Mores Law said that AMD is delaying the launch of the RX 8000 series for next year because they have a large amount of unsold RX 7800 and RX 7900 series graphics cards. He also says that the price of the 7800X3D went up because they reduced or stopped the production of the 7000 series processors. Because they switched production to 8000 series processors. The 8800X3D is expected to be released soon.
Your timestamp titles are wrong. By the way, the real reason why AMD skipped the High End this gen is because they need the CoWoS allocation at TSMC for MI300 family. Not to mention that PS5 Pro is RDNA 4.
@@delfinigor First off, the new Ryzen are 9000 series. Second off, MLID is an idiot. Lastly, if AMD is to do chiplet GPUs at the moment, they will prioritize MI300.
I'm hoping the AMD RX 8000 Series GPU's will be released in about 4 - 6 Months, because i don't know how much long er I can hang on with my 'Inferior RX7600XT GPU' ??
I'm looking at X870/E boards though am not sure I will build again. Still on 12900KF 4090 48gb DDR5. I can build again but am not sure when, curious how the 9800X3D performs (still maining Nobara Linux) and if the new X870 boards are better. Kind of a wait and see if AM5 gets better reviews.

5090 rumored with 32GB and 512 bit bus... 5080 rumored with 16GB and 256 bit bus. They're absurdly arrogant now, they're genuinely only making the 5090 amazing (and ridiculously price) while making the rest of the product stack crippled.
They have the market by the nuts bro, just like Intel vs AMD before 2017. Better shut up and be patient until some company saves us... I will personally keep my RTX 3060 for an extra 5/6 years at the very least.
@@carlosrieum1526 If it comes with 24gb, I'd prolly buy one depending upon price. Really wanted the 5090, cause I'm doing a new build with the Ultra 9 285k... but between rumored pricing upwards of $3000 and that 600w... hard pass. I honestly feel like I might be looking at an AMD card if things don't look better and I haven't touched AMD since 2008.
Nice 👍 You can even buy a 4k monitor later on because your PC is probably a bit bored for a while :D that 144Hz in 1440p is a easy target for these prime CPU and GPU 💪
I understand where you're coming from, @orion9k But I'd argue it depends on the type of games they play. Personally I'd push those frames in esports titles easily. But when you play AAA titles on high/ultra many games stay under 144 fps. Although getting something with actually usable HDR is a good point. But if you use the computer for more than gaming, before buying OLED I'd wait for the burn in to improve or a different tech to become affordable that fixes that issue entirely with great latency and HDR
6600XT but i'm staying in 1080p resolution. so i'm happy with a decent midrange GPU. although my GPU can rock a 1440p monitor but i got enough space for 2 24in monitor on my table. and I'm fine having 24in monitors.
My prediction is that the 5080 and 5090 will have "reasonable" MSRPs but oopsies, we didn't produce enough of them so there's a supply shortage and the price is going up 20%
good choice i bought a 3070 ti on release day for $850 and sold it within a year, it was the only GPU ive ever regreted purchasing in 30+ years of pc gaming
@@RedWolfenstein Its really not, 8gb cards are literally unusable. Why do you think so many people got rid of 3070s/3080s so quickly? Even 12gb is becoming obsolete
Bad choices, that's why. DLDSR+DLSS visual difference is colossal. I would take several hits to raw performance to not be stuck with FSR and a basic supersampler like VSR.
Personally went with the 7900xtx this gen because 1 - AMD seems to age better and it takes me forever to upgrade. The last few generations of AMD GPUs aged really well considering their higher Vram... 2 - When I saw the potential FIRE risk from the 4090 I really didn't care how awesome the card was, and it made me question some other build quality of the whole generation. So I went with AMD. It has been a really solid card so far, and I guess we will see how well it ages. AMD has a lot to catch up for in the AI space and I am my guess is the 7900xtx will age pretty well.
Jason. I was a person who always thought that NVIDIA was what people needed for gaming because I thought it was the best choice. My son bought a mid-range computer with AMD-based CPU and GPU. How wrong I was. He spent about EUR 2,000 on a computer without a monitor. And now the best part: To be able to achieve the same gaming results on INTEL and NVIDIA, I would have to spend 200 to 250 euros more
Nvidia being stingy with vram is nothing new, their 970 technically had 4GB but effectively it was 3.5GB and a lot of consumers weren’t getting their performance advertised. For the games most people play, AMD is the obvious choice in terms of value and performance
I’m super happy running 1440p ultra on everything while getting over 100 fps on my 7800xt when I had to spend 100 or 200$ more to match everything on NVIDIA
I feel like NVIDIA is withholding the VRAM on their GPUs because they want people to upgrade their GPU more often they decided the 1080ti has done more to stop them selling more GPUs than anything else and they sure do t want to repeat that “mistake”
I am so behind the times now.. I bought a 2017 Mustang GT with only 8,909 miles on her about a year ago and haven't played or bought any games since. truthfully I stopped gaming for a while prior. I have a 5900X 6800XT combo on a Decent AM4 B550 ASRock Board, in a Phanteks P500A case and have been good with high settings, 4K 60hz gaming to this day.. yeah some of the Newer games I have to go from Ultra to High settings. Or a mix of Medium to High settings.. Like Hogwarts was the last game I paid for and it played great in 4K on high settings, I can't go ultra maxed out 200 FPS but so what. It's All Just A Game... But Finally none of this stuff is cheap anymore.. Back in the Day a Top tear GPU was at the most $300 buck's and now people are paying anywhere from $500 to $2000 plus just for a GPU.. It's nutz.. Anyway I will always have a love for PC's and gaming but I'm done spending over the top money for video games.. No more..
Im just about to build 7800X3D, 4070 ti super, 360mm aio, 2tb crucial p5, ddr5 6000mh cl30, msi b650S wifi ax and msi 850w gold 80+, with a dual chamber case with 7 fans for £1750 not bad!
I built my first gaming rig over the last holiday season. Your videos were very helpful in determining what to build. Almost a year later, I have zero regrets. I went with a 7900xtx, 7800x3d, gskill 32gb ddr5 6000 cl30 ram,msi b650 edge mobo, lian li dynamic evo case, 7 nf-a12x25 fans, lt720 AIO, 2 and 4 tb gen 4 ssd, corsair rm1000x psu. My first game was Skyrim nolvus v5. I can't wait to play v6 this holiday season!
I 100% agree with your belief on recommending AMD over Invidia. Also, would i never be able to, morally, support a company who is insidious. Funny thing is that "invidia" means "envy, jealousy, grudge, ill-will, hatred".....no thank you.
Fluid motion frames has been a game changer for me, going from like 75-90 fps with ultra graphics to about 150 fps just makes you not wanna upgrade your gpu.
Daniel Owen did a survey on his channel and he found that 88% do not care about upscaling whatsoever. 92% do not care about raytracing either. So it is nice to see that this channel is also confirmed that as well with it's own survey. Nobody cares about DLSS/FSR/XeSS. Now let's address the FSR vs DLSS question. FSR and DLSS are virtually indistinguishable at a 4k base resolution. DLSS is the one that looks better at any resolution below that....1440p and 1080p for example but you will have to pixel peep as he said in this video to really find those differences.
Do keep in mind that most tech channel communities are full of self sampling and selection bias. People watching these channels are no way indicative of the average consumer.
90% of the people who follow PC tech sites don't care about DLSS/Ray Tracing, then 80% of buyers purchase Nvidia... because it has "superior DLSS and ray tracing." It's good to be "the king."
I really hope AMD does something interesting on the mid-low range, cuz by the lastest rumors of the RTX 50 series, it looks that the 5080 would have half the specs of the 5090 wich would mean that the rest of the lineup would be cutdown GPUs like on the 40 series(wouldnt be suprised to see a 5060 with 8GB or 5070 with 12GB), being AMD there could "force" Nvidia to at least release 5060S,5070S,5080S with better prices.
The best deals of the year is during the week just after Christmas when January hits all the companies do inventory. After Christmas, they have one week to clear their 2024 inventory and that week is always the best prices. The year and numbers and inventory for the past year means a lot to a company.
glad you said something about testing. while i do like the videos its pretty silly to think anyone would notice a 15% uplift let alone a 5% one. people put way too much stock on the visuals graphs rather than real world use

@@Generationalwealth94 That's what I did. I had a rx6600xt paired with my Frankenstein mom's office PC that I put 16 gigs of DDR3 and an i5 4590 in. Now ryzen 7700x and 32 gigs DDR5. Difference is very noticeable, especially in games.
I couldn't wait for holiday sales and ordered my parts last week, finally built my first gaming PC since 2006 yesterday. Went with 7900gre over 4070 super. Time will tell if that was the right decision, but for now it works great. Your videos helped me a lot, both in choosing the parts and putting it all together, followed your building guide and got it right first try! Thank you Jason!
Thank you! Everything is working great, jumping from a 15" laptop screen to 27" gaming monitor is amazing! I'm still researching all the overclocking options to squeeze the most out of my Ryzen 7700 and 7900gre, but for now even the stock settings are plenty fast and smooth.
I bought the XFX 6950 XT a year ago for $699 and It's amazing! I run all games in Native res on ultra preset and with Future Frame Gen when available. The monitor i use is 1440p 165hz and i've had no issues using a AMD card. AMD is the new gpu king.
I'm looking for a good GPU to run the new Monster Hunter Wilds in 1440p, I'm not afraid of buying used. I need this upgrade before the end of fedruary 2025. I would like to do this a cheap as possible my current sights are set on a RX 6800 used. Should I wait for prime day or after the holiday season when people are selling their old GPUs or should I hold out for RX 8000 serise to release and get a good deal on a 7000 serise. (Nvidia is an option for me but budget is king here)
I'm actually in this exact same boat. I want to play Wilds at 1440p, and I'm looking to get most or all of the parts either around the holidays, or based on sales due to other product launches.
I have a new* RX6800 I just used in an AM4 build, I'm also looking forward to play MH wilds. Those requirements are crazy, even in the " Recommended " you'll get 60 FPS AFTER you enable FSR / DLSS ( and not even in high settings if I'm understanding it correctly ).... Hear a lot of people comparing those specs to Dragons Dogma 2.
Of course, you will not see the difference between fsr and dlss at 4k since the base resolution is high enough for fsr to work well. But using fsr at 1440p, you will noticing the difference. Especially at 1080p.
I liked your response to the fsr/dlss/value question! You had enough respect for the asker to really go in detail and give a thorough answer. FWIW my anecdotal experience matches up with your answer too. I have a 1440 ultrawide and i prefer to run at native rendering. My 7900xtx delivers better than 4080 fps in the games i play, and i spent $200 less on it than i would have needed to spend on a 4080, even though i bought on release in December of 22 and got a premium version. I'm baffled that amd is still such a small segment of the market given the value.
Small note for budget builders: on the used market, you can get a 3070 for $250 all day now, while I've had a hard time finding a 6800 NON xt for under $300
I'm so glad you made this video about the amd over nvidia recommendations, I bought my first amd card a couple of years back , wanted the 12g 3080 but it sold out in my cart so I went with the 6950xt which was actually 60$ cheaper turns out was the best decision I've made , more performance for the same or less money is a no brainer. I look at it this way unless nvidia drops prices , I like nvidia, but unless I buy a 4090, I'm likely to choose the nvidia alternatives. In my opinion, dlss over fsr is not worth almost 60 to 100$ different.
Great video and you spoke so much truth! My RX6950XT is still going strong. I am shooting for a year into the next generation AMD RX cards before I consider an upgrade. Until then i am going to enjoy flawless 2k gaming at high fps.
As someone who uses cards from both companies. Rx 6800 and rtx 4070 Super. I agree with hardware unboxed, daniel owen and digital foundry that dlss is far better than fsr. You dont have to zoom in to see the difference. Thats done in videos because of youtube compression and frame rates. You can clearly see the disocclusion artifacts, ghosting and shimmering that fsr has. Its the same issues that taa has, but amplified. DLSS quality at 1440p and 4k looks better than native with taa in modern games. Or atleast what we call native. As we never actually see the native base render. It always go through temporal image reconstruction, post processing, denoising, overlays ect before it ever gets to our screens. And that base render isnt the only thing that goes into the dlss image reconstruction. It also uses geometric depth, motion vectors, ect. It basically comes down to if a few filters selected by hand can compete with hardware accelerated AI reconstruction trained with machine learning. Also far more games that force RT or have upscaling in the recommended speca then there are games that need 12gb of vram at 1440p. Sure a few games you can force over 12gb with ultra settings, rt and at native resolution. But even path traced Cyberpunk at 1440p max settings dlss quality with ray reconstruction uses under 10gb of vram. Using the rx 6800 made me reailze how overstated the vram hysteria is. If i forced it to use over 12gb the game would be so demanding that i only got like 20fps anyway. Using realistic settings to get atleast 60fps i never got close to using (not allocating) 12gb.
I think you and many other have watched these videos and are convinced you'd see the difference, but I think in practice you wouldn't. Maybe I'm wrong and you can, and there are certainly differences, but I think in use the nobody is going to really notice the difference between dlss and fsr without looking with a magnifying glass or having 2 gpus testing side by side all the time. I also think the vram is more a case of wanting more for the money they're charging, which I agree with, I don't think you should pay $400-500 for a GPU with less than 16gb.
I bought my 7700XT a few months back open box at $350 and its been amazing with my 5800X (I'll upgrade when AM6 comes out cuz it's still running amazing). I love keeping up to date with the pc market and got the itch to update my setup and ended up buying a OLED ultrawide. I'm excited to see how the pc market changes over the next few months but will be watching from the sidelines.
AMD offers good GPUs but people are scared to buy them. I know this because I was one of "those people" before replacing my RTX 3070 for a 7900 XT. After 18 months, I could not be happier with the 7900 XT. No more VRAM problem, very stable with the current gen of drivers and the Adrenaline software is just great (got rid of Afterburner which is a good thing).
Nice to see a youtuber tech channel that reads and reacts to the comments. Saying that a schooling session was given on the topic of amd vs nvidia and raw frame/vram advantages, but facts are facts even your polls show this.
When you are upscaling from 1440p to 4K, the differences between FSR and DLSS are probably their least noticeable. I think what everybody is up in arms about is how FSR doesn't really upscale the lower end stuff as well. And really that's their target market. So a more complete answer would be something like "Rendering native on the low end is a better deal with AMD and rendering with upscaling on the high end the difference is minimal."
I have a 6800XT and to be honest with you. I Love it, and i have no regrets! I bought it in (late) Dec. 2022 and paid $550 for it. This thing will go for two more years (or longer) with no problem. I did my research on computer gaming including with Jason here. I paired it with a 5800X3D cpu on ROG Strix B550 pro WIFI MB. I went all in on AM4 and my system works as well or better than i wanted or expected. I tip my cap to PC Builder for they're advice and guidience, thank you Sir and Ma'am!!
Generally agree with everything you said. A few arguments don’t follow. You argued a 7900GRE is better than a 4070 super because ray tracing requires more vram. That may be true, but the 4070 super has much better ray tracing performance.
Sorry some of that discussion was edited for time. What I was saying is that some will argue that 4070 S > 7900 GRE because Ray Tracing performance tips it over the edge. But Ray tracing requires more VRAM, often now exceed 12GB at 1440p Ultra.
@@PCBuilderChannel So you fucking don't run 1440p native and run DLSS to get ray tracing and get a proper looking image? There's no game in which you won't be fine with a 4070 S on a 1440p monitor. For now at least. Just get the 4070 Ti Super if you must though.
I have a RTX3080 built computer but I want to upgrade to the 4090. What would I need to buy on a low budget to upgrade my build for the best performance?
AMD Price to Performance beats Nvidia every time. Nvidia may have better upscaling, but not by much. I for one would much rather have a better GPU overall at a cheaper price, than a worse performing GPU with slightly better upscaling at a higher price.
say what you want but amd is far behind nvidia, the only thing their gpu could compete with is gaming, amd lose to nvidia in almost all productivity apps
Also testing at 4k and saying you have to "zoom in", like no way... you need to sit right next to a 4k monitor to really appreciate 4k. Very few people use 4k. Over half of steam uses 1080p. This is some user benchmark level excuses we have here.
Your videos are great and very insightful, however, us in Europe have to take power consumption into consideration, which in turn makes picking an AMD card a difficult choice over NVIDIA. It's very aggravating.
In certain situations, FSR 3.0 is not vastly inferior to DLSS. In terms of games like Warzone, FSR vastly outperforms DLSS, to the point where using DLSS is so bad that it causes stutters and tanks fps, where FSR 3.0 is much better. In fact, the only two frame gen options that do work well for that game are FSR 3.0 and Fidelity FX CAS. For context, I’m using an Nvidia 3060 12gb, and still using FSR 3.0 because it is so much better for fps over DLSS.
@@katid571 umm no….. look up literally any optimized settings video on the game. Every single one is using and recommending either FSR 3.0 of Fidelity FX CAS. Even people running high end graphics cards like the 7900 models, 4070/80/90 are using frame gen.
I think it's preferable to present frametimes in dB like so: 10*log10(frametime/5ms) Because the 'feel' for everything we else we sense scales logarithmically like that. This shows up particularly that gains at lower frame rates matter much more than the same fps increase when already at high fps. Which actually helps supports arguments like 'doesn't feel different', which it won't if it's just a couple dB.
Illegal Chinese are buying 4090’s here and shipping them back to China to curtail the embargo as long as they are not in the retail boxes. That’s why invidia prices won’t go down except for the other mediocre series that they offer. Hate to mention politics but that’s the real lowdown and not just nitpicking races. Indians also do it too because gpu prices are extremely expensive per region there too. The market prices will remain high because someone that we don’t know are buying those high end gpu’s because scalpers in Asia are offloading them. The black markets which once gets to Asia can also be resold as far as to Russia for more money as tech is embargoed. Food for thought gentleman, have a blessed day and take care.
As if AMD didn't raise their GPU prices these past generations just like Nvidia? They just undercut slightly while having way worse cards. Try the image quality comparison on a 1080p monitor (which more than 50% of steam uses) with DLDSR+DLSS vs AMD equivalent FSR+VSR.
Yes. AMD gpus are just inferior unfortunately. I wanted to get a XTX but it's actually better to just get a 4080 super if you do ANY kind of productivity. The 4080 runs way cooler which means it's gonna be quieter. The 1% lows are way better on a 4080 so the user experience is gonna be better with fewer hiccups.
I remember I used to think this, then I watched some older Boost My Builds and he used to recommend nVidia just as often when they made sense. But as he has been trying to explain nVidia has turned it's back on retail gamers and are counting on uninformed customers buying their products based off their brand name. And it's working...
NVIDIA is getting to big, and gamers whine about the prices they pay for their hardware ..... go to the competition in droves. NVIDIOTS that say Radeon software sucks are stupid, they are just idiotic fanboys that never tried Radeon.
Bought a RX 7900XTX to try the red side and my experience was terrible. High temps, high power usage and driver problems. Returned it and bought a RTX4080. All my problems were gone. Unfortunetly, Nvidia has better products overall.
@@FellipeAlmada325you know with the software it’s stupid easy to underclock the card and would of solved the temps and high power usage issue in seconds. Now even nvidia be having driver issues i have both as well so you just didn’t want to look into to it too much.
@@Mrhandyhitman So does Nvidia can undervolt, AMD undervolt perfomance impact hit is very high, unlike Nvidia that undervolt impacting less. And who the hell undervolt using Graphic card's driver? MSI Afterburner curve optimizer is way better in every single ways. AMD had issue on older 2000s game and still is.
@@Mrhandyhitman The fact is it usually AMD iGPU driver causing issue on most gaming laptop, They break nvidia driver stuff, They were causing system instability. AMD is few years away from Nvidia, Who said Nvidia has no issue, It just Nvidia issue isn't that common and usually isn't that big.
In the past AMD GPU's did not even cross my mind, but then Mr. Jason recommended one for my build I was asking about and he was kind enough to look it over and sent me a list. I though this man knows what he is talking about and if he said it was the one to get then I believe him. I'm very happy I did, I'm now team AMD and today I'm using a RX 7900 XT and love it, I upgraded from the 6650 xt he had originally recommended to me. AMD GPU's are the best in my opinion, once you factor in the price, the V-ram and the quality of the GPU. (Ray-Tracing is still a gimmick) I'm lucky enough to be enjoying one, and it is because I listened to what Mr. Jason had to say. I will be using my RX 7900 XT for many years before I start looking for a new GPU.
I agree with your NVIDIA and AMD assessment. I had always used NVIDIA GPU's. At the time of purchase last year. There was no better bang for the buck card than a 6800 XT at the $500 price point. I made the leap. If money was no object, yes I would get a 4090.
I'm glad I bought the 7800x3d when it was 360 euro in my country. Now it's at 420-450. The only thing worrying me is the prices of the gpus that have increased aswell, the 4070 ti super gaming oc from gigabyte was 820 and now it's 900. I might wait for the 50 series and hope the prices drop even by a bit.
I totally get it if gaming is your concern. But being able to host a local LLM is pretty incredible for a lot of people. That was a tipping point for me, but I work in an industry where that is helpful.
I am happy I got the 7800x3d when I did ~6, or 7 months ago. Hopefully it can last me =P I usually did the: make 1 build then completely rebuild in the past, but I got into AM5 for upgradability this time. So I am hoping it can last me until AMD decides to finally ship an x3d with 16 cores that ALL have 3d vcache. With my 7800x3d running at 60watts peak, I can only imagine a 16 core 3d vcache CPU would be running a measly 120ish watts at most. Unless the two separate dies introduces an inefficiency that I am unaware of.

@@PCBuilderChannel You must’ve read my mind and had in the works already. Can’t wait to watch it. Thanks bro and keep up the good work. 1st pc build coming up and have been using you as my blueprint.
I'm planning to build a new gaming PC next week with Ryzen 5 7600X and wonder about GPU. Think for RX 7700 XT, in my country RX 7800 XT cost 110$ more. Is it worth to spent those 110$ ? Sapphire PULSE or Asrock Phantom Gaming ?
Either GPU would be fine as both are good pairs with the 7600X. As for Model either should be fine though 3 Fan GPUs offer better cooler so I would say ASRock over Sapphire but if the Sapphire is cheaper you can go with that and be totally fine.
Thanks for the video. Are the driver updates from AMD considered worse compared to those of NVDIA? Would this be a reason to prefer a NVDIA card instead of AMD?
Price to performance of high end cards is definitely in AMD''s favor. 4090 is faster but spending 100% more money for 25% more performance doesn't make sense!
Did you get a new camera? This video looks a lot cleaner, higher quality. Really good filming on this one, maybe it's been there a while but it really struck me watching this video.
I'm looking to build a brand new (Gaming) PC in the next few months. Right now I have an I7-7700K and I'm looking to buy something that will last as long as it did. Should I go with a Ryzen 9 or 7? And should I wait to see what Ryzen 9000 series has to offer in the next few months (X3D???)?
Until this past year, I hadn’t built a pc since 2002, when I was in college. And I had never purpose built a gaming pc. I don’t exactly have any expendable income, but I purchased a RTX 4070 and a RX 7800 XT, in order to gauge what type of GPU I wanted for 1440p gaming. The 7800 XT definitely had much better native resolution frames versus the 4070. However, I ultimately chose the 4070 simply due to my inexperience with configuring driver app settings for specific games. With AMD Adrenalin there was so much more trial and error (even with UA-cam tutorials), over the Nvidia app which tuned my in-game settings to my personal specs and/or giving its best recommendations with minimal effort. Afterwards I traded the 7800 XT for a 7900 GRE and put it in my college-aged daughter’s build (who has much more knowledge and experience with fine tuning gaming settings), I placed the 4070 in my teen sons’s build, and I went with a 4070 Super. In the future, as mine and my son’s gaming pc experience increases, we will probably err towards better price-to-performance GPUs from AMD. I’m totally open to criticism or any additional insights from anyone. Thanks! 🤙
I feel like you're the only sensible tech commenter. I bought a 6900xt after prices normalized, and I'm extremely happy with the performance for the price I paid. Also, I never turn on FSR. Why bother when all the games I want to play run plenty fast enough native? I'm sure at some point I'll use it in certain titles. But I'm also sure that I won't be crying that it's not DLSS. Also, I literally don't care about Ray tracing. Just give me higher old school rasterization performance because I'm always targeting max fps anyway.
Hello! Thank you for your videos. I'm currently running something about 1.5 yr old build (ryzen 5 5600 + RX 6800xt + 16gb ram). I mostly play CS2 and occasionally some single player AAA titles. The most important for me is to achieve stable 360Hz performance in CS2 - would you prefer building up a new PC and selling the old one (I'm thinking something along the lines of 7800x3d + RX 7900 XT/4080 for the higher end games + leave some room for streaming) or would you keep the old card and just swap the CPU and MB for a new one? :)
For CS2 I'd go ahead and drop in a 5700X3D which will allow you to upgrade the GPU as high as you want in the future. See our "how to upgrade your pc 2024" video for more
18:15 I usually pick up PC Parts in January-February. There's A LOT of Christmas shopping being done in Romania, and in January, there's A LOT of returns. Some open box deals are considerably cheaper than any promotion or deal you might find throughout the year. And open-box just means someone bought it, used it for a couple days tops, and then returned it. You still get the same warranty and the same return policy. Most of my parts have been bought like this and I saved up a ton of money. I'm talking 25-33% price cuts. When was the last time nVidia, AMD or Intel offered a 25% price cut at once (not in the span of years) on something?
Got a Hyte y40 prebuilt from iBuyPower at my local Walmart that was on clearance(due to being a display model)for 700 dollars and it had a Ryzen 7 7700 and a 4070, I was so stoked I got my sister a really really good first PC!
There’s a difference between “non-budget” and “money is no object” builds. Regardless of how much better DLSS is over FSR (and frankly I don’t think it’s that much better, it’s just fanboy logic to argue otherwise), it still makes sense to pick AMD simply for cost to performance. Look, a 4080 Super is $1k, but a 7900XTX which has faster rasterization and more VRAM can be gotten for $900 right now. Save that $100 for salmon treats for our generous host -->

I look at it this way unless nvidia drops prices , I like nvidia, but unless I buy a 4090, I'm likely to choose the nvidia alternatives. In my opinion, dlss over fsr is not worth almost 60 to 100$ different.
I agree, unless you are buying Nvidia top end, AMD all the way unless Nvidia starts pricing better
Thanks for sharing
I think you and many other have watched these videos and are convinced you'd see the difference, but I think in practice you wouldn't. Maybe I'm wrong and you can, and there are certainly differences, but I think in use the nobody is going to really notice the difference between dlss and fsr without looking with a magnifying glass or having 2 gpus testing side by side all the time. I also think the vram is more a case of wanting more for the money they're charging, which I agree with, I don't think you should pay $400-500 for a GPU with less than 16gb.
Not the case anymore with FSR 3.1. Just look at the new god of war for example
I bought my 7700XT a few months back open box at $350 and its been amazing with my 5800X (I'll upgrade when AM6 comes out cuz it's still running amazing).

Thanks so much for sharing and so glad we could help!
Generally agree with everything you said. A few arguments don’t follow. You argued a 7900GRE is better than a 4070 super because ray tracing requires more vram. That may be true, but the 4070 super has much better ray tracing performance.
and software support
Sorry some of that discussion was edited for time. What I was saying is that some will argue that 4070 S > 7900 GRE because Ray Tracing performance tips it over the edge. But Ray tracing requires more VRAM, often now exceed 12GB at 1440p Ultra.
@@PCBuilderChannel So you fucking don't run 1440p native and run DLSS to get ray tracing and get a proper looking image? There's no game in which you won't be fine with a 4070 S on a 1440p monitor. For now at least. Just get the 4070 Ti Super if you must though.
did you even watch the video or are you resistant to knowledge?
I have a RTX3080 built computer but I want to upgrade to the 4090. What would I need to buy on a low budget to upgrade my build for the best performance?
AMD Price to Performance beats Nvidia every time.
Nvidia may have better upscaling, but not by much.
I for one would much rather have a better GPU overall at a cheaper price, than a worse performing GPU with slightly better upscaling at a higher price.
Amd is king of.one screen. Nvidia is king of triple monitor and vr
@@scratchacker IDK I have three monitors on Radeon 6800XT and it works just fine... not sure about VR.
I also have a triple monitor setup on AMD 7900 GRE.
@@scratchacker Ask unboxhardware, when NV can't run 3 monitors, while on AMD no problem

Good video as usual, Jason.
Thank you!
FSR is vastly inferior to DLSS, that is not a matter of opinion, but pure fact, and whether or not YOU can spot the difference is irrelevant.
Yes!
Anyone that plays warzone or fps games has dlss/from turned off.
@@katid571 umm no….. look up literally any optimized settings video on the game. Every single one is using and recommending either FSR 3.0 of Fidelity FX CAS. Even people running high end graphics cards like the 7900 models, 4070/80/90 are using frame gen.
This does not happen for me on the 4070 TI.
@@O5IR15not me no point in running frame gen when I hover between 144-165 hz on my monitor maxed out at 1440p
I can't wait for the 3rd party benchmarks for the 5080, 5090, next x3d amd cpu's.
AMD top
Hope you enjoy!
I think it's preferable to present frametimes in dB like so: 10*log10(frametime/5ms)
Because the 'feel' for everything we else we sense scales logarithmically like that. This shows up particularly that gains at lower frame rates matter much more than the same fps increase when already at high fps.
Which actually helps supports arguments like 'doesn't feel different', which it won't if it's just a couple dB.
As long as NVIDIA are greedy douches, always choose AMD or Intel over NVIDIA imo.
This is the way to go.
I bought a 7800xt this week. Did I mess up lol?
We are so close to rx8000
No that's a great card
I dropped in a 5800x3d in my PC. I do game, and I noticed the frame rate and GPU usage go up. That was neat to upgrade.
Yes! Great upgrade
Why does Jason always recommend AMD? It’s all about price-to-performance. Just check out the chart, simple as that.
I remember I used to think this, then I watched some older Boost My Builds and he used to recommend nVidia just as often when they made sense. But as he has been trying to explain nVidia has turned it's back on retail gamers and are counting on uninformed customers buying their products based off their brand name. And it's working...
Every now and then the 4070 super ti especially makes sense, but lately this has been very true
Excellent! Even today the 6800XT crushes 3080 10gb in almost every game.
I have both.
NVIDIA is getting to big, and gamers whine about the prices they pay for their hardware ..... go to the competition in droves.
NVIDIOTS that say Radeon software sucks are stupid, they are just idiotic fanboys that never tried Radeon.
Nvidia's mind share is strong for sure
Congrats on your build and so glad we could help!
I agree with your NVIDIA and AMD assessment. I had always used NVIDIA GPU's. At the time of purchase last year. There was no better bang for the buck card than a 6800 XT at the $500 price point. I made the leap.
If money was no object, yes I would get a 4090.
Thanks for sharing! And absolutely, no budget might as well get that 4090!
Out hunting and watching PC Builder… just can’t miss an episode 😂
Hope it was a fun weekend!
I totally get it if gaming is your concern. But being able to host a local LLM is pretty incredible for a lot of people. That was a tipping point for me, but I work in an industry where that is helpful.
I regret not listening to you and buying 7800x3d when it was $320 😢. Keep up the good work !
Fingers crossed you get another chance! Thank you (:
I am happy I got the 7800x3d when I did ~6, or 7 months ago. Hopefully it can last me =P I usually did the: make 1 build then completely rebuild in the past, but I got into AM5 for upgradability this time. So I am hoping it can last me until AMD decides to finally ship an x3d with 16 cores that ALL have 3d vcache. With my 7800x3d running at 60watts peak, I can only imagine a 16 core 3d vcache CPU would be running a measly 120ish watts at most. Unless the two separate dies introduces an inefficiency that I am unaware of.
Yo Jason any ideas for a Monitor recommendation video soon ???
Keep the great vids going king, kudos on the job you’re doing.
We just dropped our new 4K monitor guide if you want to check that out! Our current 1440p Gaming Monitor video is still accurate and I go over the links there daily
Both are fine, check out our 7600X Build guide on the channel for more
Thanks for the video. Are the driver updates from AMD considered worse compared to those of NVDIA? Would this be a reason to prefer a NVDIA card instead of AMD?
Personal pref. You just have to try. Both sides complain
No, a long time ago yes but they have been equal for years now
How much would you say the 5070 would cost on release
Could you rate this build
No way to tell at the moment!
Because yours, and others youtubers advices, I got together my first gaming pc, 7800x3d and 7900gre. Just waiting for the cpu to arrive.
Nice combo! Best wishes on the build. Let us know how it goes!
Thank you! We switched cameras and to 4k over the Summer!
Very informative video as always. Thanks man!
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!
Thanks! 🤙
Nice! Thanks for sharing
Nice grab!!
See our "how to upgrade your pc 2024" video for more
Hey Jason, does gpu brands make that much of a difference? (Gigabyte , asrock , hellhound). Looking to pick up a 7900 gre on prime day.
Jason says it doesn't matter much. The 3 Fan GPUs do offer better cooling vs 2 Fan ones but that's about it.
For AMD, it's best to stick to exclusive board partners: XFX, Sapphire, PowerColor in no particular order.
Not a ton no, but check out our Best GPU 2024 video for the things that can be different between models
adding better textures is going to improve your game play?

I usually pick up PC Parts in January-February.

Hi, Jason, im Joseph.
Can you make recommendation for best budget UPS for PC, at least best 5 or 10 from best cheap-mid-high end?
Thank you
Hello Sir. I have a question. Which camera you are using for youtube? It looks super duper sharp.
Thank you! We just switched to Sony Alpha ZV-E1
First off, I love your content, Jason! What cooler do you recommend for a 7800x3d? Is an H100x from Corsair good enough?
Yes though if in the US there are better price to performance options.
Hop over to our 7800X3D build guide! We've got all our recommendations there
There’s a difference between “non-budget” and “money is no object” builds.
Well said Dark!
I’m thinking of building myself a desktop after years of using laptops. Do you think 16 gigs of vram is enough for the future?
Jason would say so yes
Yes! Check out our Best GPU 2024 video for more on that
