Thanks for this very interesting video. Could be great to have an idea of the stitching quality of the pictures. That's for me the most important part in the post-treatment of my VT process.
The ability to do HDR directly in lightroom, to apply noise reduction again in lightroom and then to export & stitch the result directly in lightroom is so fast & much more convenient than with the Qoocam, so just for that, it makes much more sense to go for the Z1 in my opinion. I also think your image was a bit underexposed which explains the poor results in the shadows, the Z1 with its large 1 inch sensor accepts to recover a lot of highlights as well as recovering shadows, did you make a test with a more properly exposed DNG ? Just wondering. In terms of workflow speed, having to avoid ptGUI or anything similar is also a time saver and so a real plus. But a really Nice video. I love the cinematic. :) Thanks.
Yes I agree and yes I intentionally underexpose things as a not ideal situation. Using lightroom native has lots of advantage I did not mentioned in this video - again, this is not toward professional that know lightroom classic and with ton of plugins. I think at the end, it really come down who is the photographer and who is doing the edit :) And thank you!
YES!!! I would love to see how you process 360 pictures with this camera for your real estate projects. Thanks in advance! I just got my qoocam 8k, but I wasnt happy with my final tour in the dark areas.

This year I'm only going to listen to you and Mic on their product, too many "influencers" out there that don't do 360 regularly.
Haha thanks! Yes, they are tiny planet guys - which I do as well. 360 is hard to gain views b/c of headset limitation. But I never take the easy way out - if we work our butts off on 360 contents - one day we will making an impact in the media landscape (at least what I believe)
Qoocam 8K? Or wait for Z1 come back in stock? Qoocam 8K is a good investment for Video too. I will personal get both - Qoocam 8K for video and Z1 for photo. But Qoocam 8K also great for photo.
I love your videos i constantly find myself re-watching as a reference. Does the qoocam have replaceable lenses . ps when you said you should get the z1 you pointed at qoocam and vice versa lol.
CreatorUp they each have strengths and weaknesses based on your tests but it seems like you have to either choose low light capability or sharper images. You can't get both in one camera. I would've thought that the DNG8 would have been the better overall camera since it's 8K. So which camera would be better for real estate walk-throughs? Which would give the best and sharpest results?
You can not change the aperture like Z1. But you can always shoot manual brackets or even manual DNG8 brackets - which will give you the best result - like 32 photos merged with 4 stop
@@hughhou thanks for you response. Not being able to change the aperture is a deal breaker. Currently we use DSLR and PTGUI but we have an upcoming gig with 300 VRs so which one is good for pro use, money don't matter, we need pro quality and being able to shoot manual brackets and good resolution and quick stitching without a lot of issues, we use Mac. Would be great if you could suggest us a suitable gadget.
I'm studying hard with your good content. I have a question. If you go from normal mode to dualfisheye mode, the Wi-Fi signal disappears. From the teacher's explanation, the Wi-Fi remains the same even when I go to dualfisheye mode. What should I do?
Hi. You compare a noisy picture of the Z1 with a dark one of the Qoocam (@7:45). They are both not usable like that! And then again (@11:35) Qoocam is much darker. "not bad"? Look at the noise on the wall behind you. Is this going away when you correct the WB and adjust brightness? That said I appreciate your efforts. Thanks.
Hi, as always great content!! Please could you briefly tell me what workflow and software did you use for the Qoocam 8k? Did you only use Qoocam Studio? Or any other software?
Happy holidaze Hugh. Gave you a thumb up as every good subscriber should do for your video presentation. Glad I passed up buying myself the Max, passed up the upgrade from my Theta SC to Theta V, and passed on getting the Insta360 One X BUT will save up that money for the Qoocam for Chinese New Year present to thyself. (Unless Insta360 puts out a new camera before then.) Be safe.
Yes Tamara - wait on the Insta360 new camera first - this camera is pretty complicated might be for you, at least right now. The 8K high res will be really tough on phone if you don't use PC to process. Happy holiday!
HaHaHa! You're the best Hugh!! Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year to you! Thank you for all of the valuable information that you share!!
now the theta app has hdr shooting, so one click and you get automatic hdr right? so was this video taken before this feature or you only considered multibracketing for some technical reason?
Curious, if the Theata Z1 took about 30 mins to HDR, then is it justifiable to spend a few minutes to color correct the DNG8 from Qoocam to achieve the same result?
Do you know if there will be a plug-in for Final Cut Pro to be able to side step using 360 One Studio, to process the video clips, so there is less compression and can go directly from camera to video editing? I know you can supposedly do this in Premiere Pro but I use FCPX and wondering if they will ever have a plug in, so we can work on the 360 video files, SOC. Thanks for the tutorials. Have you ever compared a Matterport Camera to the Theta Z1? I wonder how much difference there is?
For Qoocam 8K? You will render out MOV in ProRes then it will fly in FCPX on MAC - Premiere is not as fast as FCPX. Matterport and Z1 is different camera. Matterport is photogremtry and Z1 is 360 camera.
Can you post a sample of Qoocam 8 k landscape photo ? most pics I have seen have soft detail in distance, want to try and sharpen in Topaz Ai sharpen , THanks
Check this one: ua-cam.com/video/7NNeykhvNhs/v-deo.html - it has dedicated test on distance sharpness - compared to 2 different level VR camera. Better explain than this video.
Hi Hugh... really nice tutorial. I would like to ask you a question. Today the difference between Qoocam 8k and Obsidian Go is more or less 300/400euros ... which one would you buy?
Is this still with the preproduction unit or do you have a production unit now? I've seen comments from someone that at least one preproduction unit has front focusing issues? While I wouldn't expect CA to change from preproduction to production, front focusing on a fixed lens camera like this is mostly a quality control issue and that's more likely to get fixed in production. Edit - a whole pile of additional questions here: You mentioned that bracketing on the Qoocam can be done with custom modes, how does HDR compare if you bracket 3 exposures with 3EV steps? When bracketing, how much time is there between shots for the Z1? Also, for the Theta, they announced a mode called "Handheld HDR" - do you have any detail on that mode? Does it burst a bunch of same-exposure images like DNG8, or is it some sort of customized bracketing? As a side note about number of exposures - the method of taking those exposures and merging affects how much DR improvement you get. For traditional bracketing, the amount of DR expansion you get is evstep*(nshots-1) (where evstep is the step between shots). So you can get 6EV of improvements with 3 shots at 3EV per shot. For burst stacking (Google HDR+, Kandao RAW+/DNG8), it's log2(nshots) - so 8 shots = 3EV improvement. So it performs wore in improvement per shot, but since all shots are short exposures, there is more ability to do motion handling/correction.
It is Production unit. I have both now. Bracketing with Qoocam 8K will not magically improve sharpness in distance objects - so the improvement is not much - the problem of Qoocam is not noise or even dynamic range - it is details - it can not capture as much details as Z1. I don't do traditional bracketing - like set each step 1ev - I set each one basic on my judgement for the best exposure final result - Z1 also has quick capture mode - it is a plugin on Z1 (the hacky way to use it) that take really fast 1EV auto bracketing photo - so if speed is a concern - Z1 actually can work really fast - but it is for more advanced users - not suggest to try it unless someone has massive experience with the Z1.
@@hughhou Heh, I had a whole bunch of questions that weren't entirely related to each other. Sorry for the confusion. Yes, bracketing won't help sharpness in distant objects. The sensor resolution of the QC8k is slightly higher going by the DNG sizes, so it says there is an optical deficiency which is unfortunate. :( My other questions were in relation to whether or not further DR improvement was possible. As far as setting arbitrary EV steps - that seems to be unlikely to do better than finding out the largest step possible for a given sensor/ISO setup and using that. I never use 1EV steps, that's way too little (and is wasteful and more likely to cause motion artifacts if something does move) if shooting raw. 3EV should work well for something like the QC8k. In many cases, my concern with shooting raw brackets is not my time spent, but the time taken between shots. For example, the Mi Sphere won't take the second shot in a bracket until after it's done saving the first. The QC8k obviously has enough RAM to burst 8 shots without saving to flash - but for other cameras like the Insta360 OneX and Z1, it's not clear what the dead time between shots in a bracket series is. (The less time between shots the better!)
Andrew, it takes about 1..3 sec between brackets with new Z1 plugin. HandheldHDR is useless (lowest ISO 400). You can read more from theta v and Z1 Facebook user group.
@@pruutus OK, thanks. 1.3 seconds between bracket series, or individual shots in the bracket? 1.3 seconds is a lot better than the Mi Sphere, but it's still pretty bad as far as ghosting and motion artifacts. As to why the Qoocam seems to not be doing as well as the Z1 - it seems like the Z1's lens FOV may be less than the Qoocam, so while the Qoocam has slightly higher image sensor resolution, the Z1 may have more pixels per degree of FOV. It would be interesting to see how image quality of the unstitched images is near the stitch line, it may be that in the future as the stitching algorithm improves, the Qoocam might do better near there since it has a wider lens FOV.
Love these videos Hugh! Can you do one that compares One X vs Qoocam 8k in daylight for moving video? I cant tell if the Qoocam is worth the upgrade. Clips from 360 rumors makes it look like virtually no diff, but some of your night clips look there is more of a difference when you do some post processing.
I think I have sample from the original review / first impression of the ONE X vs Qoocam - but Qoocam is in better than ONE X quality wise everyway - if you are talking about stabilization - watch my latest Qoocam video: ua-cam.com/video/O0iJ3hu5sus/v-deo.html
Hi there. To merge your pictures into the HDR pic (at 9:07…) you use tiff files. May I ask how did you get them? I can create them in Theta stitcher, but it doesn’t allow batch processing and if I merge the DNG files into HDR you can’t edit a 360° pano (right?). Did you create them one by one? That could become a real pain if you had a larger tour….? I guess I miss something somewhere? Your advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
Yes absolutely! Look at GoPro MAX - it is so much better now than original release - same will be Qoocam 8K and just any 360 camera lol. The common problem it they release too early too soon lol.
CreatorUp thank you so much mate I almost watched all your reviews I think you are one of the best in the 360 world. I want to learn about this world and improve my skills on this field. However, thank you again for your answers I know you are busy but you still spend time for your followers.
Yes, my choice is the Theta Z1. Not bought one, want to do estate agent and auto. To start. Where can I find the best software for the Theta Z1 Thanks 😊 Great video 👍
Concerning great HDR programm Photomatix, right yesterday I've got an answer from the support of HDRsoft about batch processing of 360 images (I hope this respectful team will not mind): >Yes you can also apply the 360º image option when batch processing, and there are a couple of ways to do that. >My preferred method is to create my own preset in non-batch mode, then apply that preset in the batch. After loading a set of bracketed panoramas and choosing your settings, including the '360º' option, please find the combo-box menu below the sliders to save the preset. >In batch mode, you can choose your own preset that you've created above. >Otherwise using only batch mode, you can select the option for ‘Custom settings or multiple presets’ and click ‘Set’. Next, select the HDR processing style you want (e.g. Details Enhancer, Fusion/Natural, etc) from the ‘Custom Settings’ dropdown menu then click the ‘Set’ button beside it. You’ll find the 360º image checkbox on the pop-up window that will appear along with the presets dropdown menu and sliders.
I want to buy one of these cameras and use it for green box shots. I think Qoocam makes us feel comfortable in keying by recording 10 bit, if anyone has any other ideas, it would be really helpful.
Yes you are absolutely right. If Green Screen you need 10-bit. That’s is your cheapest solution - then I use VR180 camera which has 12 - 16-bit

@@hughhou Thank you Hugh for your kind response and generous information. The VR 180 is a serious alternative, but I was intent on making 360-degree VFX experiences. I think I'll try something with Kandao's cheap 8K 10bit camera to play with some matte paint compositing issues and hang around with UE5 with shooted footages for now. Thank you😀
Hello, great video ! SUPER useful info. Haven't been able to find any other website or video with exactly the info you gave, so cheers man !! I used to take photos for fun (with a Mija Madv) but recently started taking it a bit more seriously, doing Virtual Tours since this summer. Now I want to step up my game with a new better camera, for now I'm an amateur, I'm not at all familiarized with the programs you mentioned; I only use LightRoom on automatic color correction. I'm seriously considering the Z1 after watching your video, although I'm confused if this is the camera for me, because of the number of pictures I take (I don't really want to spend 30mins editing per picture) because of the fact I'm often in the nature taking pictures without really thinking of editing them too much, but I'm trying to do virtual tours now and learning more and more about editing. Can you tell me if the Z1 is still better than the Qoocam 8k without the "perfection" editing? (I almost only take pictures, and I'm tired of flares and bad dynamic range) And thank you for your time, I love how you connect with all your subscribers, really means a lot nowadays.
Excessive compression or inferior optics on the Qoocam 8K? I can definitely see more fine detail in the trees and pebbles on the Theta Z1 than on Qoocam, which also has flatter colors. Too bad....
What is the best 360 camera for photo a normal (not rich) person can buy? I do seldom film but I know several place I want folk to see for example on Google maps, so what camera shall a person like mo look towards?
Thanks so much, Hugh, for this awesome focus on photography ! Don't know if you still check back on this video... If you do... can you please tell me if Theta Z1 has a "TinyPlanet LIVE PREVIEW" mode through the phone/APP? I need that mode (as I focus on TinyPlanet photography), otherwise the, Z1 is quite "useless" to me... // Someone allready told me the Qoocam DOES have it... // Thanks!
No it does not. It is not really a Tinyplanet camera - it is a professional camera lol. But it has cystal ball view if that is what you are looking for. You edit into tinyplanet with Theta App tho - just you can't see it when capture.
Also crystal ball view is pretty close to Tinyplanet - without the stretching on edges - I will make an indepth Z1 tutorial soon for photography - I will include my tiny planet workflow if you are interested. But yes, tinyplanet - ONE R or Qoocam 8K might be easier - as it does not matter too much - you compress the whole thing down anyway - your big sensor won't shine as much - I can fool people with my ONE X in tinyplanet and they think I use Z1 lol.
Hi. I was looking for a review of the XPhase ProS from you (see how much I value your opinion!). Couldn't find it. Do you intend to do one in near future? Would you consider it for real estate virtual tours? Thanks.
I don't have one and I am not intent to buy one - does not seem to attract me with what I saw so far and the engineering. Smaller sensor size no matter how many camera they have they still look like security camera
How did you combine the DNG8 files from the Qoocam? Did you use Raw+ or something different? Also you mentioned rendering for your architectural client. Full architectural visualization renders with something like Maya or something else? Just curious how you are combining your VR photography awesome with some kind of 3D rendering awesome. Especially if you are merging archviz renders with VR photos/videos.

Thank you Hugh!!!!! You are the BEST!!!! Not much be celerbrate here in SG! hahahahaha..... is sharpening my skills through your helpful tutorials.
Haha - go out and have some fun! It is Christmas!!

That def will be! Maybe I will it in tomorrow release :)
For the best consumer 8k 360 video strapped to a plane, which is the best camera to use with post production, such as Davinci?
Strapped on a plane?! Davinci or Premiere will work
I want to buy a camera for real estate virtual tours today. Z1 is out of stock everywhere. What would you buy? up to 1k ish budget.
Qoocam 8K? Or wait for Z1 come back in stock? Qoocam 8K is a good investment for Video too. I will personal get both - Qoocam 8K for video and Z1 for photo. But Qoocam 8K also great for photo.
youre the best!
Thanks!
Have you tried XPhase 200mp Camera yet? vs Theta Z1
Everyone want XPhase .... no ... I don't have on and don't have money to buy one lol. Someone need to hook me up!!
can you please add the Insta PRO2 into this photo competition?
That is actually something I am working on. Pro 2 is a total different workflow tho.
I love your videos i constantly find myself re-watching as a reference. Does the qoocam have replaceable lenses . ps when you said you should get the z1 you pointed at qoocam and vice versa lol.
I have directional challenge lol. Qoocam does has replaceable lenses - but again it is not out. It should have ND.
Keep up the great work!
Great job again as usual. But you managed to totally confuse me! 🤣. Merry Xmas
Wait which point is confusing?
CreatorUp they each have strengths and weaknesses based on your tests but it seems like you have to either choose low light capability or sharper images. You can't get both in one camera. I would've thought that the DNG8 would have been the better overall camera since it's 8K. So which camera would be better for real estate walk-throughs? Which would give the best and sharpest results?
Thank God
Got my qoocam 360 8k. I am a realtor and I want to do virtual tour. can you give me more information how I should maximize this camera?
Yes - it is coming!!
CreatorUp which virtual tour software do u recommend?
Thank you!
Hell Yeah i want to LEARN!!!
Great video. Is there a manual setting for Qcam too, I mean to shoot in brackets and then merge it yourself? can you change the aperture?
Thanks.
I will be careful next time on the brightness but the noise is not going away - it is still there. Thanks!
thank you love, happy days ...
Same to you Juan!
Qoocam 8k is not sharp in the distance?
Not as sharp as Z1, yes.
WHEN DOES THE QOOCAM 8K COME OUT?!??? I literally can’t find a date nowhere

Hi, as always great content!!
Please could you briefly tell me what workflow and software did you use for the Qoocam 8k? Did you only use Qoocam Studio? Or any other software?
I only use Qoocam Studio to stitch - this video outline my workflow really well: ua-cam.com/video/tUhb52dKBuw/v-deo.html
thankx bro !! you are the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you like it!
Hi Hugh, thanks for another excellent video. Is this still the Beta or have you received Consumer Qoocam 8?K
This is production unit
thanksssssssssssssssssss gooood job !!!
Thank you!!
MUY BUEN video, tengo una duda si los videos de la fusion en 4k son demsiado pesados y dificiles de renderizar como sera en esta camara con 8k
HaHaHa! You're the best Hugh!! Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year to you! Thank you for all of the valuable information that you share!!
Glad I could help :)
I would love a Photomatix tutorial from my boy Hugh the pro
Okay! I will def plan one!!
now the theta app has hdr shooting, so one click and you get automatic hdr right? so was this video taken before this feature or you only considered multibracketing for some technical reason?
Curious, if the Theata Z1 took about 30 mins to HDR, then is it justifiable to spend a few minutes to color correct the DNG8 from Qoocam to achieve the same result?
Z1 is very fast now in HDR follow this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/hg1m-GlYnuI/v-deo.html
Please do the tutorial show how to merge. Thank you
Will do!
Hi Hugh... really nice tutorial. I would like to ask you a question. Today the difference between Qoocam 8k and Obsidian Go is more or less 300/400euros ... which one would you buy?
I will buy Qoocam 8K personally - as Go it is like 4 years old now.
My other questions were in relation to whether or not further DR improvement was possible.
@@Entropy512 before that plugin, it was 7 seconds between the shots.
Hello Hugh! Great video. Did you hear anything about Ricoh releasing Theta Z2 camera?
No... Really?!
Thanks.
You can batch process then into TIFF files
Whats the Colour Chart you're using ?
X-rite Photo and Video.
Thank you so much for your reviews, and I have a question, do you think future upgrades can improve the quality of the qoocam?
Yes absolutely! Look at GoPro MAX - it is so much better now than original release - same will be Qoocam 8K and just any 360 camera lol. The common problem it they release too early too soon lol.
CreatorUp thank you so much mate I almost watched all your reviews I think you are one of the best in the 360 world. I want to learn about this world and improve my skills on this field. However, thank you again for your answers I know you are busy but you still spend time for your followers.
Yes, my choice is the Theta Z1. Not bought one, want to do estate agent and auto. To start. Where can I find the best software for the Theta Z1
Thanks 😊
Great video 👍
The best software is Photoshop or Lightroom - Adobe use Z1 on their immersive tutorial !
Start with this: ua-cam.com/video/-ggV99MOpuw/v-deo.html
Concerning great HDR programm Photomatix, right yesterday I've got an answer from the support of HDRsoft about batch processing of 360 images (I hope this respectful team will not mind):
>Yes you can also apply the 360º image option when batch processing, and there are a couple of ways to do that.
Thank you for the info!
Thank you
I want to buy one of these cameras and use it for green box shots.
(I almost only take pictures, and I'm tired of flares and bad dynamic range)
And thank you for your time, I love how you connect with all your subscribers, really means a lot nowadays.
Z1 is still better in raw quality - but both Z1 and Qoocam 8K is not for fast workflow - it require works.
Best Video
Thank you!
Super, thank you very much
I hope I answer your question!
So, can I shoot separate RAW files with the Qoocam 8K ?
Yes you can. The normal feature.
Excessive compression or inferior optics on the Qoocam 8K? I can definitely see more fine detail in the trees and pebbles on the Theta Z1 than on Qoocam, which also has flatter colors. Too bad....
Z1 has bigger sensor and nicer optics - but also double the price. So you pay what you get - that is always the true lol.
@@hughhou I hope Qoocam's future firmware improves the quality. Please keep reviewing and testing it. Thanks!
What is the best 360 camera for photo a normal (not rich) person can buy? I do seldom film but I know several place I want folk to see for example on Google maps, so what camera shall a person like mo look towards?
MiSphere - facebook.com/groups/Mijia360cam/permalink/939285706466549/
Just use the Qoocam 8K for photo then or better, your DSLR. That's what I use mostly - trusted Full frame sensor DSLR.
I do Photogrammetry for 6DoF.
@CreatorUp, isn't it time to test DualFisheye Plug-in? ;-)
Yes I will need to work on that soon :)
