Life Behind Bars | Ex-convict shares his experiences in prison
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 гру 2024
- Recently, there have been vibrant discussions around the lifestyles of inmates from inside prison.
As a result, Correctional Services Commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale conducted raids in prisons to search for contraband.
This week, prison wardens and SAPS members carried out a raid at Johannesburg Prison, seizing items such as dagga, sim cards, wifi routers, play stations, and plasma TV screens.
We are joined by an ex-convict and former kingpin of cash-in-transit heists who will share his experience of serving a 12-year prison sentence.

I appreciate that with profound gratitude
This year alone i got hijacked and my car was also broken into one time when parked and they emptied it ! Guys I’m sorry but criminals deserve no sympathy, and sometimes you won’t get the pain till it happens to you !

A phone is a tool to commit crime on the outside, while on the inside.
Look we understand that you are advocating for prisoners but what about a family that lost a loved one because you committed a crime where are the rights of that individual. Why should that individual be punished with death but a convicted individual is not supposed to be punished.
💯
💯💯💯🎯🎯🎯
Agree, the victims rights?
Sorry, cellphone & TV is not a right! U are removed from society because u can't fit into society & communities! It's a form of punishment and once released the criminal should appreciate freedom & society. The reason criminals don't fear punishment is because "human rights" is no1.
You cannot control the use of cellphones in a prison, get a radio, u don't need a cellphones! A lot of criminal activities are arranged from within prisons, arrange contraband, etc.
He said it, corruption is everwhere!
A quick question, whats your understanding of punishment??

Speak better than most ministers!
I really don’t understand why this has to be big news. This is something that needs to happen regularly in any prisons. This is basically a lack of management, corruption within the system . The ANC has really really failed us. I mean Thabo Bester made millions whilst in prison and he still has the audacity to claim the items from the government with no fear of which he obtained illegally. The justice system and the correctional system is so rotten.
This guy is pro prisoners. The victims of those prisoners are out here having deal with the devastating outcomes ....the reason these things are not allowed is valid.
Trinity i have listened to you many times. I am pleased with you changing from life you lived before. This man deserve something better. I think television is your field. Try something on television you can succeed sir

Eish.😢. That's how I felt listening to him. I was thinking this guy could have been leading as a Minister and contributing significantly to the government or even owning his own companies and boosting the economy.
This guy is so articulate✅💯👌❤️
Well spoken very articulate
What is he talking about? The fact that prisoners are there doesn't mean they are there for a holiday, it's meant to be punishment, this is why mob justice is better, no more letting criminals get taken for holidays paid for by the very victims who struggle to get food..
Prison is there for reform. Not for punishment. Let say you punishment them for 12 years. And release them right how are they better in society. They will just go back to do the same things.
Minister of Justice right here not these ANC clowns
I love that thought 😂😂

Smooth talker. Victims pay the price for the time the prisoner spend in prison. Access to information is in a book
Access has improved from since it was only in a book
Imagine a bunch of criminals chilling in their cell playing fifa, smoking zaza, another guy relaxing on his bed sweet-talking his girlfriend on a phone call, others watching Generations on another tv. And this guy says it’s not luxury, what the heck!

Interesting conversation.
It is such a pity, more than half of South Africans are currently living in the same conditions he grew up in.
Then, the law must change, and they must be punished.
Signal jemmers must be installed!
Brother you're articulate
Trinity speaks extremely well....I wish him well.
I fully agree all who have done wrong must face jail
This guy is a liar, he’s just trying to get public sympathy. There are rules in jail that need to be followed and there are limitations to what inmates can have access to, this one wants to make everything about himself.
F!@#en criminal.. I don't trust him.. mxm

He spoke well about his intentions about using a phone in prison and i commend him for that, but however, alot still to be desired. Many inmates commit further crimes because of cellphones
I agree with you, the same with me I have alot of setbacks in my live of crime, now that I'm a grown man I realize whom I was supposed to be
Police need to recruit these guys in order to fight crime.

True... I also think like that

Cellphone and TV is luxury! THIS GUY DOES NOT UNDERSTAND JAIL
What about those who did not commit crime and are in prison and did nothing illegally think before you comment about those souls 😢
What about people who use cellphones to conduct illegal business from within prison. Happens all the time where mafia and gang members are ordering hits on people on the outside.
Well said General 👏 👌
He is talking nonsense, how does he know they use those gadgets innocently?
12 in jail is how he knows.
Of course he doesn’t refer to everyone! He’s speaking on general terms based on his experience! And he’s clear, in his words he say ‘contrabands are wrong in prison’, he also said that some people do use their gadgets for ‘reasons that are unbecoming’…listen to the man carefully!

They should write essays on virtues and their effects and vices and their negative impacts

Amazing how convicts n criminals get importance 😮😮😮😮
You can tell that the ex-convict man has spent a lot of time self-introspecting and getting his thoughts together. He leveraged whatever items and accessories he had available to improve himself and not for crime. If you look at the prisons of more well-developed countries you will see that the focus is also on reform and not on punishment. I understand that those who have been affected by crime especially malevolent crime are not happy with the "luxury" that criminals have and that is completely understandable. But people have to also understand that a lot of these criminals are merely the result of poor upbringing, lack of guidance and a system that fails them.
Everything you said makes absolute sense. You are right. Most individuals in the correctional institutions have psychological disorders (ID, Conduct Disorder, BPD, etc). Having said that,, the law is the law unfortunately. Sometimes we have to be in the valley, to learn and become better people. I wonder whether these prisoners have access to mental health services.
This guy is talking a whole bunch of nothing and the interviewer is so soft on him.
what do you mean, mhlambe udidwa sislungu,
Trinity I salute you
Very interesting, well done Trinity...I think Ayanda should invite Trinity together with the minister and a dcs spokesperson. DCS should also look at working with parolees like Trinity to minimise recidivism.
Prisons must be self-sustaining if they don't produce enough food they must go hungry. We in the real world must do that. Human rights don't apply to the public. If we can't pay for water and electricity we have to go with out. If we can't find a work for the day we go sleep hungry. They must have a token system in jail where the prisoners work for tokens every day if the prisoner has enough tokens he/she can buy a plate of food. If a Sel block wants electricity they must pull together and pay the bill with their tokens. If they want to have a warm shower they have to pay with tokens to have that luxury. We all do.
Your English bro, i almost thought uh are the one interviewing❤
You are exaggerating Mina ngingena nesgela kanje 😅😢
Police corrupt they putting all these things inside jail
A prisoner is always a prisoner.😅
Prison is definitely for punishment! You get punished for breaking the law, reform is another element. Imagine saying contraband is illegal then saying gadgets are not luxuries😂 having a cellphone or playstation is not a human right. That is a completely separate issue from corruption so it makes no sense trying to link the 2. Obviously his reasoning is still broken. He actually also said nothing about the extent to which these things were happening or being passed around & what exactly they were being used for. No detailed insight about his experience inside yet I thought that was the point of him being there. He knows but doesn't want to talk too much, just wants TV exposure.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂....well said💯💯🎯🎯
