After my father introduced me to this amazing man and song.....there's not a day that goes by, that I don't listen to it. Truly one of my all time favorites ❤
A true talent, like Guy Clark, John Prine, and so many others I wonder that his name is not known to everyone. I only discovered him last year and as I am reaching the end of the yardstick of time this song touches me more profoundly than it would have at the other end of the yardstick of life. Wow more people need to hear him.
There are a lot of overrated singer-songwriters with limited singing abilities and simple songs - but Sam Baker isn't one of them! Every word hits you like a meteorite, every bit of the message is delivered.
I keep thinking I can get through this song without breaking down. That thought lasts until the first chorus. And my love and I are still alive and together. Anticipated grief.
We have seen Sam Baker a couple of times at the Canmore Alberta Folkfest, and each time he deeply touched the audience. Sam is a genuine soul in his music reaches deep into people’s emotions.
Saw Sam at the Greystones in Sheffield last year - the first and only time I've ever been moved to tears at a concert. Simply stunningly beautiful song.
I absolutely love this song! Took me a minute to find as it was on UA-cam video but I got it. I know I will feel this when my beloved passes, anticipated grief
Off to see Sam again this June in Gtaeshead UK...A 600 mile there and back trip from my house and worth every mile. He's a very special artist. Thank you for posting this.
Oh my gracious. Lucky you. And I just saw Sam for the very first time in Worthington at the McConnell Center last weekend. I would be doing just as you did one year ago. What a wonderful wonderful man who really touches people with his music.
I have three of his records, triggered by a chance hearing of this tune, on a UK BBC slightly 'marginal' radio programme. I found his delivery a bit off the wall at first, slightly off-tune, largely talked, rather than sung, but soon the strength of the message came through. Words are used as an artist would use colours and textures from his palette, to convey a message almost sublimely. Damn clever stuff: thanks, Sam - I'm hooked!
his silhouette refers to the German boy that asked to swtich places with Sam in the train compartment that housed the ensuing Shining Path bomb where sam would witness the his family opposite killed before his eyes, i feel sams, guilt that he would should have not survived or my buddy Don who sat next to Sam, tradegy struck, Sam where are you? come back pls and teach us reality!!
Isn’t this just one of the most beautiful songs ever written... Thank you Mr Baker 🙏🏼
Some songs just get criminally overlooked. Then at some point someone's gonna have a huge hit with it.
3 fantastic talents. 'So many tears,' also when I watch this...

Fortunate to have been there that night. He came back to KC the next year for Folk Alliance; what a great talent to see up close.
I agree with the last comment. A tear jerker of a song . Thank you Sam

I first heard Sam as a guest on Bob Harris' BBC Radio 2 show in the UK. This song brings tears every time

Hard to write with the years & tears blurring my eyes.
But... Thanks.

It definitely brought me to tears during their concert in Utrecht in 2015. Still gets me shivers everytime I hear it...

Beautiful song, beautiful man. Thanks, Sam.
This is right up there with John Prine's "Hello In There"..
