Instead of investing in other countries other than oil reserves, why can’t India develop its own industries when they depend most on imports?
We have huge brain drain. There are no R&D in India. All the companies are mostly assembly sections or IT industry, which are bottom of the chart, low cost labour.

Sir Govt. selling it's promoter share in Govt Companies when the market is at peak, is a good decision. On sale of Govt shares in Govt companies, are going to get absorbed by the Fund Mgrs (like Abudabi/ Singapore etc).
Once sale of its stock, Govt will deploy the fund as an investors. In other words Govt is indirectly revaluating it's enterprise value.

Other countries started sovereign wealth fund with surplus fund arising out of their resources businesses . Not by selling their resources. Already govt resources diverted to AA monopoly businesses . Hope it is not another gimmick for diverting funds to monopoly businesses . Also hope sovereign wealth fund will not govt convenience fund like gold sovereign fund .

I just wonder, any Global investment will comes with risk. That's why, others countries are investing their surplus amt not their saving amt into Sovereign wealth fund to create profit out of profit. But in India's case instead of making public listed companies profitable and use that profit amt to support SWF investment But just selling more shares of that public companies are we not taking twice the risk? if that SWF investments turn into default due to Global tension or just supports Adani, Ambani only type foreign investments where u'll be billed more then normal for ur import example: coal frm Australia and in that situation How the Govt will handle? will it again sell more public companies shares to the market to manage the loss? or will it be force to take new loans from IMF or World Bank etc.? how they will handle this higher then normal risk situation with this type of approach? Pls clarify.

The whole concept of Govt investing in other countries to earn profit is not good from India perspective, when there is lot of potential for small, medium industry development is lacking internally to develop the own economy instead of developing other country's economy! Second withdrawing from public sector may not be good in terms of pricing controls and directing output flow to needed areas, unless these sector running in heavy losses consistently! Third other Countries you mention drawn fund from export surpluses anyway, don't have much investment potential internally except China which has enormous surplus. So idea is not good! Instead try to focus on export oriented growth as next target state. I can go on and on...in pages and pages!
