I've been a singer, pianist and musician for 27 years. I really appreciate songs like this! It's nice to see a song told from the male perspective. You get lot of songs that talk about how a woman has had her heart broken, etc. but it's not often that you get to see the male side of how love hurts. Sadly some women see emotion/feelings, in a man, as weakness and it becomes cause to leave said man. Not ALL women.. But some.
I really don’t think it’s that serious, or even really about a relationship between a man and a woman. Relationships don’t have to last forever or be about “love” to be valid, sometimes it’s just about spending a tender evening with someone.

This song makes me think of two people. 1) My dad who was a good dad to me for a few years, until he decided to have an affair. He’s not in my life anymore 2) my bestfriend, I’ve known her my whole life and she means everything to me. I have to move 7 hours away because of my dad. He isn’t letting us live in this house anymore. even if my dad doesn’t even live with us. I’m worried she’s gonna make other friends and forget about me, or at least not be my bestfriend anymore. She already had to move a few minutes away 2 years ago and she met another girl their and the girl thinks her and my best friend are bestfriends. She has told me I’m her bestfriend, but I’m worried she won’t feel that way once I’m gone. I’m at a really hard time in my life.
