A very underrated guitar maker for the earlier models,my friend has a Hondo LP & it's a late 70s all original & boy do the dimarzio pups sound good,the sustain is eternal. I own a mid 80s Hondo Fatboy which is the Gibson L5 artchtop copy,freakin awesome guitar with set neck triple binding with super tone's that are out of this world,a proper high end well crafted beauty. If you see a Hondo get it play it as you'll be very surprised at how good they play. Great video Dave,you are the master of strings ❤️
I love that Les Paul! I remember watching the videos of the restoration on Dr. Nerd’s channel. That guitar is from the early 80s. The diamond inlay is a disguised “S” for Samick. Lots of history right there! I have several Hondo II Les Pauls and they get played daily. *I didn’t realize those 2 guitars were a bonded pair, what a great story! 1 original owner, that’s amazing. “Nothing is straight about this guitar, and that is what makes it gorgeous.” I totally get it! **The bolt on neck was for shipping purposes. Easier to pack and shipped from Korea, assembled when it got to it’s destination. I have some buzzy frets on my Hondo Les Pauls as well… adds to the character! Great job cleaning up the burst, wow! Awesome playing as always.
I would like for Dave's insight... Wood timber, pickup design,brass trem, volute and possibly vintage tall thin Frets, on a 62 S-types theS-type Chapman or what ever Dave though would be a winner I'd be in guitar center ASAP
If you can find a set-neck hondo LP, then it was made in the same factory in japan that were making the gibson LP imports in the late 70's /early 80's. They are more rare and more expensive than the bolt neck hondos but still a lot cheaper than a real gibson import form the same era (late 70's/Early 80's). They are very close to the gibsons in that same factory except cheaper pickups. I was able to get a set-neck one last year and I had new pick-ups put in and it is great.
My very first guitar was a Cherry Sunburst Hondo Les Paul copy. As a teenager in the eighties, I got rid of it and got a Kramer Striker. If only I knew then what I know now….

Has a one piece Maple Neck/Fretboard that I have never seen before or since on any guitar. Recently got it out of Long time storage, put strings on it and it plays amazingly. Have seen a couple of Hondo's show up on "Marketplace" and wanted to get them SO bad, but too far away. One day I will definitely buy another Hondo. Cheers from Australia.

I've got the h395( es 335 copy) brown dot .first guitar I ever bought in early 1980s still have it but pots and tail finally went fixed them .still love it ..... Would love to know more about them . It has a set neck well made .

It looks like a 78-80 around that time best way to tell the year is in the pickup cavities there will be distinct markings unless they were sanded away you could check the neck cavity for some markings.cheers dave
Even though the sanded back is not my preference I love stuff like that. It tells a story for the guitar and you can tell it was played and its been around for a long time.
hondo were origanally made by tokai,but only short while,then production was moved to samick korea,sure the hondo 2 is samick, i have a lp copy with nothing on headstock,was my only electric guitar during my squatting days,set neck,tulip tuners,gibson style open book headstock,mahogany,scarf joint and heavy,no markings,no idea what is is,set neck says its not a cheapie cheap model.bought for 80 quid in the late 80s from cash convertor.fell off stand,laquer crack,but still plays fine,so its not worth anything,so no point selling,but i like it anyway.i also have a 92 gibson lp studio,gold hardware,ebony neck,sure the hardware is better,but i prefer to play the mystery lp copy, guy in shop said it was a vox,so i take it he meant univox,then other guy told me it was one of the ibanez mij 70s models,sent to stores without logo,so store like grants scotland could put their own logo on,who knows,the mystery lp seems to have more growl than the gibson,and easy action for running up and down the neck,here she is ua-cam.com/video/4IL_DTI6oSo/v-deo.html

There's a video Mr. Dave does where he goes through his three pedal boards (which are all relatively similar)... I beleive its called, "The pedals I use and how I use them." I've watched that particular video at least four or five times. Obviously, there's an amazing jam and then Mr. Dave goes through each of his pedals, how he sets them and where he places them in the chain. Great video, very informative. He also does a video for pretty much every pedal he uses individually and does a more in depth breakdown of settings and when/how he uses them. They're all great

i have a westfield with split coils on both that i lowered and straightened .(gold top ..it really is solid and wonderful).. it plays like butter ... i stopped playing it a year or so ago when i bought a MCP satch ibanez ... it plays better and has a strange pop on the volume pot ... removes the treble loss on rolling off the volume ande the pull on the tone pot single coils both pups regardless the westfield is an amazing guitar and i dont play it now ... was wondering ... how many guitars is too many from the point of view of being familiar with the instrument ... but having 36 other instruments and 5 keyboards and an upright bass and a handsonic and reaper and 30 odd pages of VST should nt be an issue

Pretty sure Dave used his pedalboard into his orange Orange CR 120 in this video. You can usually tell by looking for which amp has a cable in the input. He never seems to leave cables in the amps he doesn't use at the moment 👍

The Hondo ll used to have Di Marzio pickups as standard, which was a big selling point.
Those are Dimarzio in there. They switched to their own pickups in '84.

I have a blue Strat Hondo 80's, took the whammy off. Replaced it with a Locking Floyd Rose. Sound awesome.

I had a Hondo Explorer around 1980 or so. I loved that guitar. Sold it because I am stupid, UGH
