Divorces do terrible things to families, which always causes psych damage to the people involved, including herself and her son. Even more so when it comes to custody battles. I would actually be more concerned about the mother-in-law. MIL was so desperate for a second grandchild that Olivia was able to get her first, by ever-so-obliquely pointing out the flaws in her mute, barren daughter-in-law and making herself desirable by ever-so-shyly entering into MIL's concern for her family. By the time Olivia got around to drugging Ethan, MIL was tight enough in Olivia's pocket that she defended and outright pushed the affair, which would have given it the appearance of legitimacy. But the mother-in-law just comes along with not getting the divorce, and she also got her comeuppance in the past life, anyway. It's easy to say "you should have known better" or "you should have seen it coming" from the outside, but most people take others at face value. They don't expect to meet someone like Olivia, so most don't realize there's a Machiavellian web being woven around them until they're already caught. Trust me, I've been there. I'm lucky it only cost me the two pieces of truly precious jewelry I had and not my aunt, who *was* his target for isolation. Unfortunately, he succeeded in secretly coaxing my uncle to take that one step too far down the wrong path and made him unrecognizable to his own mother.
