As a Navi Mumbaikar I can confirm this train running scene was actually shot in Sanpada Carshed back in 1997, back then Navi Mumbai was still underdeveloped and the local trains operated till CBD Belapur.
From Sanpada they reached Hiranandani Gardens' Galleria circle in 1 minute. Can you confirm it was possible in 1997?
@@user_1abc Maybe they switched locations……… but the train sequence is actually shot at Sanpada carshed……… Also in mid 90s many Hindi movies were used to be shot at Juinagar station.

@@kevintf2 it was vfx. Look at the 2nd shot. He steps forward in one and backward in another. 1st and 3rd shot are the same in different angles. I was a teen during that time. I know the details. There was big hype about the danger AK took... They lied all over the place. But the vfx was mentioned in a very small article in newspaper. Hardly anyone came to know. Srk was the superstar. His movies would be hits even if they were no good. And this was a marketing move to counter srk popularity, to make this the best movie of the year. Even so kkhh was a bigger hit. Though personally I believe ghulam is a much better movie. Trust me it is vfx. Another movie that did vfx was trimurti. Huge budget of 10 crores then.

The scene was shot from three angles. “Two of those were generated in special effects. But one angle which was my frontal angle, we shot that with the train. At that time, I didn’t realise it but when I later watched it in the editing room then I got scared,” Aamir said.
This scene was notorious at the time because there were reports of school college boys trying it for real.. lol

It is very difficult to say whether this scene is real or VFX, however this scene require lot of detail editing which is evident through 3 different landing angles. If we see it closely, you'll see the difference in each angle. Let make it more simple. 1st landing angle : Amir khan faces toward speed limit board, 2nd landing angle : facing against the speed limit board and 3rd landing angle : facing toward speed limit board. It is very difficult to walk over the ballast, however when you see more closely during landing there were no movement in stones. Hatsoff to editing team.

I would like to clear some misconception in the comments. A lot of people erroneously believe that Amir Khan really did this stunt. Let me tell you, I have graduated out of an engineering college in Mumbai university in 2004 and there was a presentation done by one of the technician of Maya software. He showed this exact scene from Gulam when Amir Khan runs before a structure erected by placing a few carton boxes on top of each other to imitate a rail engine and a green big cloth placed over it and then jumps to the side. He explained the reason for green colour as it helps to remove and simulate an incoming engine easily. Then he sarcastically said, this is what sometimes super stars means when they say they did stunt on their own.
