Collodi was actualy the home village of Carlo's mother.Carlo Lorenzini was born in Florence, and when he started writing stories he used the pen-name Carlo Collodi.(Maybe because it sounded nice, maybe as a tribute.)
Carlo was a school reforms official for years and wrote many school textbooks.Afterwrads,he translated French Fairy tales into Itallian. This got him in a Fairy Tale mood
so he wrote Pinocchio, serialized in the Children's Journal magazine. It was published as a book in 1883.

Historians said that Carlo Collodi originally wanted the story of Pinocchio in the newspaper to end with Pinocchio being hunged to death on an oak tree and his publisher hated this death ending idea for Pinocchio. He requested that Carlo should write more chapters in the newspaper to make it more suitable for children, to show the children's faith for Pinocchio and making sure Pinocchio has a better happy ending, the story of Pinocchio was a huge success in Italy. I believe PINOCCHIO is Italy's only well known fairy tale story to date and is considered to be their favorite character of all time.
