    Note: the claim on the Gold Coast being the fifth largest city in Australia draws on the latest Queensland Government reports about Gold Coast data (see www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/Council-region/About-our-city/Gold-Coast-economy) - however, some people have been contesting the QLD government's claims, stating that the Gold Coast is the sixth (and not 5th) largest city in Australia (a fact that I did come across while doing my research). But I proceeded to use this government report as I deem government resources the most reliable sources for conveying this type of information (I try to stay away from unofficial sources, or outdated reports). Having said that, if the report proves to be wrong, I apologise in advance for this.

      - Melbourne's value = cultural diversity, bars/cafes/restaurants, sports, the arts and climate (4 distinct seasons). median rent is around $1800 per month for a 1 bdr apartment.
      - Sydney's value = job opportunities, beaches, harbour, fast paced / exciting environment. median rent is around $2200 per month for a 1 bdr apartment.

    Is this a video about the Gold Coast, or Surfers Paradise-Broadbeach? Because the Gold Coast stretches over a large area, it’s not just the ‘well connected’ beach side neighbourhoods. You have to catch 2 buses and take an hour, just to get from mermaid waters to Robina Shopping Centre which is a 15 minute drive on a bad day. Or ask about the wonderful connectivity from Nerang to Burleigh Heads. Just getting from Pacific Fair shopping Centre to Chevron Island is crap. Yes, the very outdated slow tram takes you from Pacific Fair to Surfers Paradise, but then you have to walk 20 minutes in the hot sun to chevron island. This video is only good or helpful if you live Surfers-Broadbeach areas, or areas based on the GC Highway.

    I've lived on the Gold Coast for the majority of my 44 years of life - I adore that we have TWO dog friendly beaches and they're not small .. they're quite large. Not to mention the plethora of fenced dog parks and EVERYWHERE you'll find FREE dog poop bags - I'm always amazed at people actually spending money on dog poop bags because I have never spent a cent as they're freely and readily available.
    Also in re: Schoolies - it has blown out to more than a week as the cross overs from other states means it starts at different times hence it's more closer to 3-4 weeks in duration which basically means to avoid Surfers for end of November and December. I used to live in Surfers Paradise, avoid it at all costs. Gratefully, Schoolies is now starting to go elsewhere or stick to their own states.

It was getting busy in the 5yrs leading up to covid.. but the post covid influx of people from Sydney and Melbourne ( and I don't blame them for moving here.. I would too ) has ruined it. It’s pretty much Australia’s equivalent to the spring break student tourist boom that happens each year in Hawaii and Miami in the USA! :)

    I am a Brisbane/Gold Coast local and have lived and worked in both cities. The glory days of the Gold Coast are well and truly over. If you were there in the early to late 80 s to mid 90 s it was a paradise. Now it's too expensive, it's overdeveloped, traffic is atrocious. Crime and drugs. The entire Brisbane-Gold Coast urban corridor has become a shithole. Just drive though Logan now you will see. Brisbane itself is better for living than GC nowadays, especially some southside suburbs, unless you have to drive across Brisbane, eg Mt Gravatt to Strathpine for instance, very bad traffic.

    I will have to disagree as someone who has had to rely upon public transport throughout her life at various points - if you're not near a tram station you're SOL and the public transport options are horrendous. The bus system has always been really bad if you're not either along the highway or in a main hub (like Southport, Surfers, etc). Seriously, you're best to invest in an electric bicycle or bicycle to get around and even then the bicycle system has a lot of issues outside certain areas (where there's no bicycle lanes or if you're forced to be on footpaths the footpaths are really bad). I would only recommend living on the Gold Coast, sadly, if you can afford to have a car.
    The public transport system ONLY works for those who are either 'along the highway' or near a tram spot. Outside of that, you'll need a car. We have to remember the Gold Coast extends from Beenleigh all the way to the border and out to places like Springbrook. Try getting to Springbook without a car - yeh. You can't.

    Gold Coast born and bred. Owned a unit at Main Beach, walk out the gate onto the beach... hated it. Summer sucks, so humid and frigid cold in Winter due to high rises. I inherited it from my father, sold it two years later. TVs, fridges, PCs, microwaves die from the salt air, everything rusts and your furniture always feels wet. One benefit we had was walking on the beach during Covid with my dogs and there was NO-ONE else on the beach.. I now live North at Ormeau and prefer that. the GC is not a land of milk and honey, you must have a job to come to. Rentals are at 0.6% availability.... research before coming here.

  • @leoniewilliams8603
    @leoniewilliams8603 Рік тому +16

    I would give the Gold Coast a big miss. Very expensive property if you want to be anywhere near the beach. Cheaper houses west of the M1 but you may not want to live there. The Gold Coast has experienced an unprecedented increase in population during and after Covid. The Glitter Strip is a sea of cranes and high-rises being built continuously. This holds up traffic even more. A tram system is being built to the airport at an incredible expense. This will cause even more traffic chaos, taking four lanes of the Gold Coast highway down to two. Only the people living a few kilometres east and west of the tram will realise the benefit of it… and the people living between Brisbane and the Gold Coast who come down to the beaches on the weekend. Tallebudgera Creek is now like Bondi Beach on the weekend. If you’re not there by 9 o’clock in the morning you will not get a park. We have lived here for almost 20 years and are thinking of moving somewhere else. I came to the Gold Coast to visit my grandparents often in the 60s and 70s. The current Gold Coast is a very different place.

    It is not worth moving to the Gold Coast. People say it has no soul and can be unfriendly. It is very hot in summer. Crime is through the roof. The QLD government is soft on crime. The cost of living is higher than in other states of Australia because of its holiday destination. The locals pay more for everything to cover for the tourists. There are no real jobs, only hospitality. The rent is very expensive. To buy a property is very expensive. It is also overcrowded and takes you ages to get from one place to another re the traffic jams.

    The Gold Coast is a amazing place, unfortunately ruined by over-population since the 1990's, not just from people moving there but from the exponentially increased influx from Brisbane and Northern NSW on the weekends/holidays-making it near on impossible to access the beach and other attractions.
    Sadly since around 2010, migration on the Gold Coast and in SE QLD has been seriously miss-managed, culminating in the Covid madness excess numbers creating a housing crisis and completely ludicrous pricing for rental and purchase of property which is completely miss-aligned with the economic, work and salary opportunity the region offers due to the fact that interstate buyers have reaped the benefits of selling high in completely different markets, which unfortunately will bite them badly once the capital gains are spent.
    With the impending market crash, the Gold Coast property market will face significant losses probably leading to an exodus of recent migrants back to the larger cities as has happened in the past. Hopefully finding a well overdue equilibrium and allowing for the tourism the city greatly needs to be as attractive as it once was.

    I grew up on the goldy and left 12 years ago. And I’m glad I did. It’s not what it used to be. Each time I visit now I realise that it’s tacky, dirty, overcrowded and overpriced. If you’re after a beachside paradise, there are many other quieter seaside towns. Let’s be realistic, you don’t want to live on the Gold Coast if you’re not right on the beach because the rest (and majority) of the city is pretty ugly.

    I lived on the Gold Coast for 17 years. It is one of the worst places for employment and building a social network. There's a reason why there is 700k people living there and Melbourne has 5M and Sydney 6M. You cannot make friends there because 85% of people who migrate to the GC just end up going back in 5-10yrs because it hasn't worked out for the above mentioned reasons. There real-estate market is highly volatile, I was very unfortunate to be apart of the GFC in 2009 where property prices plunged almost 50% in popular suburbs like Mermaid Beach. The food and Service on the GC is Crap also because they only cater for tourist who come and go and are not interested in retaining long term patrons. Its always so freaking hot there too! In summer months believe it or not it can go from October to May, after you finish having a shower, you start sweating again as you put your clothes back on. Surfers Paradise will never get its act together, it does nothing but attract scummy tourist who are there to party and drink and you will often see vomit on the street corner early Sunday mornings after all the scum has partied on Saturday night. The GC lost the Indianapolis 500 and now Palazzo Versace is leaving the GC. Chadstone shopping centre in Melbourne absolutely trumps Pacific Fair and Robina town centre. The Gold Coast was a great place in 90's and early 2000's but it has lost the Pizzazz it once was...

    • @victoriacorcoran1258
      @victoriacorcoran1258 8 місяців тому

      Yes the GFC on the Gold Coast was real, units that were sold for $800K dropped to $400K over the period interest rates rose just like interest rates are rising today, be careful where you invest your money. It is the Florida of Australia, over supply, changing bank valuations and commission breath Real Estate Agents who will sell you the dream to get a contract signed.

    I moved to the Gold Coast 7 years ago and have been enjoying it ever since!
    The lifestyle is great!
    The people are a lot friendlier than the zombies living in Sydney.
    However, the best spot to live is in Central GC or Southern GC.
    Lots of traffic in M1 southbound, so if you live in North GC then you will get caught up in traffic a lot!
    Many people in GC work in Brisbane for office jobs.
    Yes, I agree that not many office jobs in the GC, as not many big offices located in the GC.
    Lots of people who moved to the GC have jobs that enable them to work online.
    I went back to Sydney once for holiday and was shocked of how crowded Sydney is now!
    I never looked back!
    Sydney people, don’t move to the GC.
    Stay there and enjoy the crowds! 😂.
    Leave us alone here in the GC, don’t pump the property price even higher!
