    Motorcraft SW-8368 is the part number for the sending unit. I try to use OEM parts versus aftermarket. I found the lowest price on Amazon at $17.34, which was cheaper than Autozone's aftermarket unit. Thanks for posting the video. Interesting info on the resistor in the oil pressure gauge. That would explain why all 3 of my Rangers have almost the same oil pressure reading.

    Does it make an oil mess to do this? Would i need to top the oil off after?

    I just bought a 98 Ranger and the gauge is as jumpy as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.
    Question: Until I get it fixed, is it safe to drive?

    • @SouthernMechanic
      @SouthernMechanic  3 роки тому +1

      You should be ok, the only bad thing is that you never actually know if you have oil pressure or not and can do serious damage if you dont have oil pressure but if you have to drive it just make sure your oil level is full and unless something bad mechanically is wrong with the lubrication system then you should be fine

    I know this video is old but I'm having the same issues 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac when the gauge check light comes on from time to time, trying to find a fix that will work and not cost me a lot of money because I will be doing it myself

      This fix is really cheap and fairly easy, how many miles on your vehicle?

    So, just so I'm clear, you changed the oil pressure gauge sensor? My son has a Ford Ranger with the exact same problem so I'm trying to find a solution. What would I be asking for at the auto parts store to get this fixed? Thanks for the video, great information. Just need a little more clarification. Have a blessed new year!

    • @SouthernMechanic
      @SouthernMechanic  3 роки тому +1

      Yes and it's called the oil pressure sender or oil pressure sending unit

      @@SouthernMechanic I thought that might be the issue. Thanks for the quick response. Any idea what they run? Look fairly easy to replace. It will make my son feel a lot better if that gauge is working.

      @@stephenshoemakejr6921 they are fairly cheap, around 15 to 20$ if I remember correctly or you can go through rockauto and get it even cheaper if you can wait a few days, I would love to get some more subscribers for sure, I know I need to post more on a regular basis which I plan on doing this year, any help would be greatly appreciated, also glad I could help, let me know if you run into any problems, thanks for watching!!!

      @southernMechanic can you help me out, what did you change out? Also, I have a 2002 ranger with the 3.0 v6 it runs great, but sometimes while driving it flickers like that then shuts off, also it starts having valve noises when it’s showing no oil pressure, which tells me that the gauge is showing it correctly, but what do I need to change to make this stop happening, I’ve got 232,000 miles and it’s been maintained it whole life, I love this truck and I don’t wanna drive it cause it’ll end up blowing the motor. So what can I do to fix this?

    • @txsurfnturf

      @@donutcrashthe part he changed out is called the oil pressure switch, or oil sending unit. It goes by different names. Pretty inexpensive part, and easy to replace if you have a set of large size deep sockets.
