  • The Automower from Husqvarna is a great automatic lawnmower.
    Only, in our hilly garden, it has a problem...
    It should be able to follow 2 guides to different mowing areas.
    In our case, it can only go to AREA 1 and not to AREA 2 (climbing up a path of 17° up), because whenever it hits something, it starts mowing. That's dangerous...

    The Technical Manual says:
    "If the Automower® (not 210 C) does not find the right loop signal strength when it leaves the charging station to follow the loop to a remote area, it will start to mow directly instead."
    It also says that the signal may be affected by magnetic objects in the ground or in surrounding walls and buildings. The signal will weaken in these areas. For example, a grassed area on a concrete roof.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi there... Sorry for late response! Glad you picked it up in time...

    From the Manual:
    Corridor width (3-2-3)
    Corridor width is a relative distance and is stated
    on a scale from 0 to 20. The lower the Corridor
    width value the closer Automower® follows the
    boundary wire and/or guide wire.

    Thanks for all your reactions!
    In the meantime, I am still convinced it IS a bug in the software: It behaves correctly when returning back from mowing when the battery is low: When it bumps, it doesn't start mowing either: It continues to search for home, using the same guide wires...
    But I gave up trying in this garden. I just carry it once to part A and then to part B...
    In the future, we will move to another place and we'll buy another mover: Honda Miimo???

    ...If that doesn't work, then maybe try completely switching the #1 and #2 guide wires on the base and setting the bot to take guide #1 (now going to the smaller part of the area) only 20% of the time. If there is a bug related to just taking guide #2, then maybe you'll see the problem happen on the other side.
    For the record my 230ACX has been running GREAT for the past month unatended, but I only need one guide wire and I have my wires flush with the ground.
    Report back what you find!

    YES, I have found a solution to the problem. The guide cable(s) need to leave the charging station so that Automower sees at to its left, when it has backed out and turned 180 degrees. My 230ACX could often not find the guide cable when it was leaving the charge station. I placed the guide cable according to the user manual, which is out from the centre of the charging station. Well, the user manual is WRONG. The technical manual manual from Husqvarna, however shows how to install the guide cable correctly. The technical manual was not supposed to be available to end users, but I found it and downloaded it from the Internet. The Automower is designed to drive at a distance to the right of the guide cable. The distance seems to chosen at random when Automower leaves the station. If the guide cable runs out from the centre of the station, Automower will often be too far from its wanted position relative to the guide cable. Here is the relevant text in chapter 3.5 in technical manual: 3.5 Problems following OUT. IMPORTANT INFORMATION If Automower® does not find the right strength on the loop signal when it leaves the charging station, it will start to mow immediately instead. Tip! If Automower® finds it difficult to follow the guide wire out from the charging station, the guide wire should, if possible, be routed further out from the front edge of the charging plate. Should this not be possible, reduce the reversing length or set a lower Corridor width value. (There is a little drawing too, which shows how to place the guide cable.)

    Yes I tried different values on Corridor width. Currently it's set at zero.
    The problem is not that it can't follow any of the guides.
    The bug is clearly the fact that when going from the station to the mowing zone, it starts mowing as soon as it bumps into something, even a ripple in the road may trigger it. When going "back home" (from mowing zone to station, it can hit anything and often and then it continues to follow the guide as it should.
    Isn't this a program bug?

    Maybe decreasing the speed might help. Yours seems so jittery when following the line, it looked like a kid was remote controlling it. Then you could avoid the bump trigger being triggered... I think it's not a bug but rather a wanted feature that avoids the mower going somewhere where it's not supposed to go without mowing. It might not be perfect that way all the time.

    I have the same problem with a Cramer robot mower. I set the parameter to go 46 meter. But its start cut at 26 meter. I have added a new guide cable but it is exactly the same problem.

    @LageB12 No, this bug was not fixed (yet)
    I'm really sure it's a bug but Husqvarna kept referring me to the manual...
    I believe you are in Sweden, right?
    If you could find the right person to talk to, it may help.
    Otherwise it's a very good robot, much more intelligent than competitors I checked before purchase.
    I don't know "wiper" but I'm interested to know their 'intelligence'...

    Great clip fidelworp! Thanks for sharing.
    I am considering to buy 230 ACX myself and have similar paths as you have.
    Did you get the bug fixed (if it is a bug - then, wouldn't there be some guarantee or something? Or, do you think this is simply the level of functionality of machine. I am also thinking of another brand "wiper" but not sure which one is best....

    could it be that it needs 2feet of space between the guidwire and bounderies? maby the paths needs to be minimum 4 feet wide?? the fact that is goes on the left of the guidwire upon return and follows the wire on it´s way out can also be a issue.. then when it bumps into something it interrups the planned route and starts to mow.. just a thougt.. best of luck!

    @fideldworp Hello, I finally decided on the Automower myself and got it delivered just a day ago. I am now reading the Manual. Did you try different values on Corridor width (not sure HVA uses word corridor in English Manual) but it is the value between 0-20 which default is 10 under menu functions. Guess it should be set to 0 in your case -or.?

    @fideldworp Hello. I finally just procured the Automower myself. Not yet installed, so it will be very exciting. Did you try to change the corredor width (ranging 0-20) where the default is 10. Perhaps better be around 0 in your case or.?

    Hey there. Thanks for sharing this video. We've just recently acquired a 220AC which is pretty much the same. at the beginning i had the problem it wouldn't follow the guide line or even find it. Now, after a little tweaking, it follows it out exactly to the spot but occasionally has trouble finding the guide quickly.
    my corridor is now set to 4 on the guide line, used to be 10 and it wouldn't work. Have you tried increasing or decreasing this value?

  • @Noniz
    @Noniz 14 років тому

    Looks like it's losing the guide in case 2 and 3. Whats your value on "corridor" (if it's called that in english)? It looks like the guide wire is a littlebit to far to the right causing the mower to hit the stone. When it drops the signal from the guide it starts mowing.
    Use "0" as value fpr corridor on guide 2...

    In these 6 years, I tried all suggestions below, but nothing improves it's behaviour.
    It finds it's way back home but not to area 2.
    I'm still convinced this illogical behaviour is a programming bug!
    It's a pity Husqvarna does not want to react to this and give a signal they looked into the program logic. If I had the source, I may even try to improve it...
    Since then (6 years later), I bought another (identical) unit and it has the same bug... The motherboard of my first unit failed suddenly and made it useless. I'm using the 2 base stations now and each time, still carry the unit between both areas. It's a shame... (Contact: filip@itronix.be)

      Guide lines should always be places straight out at least 1-2 meters from the station.
      It does not find the guide because the corridor width is 0 wich make the signal weaker and it's too tight between the area cables in the stonepath.

    • @FiDelZarlar
      @FiDelZarlar  8 років тому

      +zreenox if you look carefully, you will see that that's not the point. It does leave the charger and follows the guide line. But as soon as it bumps into something on the way out it starts mowing. Not on the way back to the charger. This is a bug!

    • @zreenox
      @zreenox 8 років тому

      When it bumps into something it does start mowing yes. The stonepath is not wide enough. Saw something about you got a new automower, wich one?

    • @FiDelZarlar
      @FiDelZarlar  8 років тому

      +zreenox yes, I now have 3: one Husky 230ACX with defect motherboard, a 2 year old ACX230, using 2 charging stations and one Lizard from Eurogarden.
