      Ok hear me out: get tights and then cut the legs off. Then use them with a garter belt! I have a uhhh round ass that never fights into one size fits all tights AND I'm tall, so this option works for me!

      I've seen some very nice pretty ones on etsy, which usually have a pretty good size variation.
      And a historical way of preventing the tights from slipping is either garters, or shorts. Like of the lacy bloomer variety

      Hot glue them, maybe? But you might have to hand wash + air dry to prevent the glue from coming off.
      Or a perhaps you could clip-on a cute bow. You might even be able to drape lace with safety pins.
      Ahhhh, I'm just trying to throw out ideas for those struggling

    Don't forget crowns, tiaras, vintage hats from thrift stores/antique shops, as well as pretty barrettes. I also love Russian kokoshnik style hats for OTT Lolita. I was told the reason KC became associated with headbows was because there used to be a Japanese manga series about a girl named Katyusha who always had a big red headbow on. Evidently it was popular enough for the word katyusha to start being the word for headbows.

    I'd love if you could work with Holly and make a video about how to style lolita in differently for people of different heights. There's not a lot of resources for taller lolitas.

    • @maartje176
      @maartje176 4 роки тому +2

      mintjaan I’m not extremely tall, about 178cm, but some things that could help are underskirts, strap extenders and some minor alterations if the dress doesn’t have straps with buttons.
      Buying longer dresses helps as well, metamorphose dresses are usually longer and indie brands that offer costum sizing can make the skirt part longer on request.
      Though most people don’t care if your dress doesn’t exactly reach your knees.

    • @bunnymactavish2415
      @bunnymactavish2415 4 роки тому +3

      Something I like to do is using tights instead of Otks. It removes the gap between the dress and the socks and provide an illusion that the dress is longer than it is. Also underskirts. I don’t have one myself but i hope to get one in the future.

    • @abbeylawford4716
      @abbeylawford4716 4 роки тому +2

      I hate how underskirts look on me (183cm), so I only buy dresses that are long enough now. I wear classic, so I have a lot of IW dresses, which tend to come in a long size, and they’re pretty inexpensive on the secondhand markets. I’ve noticed that some OTKs are stretchier than others, IW’s OTKs tend to be stretchier and longer than BTSSB’s. However, most of the time I just assume an OTK will be a UTK on me, and I don’t really care if my knees are showing anyway. I would recommend tights, but cute ones usually wouldn’t fit me due to my height, so be wary of that. If you want simple sheerish stockings, I have a striped pair from Target that I pair with more gothic coords and they’re quite nice.

    As a classic lolita I always struggle with finding jewel-tone accessories to go with main pieces, especially that beautiful emerald green color used in Classic Fairy Tales from AP or that new Teatime at Grandma's print from Lady Sloth. I guess I could always make my own since I can sew, but it would be nice to have some already made options too

    This is a nice spread. However, I would say that whether a hair accessory works also depends on your hairstyle. Not everyone opts for a fringe, not everyone goes for long hairstyles (whether natural or in wigs), and some accessories work better with those than others. The short version is that it's all about balance :P

Lindy bop (a mock vintage/rockabilly company that's quite big in the uk) I know does print and plain ones in a variety of colours and fabrics (I.e. red velvet). And don't forget you can sew on the fabric edging of ballet flats or even through the fake suede/matte fabric

    Katyusha became the word for a headband much like we might say "alice band" after alice in wonderland wearing one. A song about a girl named Katyusha (which is the diminutive or cute nickname of Katherine) became famous in Japan and the singer apparently wore headbands and sellers would advertise the items as "just like Katyusha" or something to that effect.(apparently because I've also read that she never wore a headband, sellers just coined it as though she did? It was 1914 so I suppose people heard the song and didn't know whether she wore one or not)

    boater hat tip - if you want to use your natural hair if you tie a little ponytail or bun just on the inside of your hat, you can put your hat so it covers it and use the hair tie as an anchor for a hat pin or bobby pin! i find it really helps to stop my boater from slipping backwards, but you do have to do the hairband pretty tight!

    another tip for securing your headpieces: sewing wig clips to it! I do this with my hats all the time. It's a more permanent option than using pins but it will stay IN PLACE!
    Edit: this is also for ppl whose hair texture doesn't always cooperate with traditional pins XD

    Hi. I am not a lolita, but I love your videos. I use your videos as a source of ideias and inspiration for my own fashion style. I wear the New look siluette created at the end of the 40's by Dior. He was inspired by eduardian dresses to create the siluette.
    I started having so much Fun in my fashion fallowing lolita tips on peaticoats, matching socks, wearing blouses under dresses with no sleeves and paying more attention to my headpices to balance out the shape of the skirts.
    Seeing the thought process lolitas put on their coords is amazing.
    I understand the differences between the two fashions but understanding the similarities can open up a New creative way to wear the things we love.
    May I suggest some things from my fashion to yours?
    Bird cage veils with pearls would look amazing, you can find these veils in all colors to match coords.
    Sailor hats, can also be amazing and I think you already own one.
    Halo hats from the 60's can also look adorable.
    Slanted cartwheel hats with flowers underneth the higher point of the brim would also look adorable.
    A pillbox hat would substitute a french berret nicely.
    Since hats were made to match dresses they are found in many different colors.
    I am having Fun looking for pices for my Cherry, Strawberry, navy and cat print dresses and looking for watching more lolita videos. I hope you don't mind the suggestions ( It is all they are anyway) and I hope you don't mind being my inspiration for another fashion. Thanks for all the advice.😘

    the half bonnet thing: i wore a similar headpiece for historical re-enactment of mid Victorian London, and it was called a scuttle. it was a bonnet brim with a lace curtain hanging down the back, and lay much flatter than a conventional bonnet. tho seeing what lolitas call bonnets, they're all scuttles! but thats just me being a historical costume nerd, so. also all you're lacey headbands are morning caps and i LOVE them.

    Straw (hats or the material in general) react really well to steam so you can actually steam in flourishes or bend like you we describing! Just put it on a wig head (not a human head!) steam it until malleable and then tie/pin it into place and let completely cool before releasing! That can help spruce up any boater/straw hat! It can also be used to make a hat wider by steaming it and then putting it onto larger wig head! These tricks also work for felt!

    I definitely agree with everyone saying socks/tights are hard. I think a lot of us plus sized girls just go with basic white frilly socks and call it a day. Tights are a bit like headdresses in that I don't usually see sizes given? or they're left pretty vague, so I can just never risk it. I know of one site (welovecolors.com) that will do plus sized solid colour tights, but nothing else really suited to sweet or classic Lolita. Any resources you have or can gather through your network would be great!

    The part I struggle with most are shoes!!! I can't seem to find good pretty shoes that don't make my feet feel like they're entering a new circle of hell after 10 minutes (unless theyre really sad boring ones)..
    Oh, and after that is also when wearing a short sleeved blouse, my arms just feel so.. nakey...? And wristcuffs can sometimes look rly off?? Anyway thank u for ur service to the community, what would we do without these easy to digest videos honestly..
    EDIT: literally just saw the shoe video in the sidebar oops ignore that

    This is kinda funny to me since I LOVE buying hats and lolita is a great excuse to wear elaborate hats lol

    I am not someone who typically likes hats or bows on my head, so it is very very unlikely for me to find something I like. I thought having a bow would fix this, but with the fact I look terrible in fringes and personally prefer side bangs, a bow turns out to look very out of place, oddly big, and doesn't frame my head in a very flattering way. Plus, Smaller bows don't usually balance the dress itself, cause me to look like a poodle, or don't show up at all because they are behind my head. So my natural inclination is berets as they do look decent on me... But I hate wearing hats and it never feels natural to wear a beret. I do own a bonnet, however it is for cosplay and not lolita so I'm unsure of how construction may or may not be different and if it is one or the other then I'm worried it may be the same as berets. How should I deal with this or overcome it?

    If you have a more regal themed coord, could you make a crown work as a headpiece? 🧐

    I just wish that lolitas put more effort into their wigs idk as somebody who really likes wigs I think these beautiful dresses need better hair than synthetic but I know hair is superrrrr expensive

    Sounds ridiculous but I always am hesitant about buying blouses. How will it look underneath the dress? How do I know this cream or black will match the cream or black on the dress? Just two things I think about when I look for some.

    ,,kachusha" sounds a bit similar to ,,kaczusia" in polish, which means ,,small duck" 🤗
