- Victoria Grant (Julie Andrews) is a struggling soprano who, with help from a fellow performer (Robert Preston), finally finds success by posing as a male female impersonator. But what will happen when a nightclub owner (James Garner) finds himself attracted to Victoria's cross-dressing male persona and begins to suspect "Victor" is really a woman? This gender-bending musical comedy received seven Oscar nominations and won for Best Score.

*A CLASSIC.*
I still think Lesley Ann Warren should have won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for this film. It's rare that a performer receives any recognition, no less a nomination, for a comedic/musical role such as this. I love this film. Definitely one of my favorites.
What will it be like if there are more performers receiving recognition for comedic/musical roles? That would be brilliant.
This is one of my favorite Julie Andrews movies
After all these years, I never get tired of watching it. :))
I absolutely love this movie. I think it is one of the best comedies ever. And the costumes, music, and sets are phenomenal. Love it!
RIP James Garner love & miss you.
RIP James Garner, Robert Preston, Alex Karras and Blake Edwards :(
I just love Julie and this movie.
I just saw this movie for the first time the other night and absolutely loved it. Leslie Ann Warren is also a scream.
She's a scream in Clue also!
A classic with stunning performances (how Robert Preston didn't win I'll never know!). LOVE!
@TONYFROMWESTSIDE AGREED. fantastic movie, and all the pros are right on cue, from Robert Preston, Lesley Ann to the incredibly underrated James Garner and of course, Julie Andrews.
IThe film has the sheen and artistry of a Fosse musical, and the wit of a 50s screwball comedy. Very well done.
Well said
absolutely amazing! Jools and Blackie at their best!
I love the trailer!
Marvelous movie. Love to watch Julie Andrews. :D

@Pekoautika "The Schiller Institute campaign for a change in concert pitch from A=440hz back to A=432hz is based that 432hz is deeply connected with nature and the vocal chords of singers will not be damaged by higher ranges when centered at concert pitch A=432hz."
Sadly, we have lost a voice that had the effect of opening out hearts to love. It's a dark dark story about what was done to extinguish the tones of her voice that made the child within us burst forth in joy and celebrate of life.
Where can you find this version of the song? I cant find it anywhere!
does somebody knows where i can see the full movie?

A SHAME.....ROBERT PRESTON DID'NT GET THE OSCAR [HE WAS NOMINATED] I CAN UNDERSTAND JULIE LOST IN 82 TO MERYL STREEP, BUT.....LOVE THIS MOVIE!
I've never seen James garner with a moustache before
I didn't know James Garner was in this movie.
Blake Edwards did SOB as sort of a "tongue in cheek" as you see the parts where Julie Andrews went from nanny to nun. Hollywood snubbed Edwards in his early career.
vorrei ascoltarlo in italiano con la voce di Sergio Fio
A woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman. Cool.

I know that this movie is based upon a story-line from the 1930s. As a transsexual in my own transition, I lived a real 'Victor / Victoria' life (1979 - 1985). I was a female living as a male who was pretending to be a woman who was pretending to be a man. ('SlimandMe.WordPress.com)
I generally do not like musicals. Also, because this story-line connected to my personal experience, I held a negative perspective about this movie for many years. I saw it on TV perhaps 10 years after its original release and fell in love with the music. Then I softened about the plot and my personal transition. Now it is among my favourite movies.

@Pekoautika Bungled surgery NOT cancer.
Victor Victoria. I really miss James Garner.
I did enjoy this movie but I somewhat agree with you. He was such a wonderful director but I don't think he quite knew what was good for her. SOB was one of the worst movies I've seen. She's so elegant and he never let her show it. No offense to anyone though because I still adore his brilliance. He directed Breakfast at Tiffany's for goodness sake! He must be good!
Thank you for the Virus in my computer!
U FO you’re welcome
@withowlseyewatch I thought her voice was ruined because she had some kind of throat cancer?
