Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is recruiting wholetime firefighters while challenging the myths around being a firefighter.
Firefighter Lyndsey Gymer was told that only men can be firefighters.

“Apparently, people say only men can be firefighters.
“Apparently, being a firefighter isn’t the job for a woman.
“But that couldn’t be anymore wrong.
“It doesn’t matter what gender you are, anyone can make a good firefighter.
“We all have different skills and that makes us a better team.
“So I want every little girl to know that when they grow up, they can be a firefighter too, just like me.”
