone. You won't have anyone to sell grains and legumes of the people are dying in the hottest countries. And the prairies are already very dry. Climate change can make it even worse.
The people from the hottest countries are already poor, it wouldn't make much difference. Climate change can mean everything from global cooling to global warming to overall higher precipitation faster winds etc. but you are right that global warming would most likely dry out the prairies even more, but hey we have extreme amount of freshwater supplies...
CANADASOCCERMAN13 if the poor people gets richer, it's more opportunity and mutual benefit than improved agriculture in just one side of the world. Also, Canada has risks of droughts and water shortages.
