I've started my first layout, and I've watched many professional modelers demonstrating track balasting scenery, but this is by far my favorite one. Great work!
This whole demonstration shows one thing for sure : There is no way things can be done quickly ! It needs time, material and passion. That's the professional way to do things right. And that's why the result is awesome and unique.
Thank you so much for a really engaging video and showing your skill, there’s lots of ideas to take away for the day I upgrade my basic layout. The job you’ve done is fantastic! Wishing the best from London : )
I FOR REAL WAS JUST THINKING SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE A VIDEO OF THIS! I am going to use this on my small shelf layout! Thank you for showing us your process
Looks great! Taking the time and effort to "model" track work truly pays off when taking photos later on, and you've got it down pat. In addition to removing random ties, I also take my nippers and cut off the end of a tie here and there on an angle so they are not all uniform length. Also, I leave a little unballasted space between random ties here and there and fill with some static grass pressed in. I tried the Woodland Scenics rail painters, and they work great at first, until the pen tips get torn up. Your paint brush techniques is just as good, if not better. I have to try painting the rail plates rust like you did, that adds a lot. Like you said, more than one way to skin a cat, but that begs the question: Why are people skinning cats?
Just discovered this video and your channel. Watched the whole video and then subscribed! I've never done any ballast or scenery work before. Think i'm going to use this to help me get started.
Great video! I clean the tops of the rails as I paint small sections with a paper towel before it dries so don't have to use any abrasives on the rail. I also just use Elmers or equivalent to attach track to cork/foam/etc so I can easily remove it when needed. Track is quite pricey to replace when modify the layout. I enjoyed your cutting some of the ties. Will look great on old sidings, etc. Plan on following your method for that. Again, nice video with tips/techniques. Multiple ways to accomplish various tasks on the layout and I enjoy learning new/different techniques, thanks for sharing!
That's some amazing detail work! I got some great tips that I can use for a few sections of my layout that I want to hyper-detail. Now to subscribe and watch the rest of your content...
I just found your channel. I enjoyed your trestle bridge build. This was a good video too. Building these practice pieces is a great way to try new techniques without the risk of ruining the layout. They are good for displaying rolling stock too.
What's good man, awesome rail weathering method! Start with a spray amd follow up with that rust tracks color, I like! Subscribed to ya, keep up the good work!!!!
Great tutorial on super-detailing track. I love your "this is just how I do it" attitude. Question, what do you use for dirt in the part you missed recording?
Hey Greg so I use backyard dirt mixed with some sand/dark earth colored grout. Also depends on the look I'm going for I'll sift it through a stocking... Thanks as always brotha.
I've been using a 50 - 50 water to white glue for 50 years and the result is ballast as hard as concrete. I also like Boomer a lot. I just don't spend the money for Mat Medium.
I have used that ballast mix recently and wish I'd done it more on other parts of the layout. I like your touches but on a larger layout you'd be doing only that. As Boomer says, that is why he doesn't build large layouts anymore. You just can't satisfy your creative side.😆

Just found your channel, I think it’s my new favorite model railroading channel
Hey mate this was an impressive piece of work, keep the flame of crafting burning bright! Cheers for the land down under. 👍🇦🇺

Nice studio set up! The lighting looks really cool
Love the broken ties look. That’s how a lot of the rails in Wisconsin looks. The winters really pulverize them.
Absolutely beautiful! Like a detailed painting using color and texture.10/10. Stay awesome!
Wow! You’ve introduced me to more products and techniques in 15 minutes than most videos do in twice the time. Thanks!
Loved this Thank you. I’ll definitely be using some of your ideas. Cheers Ray

Looks amazing
The random oil streaks next to the track is fantastic
lol... love the intro
Very nicely done, perfect look for an old seldom used track.

Oh, man! You're a genius! I never would have thought to remove a tie or rwo and then skew them. That's brilliant, and exactly what I needed! Subbed.
Thank you WH on the way you weather your tracks on a Diorama!

Thanks a bunch. I've used the dirt from the yard and grout, but never mixed. Something new to try.
dope!

Dont discard that chunk. Nice display set up for a weathered car sittin in the elements.
