Respect for Dapper Dan! I’m from Kenya and what he said about the history of my country is true. The guy has been reading and traveling across African countries in the late 60’s where at that time most of African countries were starting to kick out the white colonial power, He learnt so much from great african leaders. The African American community came a long way from slavery and systematic oppression from the white man. Come to Africa. It starts with just a visit. See it for yourself, don’t let them media tell you about it. Most of African countries are developing countries and their economy is growing in a rapid pace. A lot of business opportunities in Africa. You can own chunk of land and build Fortune 500 companies. Everything you learnt there come and do it in Africa. Let’s create black business and jobs for our people.

For those who missed the point, he saying he partnered with a big brand because they already have the brand recognition and global distribution set up. You can do for self and create your own, but it takes time. Something global like that can’t be set up instantly. While your setting up your own, the big brands will continue making money off the culture and scoop up all the profits. By the time you’re set up the culture will shift because it moves on 20, 30 or 40 year cycles, and you’ll have to start over.
You can jump the line by partnering with a big brand and collecting profits with them along the way, then when the culture shifts you’ll have the money and the knowledge to set up your own global infrastructure from the beginning of it’s inception.

True, however the key point of Luxury which he’s trying to say is you need a combination of historical studies (in fashion, the more symbol the more expensive), nerdy understanding of the brand that way you know 100% of its nuances, afterwards people will be happy to invest. Let’s picture this, why would you pay a surgeon & Haute Couture $100k + versus what you pay a Doula and Fubu? We have people earning masters in Tapestry before working for the big name brands.
