Agreed and so very classy. Most of our black female entertainers need to study class at her feet. All they know how to do is bear flabby breasts and flabby asses . Such a shame to hate oneself so deeply! GOD save them and their gutter low esteems , PLEASE! JACQUIE A dIVA in all ways?❤
I was involved in a BBC TV variety show in the 70's at the old Shepherds Bush Television Theatre, and sat in the stalls when Gladys - a few feet from me - rehearsed this song with the Peter Knight orchestra. Magic.
This makes me imagine a conversation between God and the angel Gabriel and Gabriel says, I know you would never make the perfect human being with perfect beauty and voice but how close are you willing to go?
The smoothness of her delivery......the transition from whispering to full voice is not only stunning, but masterful. One of the greatest contemporary singers of our time.
This great woman here, has always stopped me dead in my tracks while listening to her. I am 71 years of age and still listening to her songs today, they carry the same effect on me. In gospel, Tramaine Hawkins does me the same way, I freeze listening to those two voices!!! Awesome gifts!
This song is not only gorgeous sang by her, but so personal to me. This song is so meaningful to me, personally. Sometimes someone who suffers from depression, just needs to truly make it through the night. Demons come out to play, and in those moments of darkness, the mind can really go insanely crazy. The day can be bright as possible, but when night time comes around and the sun starts to go down, that darkness is very scary and so sad... I love how music can really show true, genuine human emotion.
A beautitul ballad written by a country songwriter (Kris Krisofferson) and sung so powerfully by the Goddess of Soul ...this is a brilliant example of why the boundaries of musical genres are so blurred in the best ways ...I'm just thankful that I don't care about the genre, I just like it when it's good and this is as good as it gets.
Thank you for the information as I never knew it was written by Kris Krisofferson. I came here as this was my mum's favourite ever song and of which helped her through some tough times. Funnily KK was also a favourite of hers. I find it comforting listening to a song that she loved during her lifetime 🙂 x
RIP Dad. Passed Away 1 year today and played at his funeral. This was his his favourite song and version, where I grown up with this sung by Gladys Knight. Its a fantastic song by a beutiful lady who knew how to make it her own. But I do find it difficult to listen to now. Really Glad someone posted this version. Thank You. We are all thinking of you Dad. We all miss you.
For me this is the definitive version, beautiful production quality, beautiful voice, beautiful lady. Musicians and singer in harmony and not competing, instead a dialogue between instruments and vocals.
Today or ever. Gladys takes it to a whole different level of depth of feeling, as though she has felt every emotion, smiled every smile and cried every tear that we have ever known.
Take the ribbon from your hair Shake it loose and let it fall Layin' soft upon my skin Like the shadows on the wall Come and lay down by my side Till the early mornin' light All I'm takin' is your time Help me make it through the night I don't care who's right or wrong I don't try to understand Let the devil take tomorrow Lord tonight I need a friend Yesterday is dead and gone And tomorrow's out of sight And it's sad to be alone
Arguably the best cover of this song ever recorded. The last minute of this song, with the repetition of the main phrase, is devastatingly beautiful. Spectacular!
Tonight but the grace of God....this saved my life....i couldn't find peace, the song my mother used to song beautifully emerged....if there's a woman and a voice like Gladys the legend knight, I'm sure there must be more beauty to comprehend and love. Thankyou Gladys and postee.
Soo,soo beauty,whit a voice not for as,you are a angel..god bless you.Thank's for you exist.I love you GLADYS.one billiard kisses.(escuse my english not so good)Szeretlek...this is a hungarien word.Many kissess for you..........
This is my alltime fav of gladys nights .. i sing it quite a lot when playing it through youtube u sing it once n end up all night singing it as ye canny stop 💝
this lady should be the role model of every woman alive today, she sings with the compassion of angels she expresses a feeling of a love that is honest and pure. I just love and adore both her and her contribution to music, a wonderful human being that lays a troubled heart and soul to peace
What a scintillating and awesome performance and they don't come much better than this. Gladys knight certainly did justice in this excellent performance.
My very most favourite. Version of her song . Such a very naturally beautiful girl she is ....thank you for bringing back happy memories of the early 70 s when I first heard you xxxx
On this day in 1972 {September 23rd} Gladys Knight & the Pips performed "Help Me Make It Through The Night" on the nationally syndicated television program, 'Soul Train'... Six months earlier on March 19th, 1972 the song entered Billboard's Top 100 chart at position #74, five weeks later it would peak at #33 {for 2 weeks} and it spent eight weeks on the Top 100... It reached #13 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart and #11 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart... Between 1961 and 1988 the Atlanta, Georgia group had fifty five records on the Hot R&B Singles chart, thirty one made the Top 10 with ten reaching #1, plus they had another five peak at #2... Gladys Maria Knight, aka The Empress of Soul, will celebrate her 76 birthday come next May 28th, 2020... Sadly, two of the Pips have passed away, Edward Roy Patten at the age of 65 on February 25th, 2005 and William Guest on December 24th, 2015 at age 74... May Mr. Patten, Mr. Guest, and Don Cornelius {1936 - 2012} R.I.P.
Indeed she sold millions of records and she was extremely popular but should be considered as one of our greatest vocalists simply because she is.
She is the greatest for me Murp

She is considered one of the greatest!
Man when God made this woman he broke the mold.....that voice those looks........WOW. All these years later Im still in awe of her.
Saw her live a couple of months ago .. pushing 80 and still extraordinary.

I can’t be the only one who cries listening to this amazing woman singing this song.
The smoothness of her delivery......the transition from whispering to full voice is not only stunning, but masterful. One of the greatest contemporary singers of our time.
The ONLY bad thing about this performance is that I can only give one thumbs up!!

I've got goosebumps. Gladys slayed it. Easily the best cover.....EVER
The greatest female singer of all time she owns this song god gave her the voice kriss gave her words
THE END BIT IS STAGGERING
Covered by many, but not one is as soulful as this . . .
Gladys has one of the best voices in the world! Biljana from Novi Sad, Serbia!
One of the best songs I've ever heard
Surely one of the great singers of all time.
Gladys took this song a made it her own, she sang it with so much emotion, simply beautiful
So many good versions of this song but she sings it as if it was written for her to sing. She owns this song!
Could not have said it any better and you are right on point
100% She sings from her soul
Yeah spot on

Legend. Nobody sings like this lady
In my view - This is the Best version and miss these kinds of tunes in todays world
There is something about black female singers, they possess a portal to the human soul like no other, quite a gift.
Thass because they naturally possess beauty and talent
For me this is the definitive version, beautiful production quality, beautiful voice, beautiful lady. Musicians and singer in harmony and not competing, instead a dialogue between instruments and vocals.
Totally agree! If trying to teach a singer or musician what musical dynamics are - this is the performance.
she is an amazing singer indeed and put any emotion required in a song
Love this beautiful song it’s very touching from the heart 💜❤💛💙💗💚💕💕💕
Man!!! They don't make um like this anymore.. The legend.. The Diva.. The queen of class...
