I read the Hiketeia after Will recommended it. It was everything that wonder woman is known for and about. As a kid born in 2000, my wonder woman is the one from the Justice League cartoon. This comic reflected everything I knew. And the rest of the collection was great as well. Will's recommendations are always really good.
Am I the only one that kind of likes 90's art? Yeah, it is not as good as other eras, but I kind of like the over the top style of the time and the ridiculous proportions. Though I will admit that it can go too far at times.
There's nothing wrong with exaggerated art when the content or subject is meant to be an exaggeration for storytelling purposes (Frank Miller's Elektra OGNs usually exemplify that) but when the story is meant to be realistic instead of post-modern? That's when they break down and convey really vulgar messages about the representation of the female body. For me at least.
TyranusRex721 I’m agree with you, 90s comics style, especially Jim Lee, Mike Deodato and Ed Benes so very cool. I will really happy, if WW vol 1 (issues 90-100) and Artemis Requiem will be reprint and will sell on stores.
LOL I happen to have loved the artwork in the Artemis story arch, I also thought the outfit was pretty sweet for what it was! She needed something to fight crime with if she could not be in the Wonder Woman outfit.
In the 90s there were a lot of stories in which a old superhero becomes unworthy and loses his identity and powers to a newcomer , probably it was very popular
I will agree I loved Wonder Woman Hiketeia! I loved that book, I happen to be a lucky owner of that hardcover book! It was a wonderful story! l have always loved that cover! Now I am going to have to read it again!
I have a question, when did Wonder Woman start using a sword and shield? I never liked her using them because it betrays her character of being someone trying to spread a message of peace. I mean she literally fights against the living embodiment of violence. Her using weapons designed for war goes against that concept.
Love your comment! And you're right -- she's meant to be anti-war not a warrioress. She should use the sword and shield as a last resort like when things go really really bad like Batman putting on the heavy armor suit or Iron Man using the Hulkbuster armor. Although she's used swords, axes, and shields in the elder ages, most recently Jim Lee began popularizing her Sophitia - like look with Superman: For Tomorrow, which came out shortly after his buddy Frank Miller wrote the DKR sequel. Of course this was a time when she was SUPPOSED to look more violent than usual (Maxwell Lord necksnap happened a while later). Then the New-52 came around. The image got reinforced and it remains as such. Sadly. I mean, the Lasso is so much more iconic! More feminine! More heroic!
Thats ridiculous 1st off that was a mans concept for her to be docile and passive and non violent The George Perez is the most closer to home of the passive preaching peace but yet at the same time she allowed the Olympians to manipulate her even tho her faith in them was misguided and got people killed now for her to wield the sword and shield is to actually defend herself against more of the monstrous deities that she had to fight that her other weapons Tiara and lasso was not as effective using
The problem with in continuity solo magazine stories is that it leaves out a lot of great stories for the character that comes out elsewhere. E.g. JLA A League of One and JLA Once Upon a Time (which introduced Gail Simone's Queen of Fables). Problem with both Messner-Loebs and Ends of the Earth is that neither are "underrated." You might want to look into storylines that Didn't get collected in the trades, like the Walt Simonson run which really looks into her iconography. I'd also say that among the Diana Prince era volume TPBs the one that reprints "Return to Paradise Island " is amazingly good and gives you a sense of how underrated the Depowered era was. Among volume 3 there's the Jodi Picoult run (ish 6-10). Heinberg was... pretty late in wrapping it up. Plus his Diana Prince status quo is an echo of the Diana Prince Era I just mentioned, so there's that. Hiketeia is, as you said very well received. Greg Rucka is great but not the greatest. Definitely not more than Robert Kanigher (whose own 'Twelve Trials' is a great Bronze Age story and he was very anti-war), or Marston's own run. Or Mike Sekowski. This isn't about Batman. Finally, there are some really excellent Wonder Woman stories that are REALLY underrated including JMS Odyssey (Thor writers in WW = weird), and Superman vs Wonder Woman by.Gerry Conway. Fantastic stuff where Diana goes to stop the Manhattan Project and Supes is out to stop her.
The Twelve Labors of Wonder Woman. In the Early 70’s-each issue was a task she had to perform to get back into the Justice League. There is also the I-Ching ear from the late 60’s-early 70’s…
Batman just wanted to follow the law, it isn't the Far West where you play judge, jury and executioner. There is the law for one reason, you cannot kill just because you think he deserved to die, even if he did. Then in the end, without spoiling anything, Batman may have lost the battle, but in a way he won the war.

The art is nice sometimes, but the Xtreme new costumes aren't

Who Is Wonder Woman was my first Wonder Woman book! It’s still my favorite!!
I love The Artemis v. Diana V. White Magician Arc. The 90s art is what I grew up and I love it. The women looked way hotter.
I would like to see The Flash or Green Lantern!

Dr. Madd Using a sword doesn't necessarily mean you're supporting violence. Look at the Jedi, they are people of peace yet they have swords themselves
