  • Just picked up a Yamaha SLG200NW silent guitar and love it.
    Great guitar for practice with an elaborate SRT electronics system that is functional and easy to use.
    The SLG200NW is a silent guitar with a classical neck shape with traditional 52mm spacing at the nut.
    This guitar can also function as a gig/live guitar. With the fact that it has no body, and its great pickup system, this guitar is not subject to the normal feedback issues that come with playing acoustic guitar at high volumes.
    Definitely worth checking out

    Perfect review. Thank you for clarifying the “W” for wide. I almost bought one of the regular sized neck ones and canceled the order after seeing this vid cause you’ve gotta have that thicker neck yknow that would’ve been a bummer. Anyways thanks

    Great review. I'm going to pull from the good review below to say "Perfect review". This is as informative as any of the reviews on this guitar I have seen. Nice presentation. Thanks. I'm going from an acoustic bass to guitar (this will be my first guitar), and I've tried out a couple of semi-hollow archtops for the jazz/blues I play, and the necks all seem impossibly small to me, the steel strings feel too sharp. I'm interested in the distinction the reviewer below, Ryan, made about this "W" wide 52mm classical neck vs the 50 mm neck nut width on the other SLG200N guitar. I will continue to check that out, but this review and your well-informed commenters were really a help to me. Thank you.

    Regret having to sell my SLG130NW a year or two ago, I didn't realise the 200 had come out - always nicer getting an upgrade than a replacement :) Thank you!!

    Very good review. Thank you, Mark. I have a lot of backpain problems and I'm considering this guitar both for silent practise and for light weight. How does it behave in terms of weight balance? I see you use a strap. Could you use it without a strap and play comfortably? Thanks!

    @markkeatingmusic If you hold it free on your left leg in standard classical guitar position, does the narrow width of the sides cause an issue re. resting the right forearm?

      It has a problem playing it in the classical position because the frame has a bulge that presses exactly into your sternum. It's a mystery that Yamaha when designing a nylon wide, which will be used by classical guitarists, did not foresee that problem. I am thinking about workarounds now, like filling the upper inner side of the upper frame with a wood block sanded to shape, and I will shortly talk with a carpenter about it. Tricky, because of the curvature and the fact that the inner side of the frame, where the bulge is, has a skew that means that you cannot just copy the contour of the frame on paper, apply that to a block of wood and just "horizontally" saw the excess away.

    How hi is the bass E string on the first fret? Mine, the nut seems high. thinking of lowering it a bit.

    Are there significant differeces between the 200N Vs the 200NW ?

    Would it be more sound better if you connect this to an acoustic amp like Boss Acoustic Singer Live? or the BOSS VE-8?

      I have this guitar on order...and I also own the Boss VE-8 and Marshall AS100D acoustic amp. I will give you the results.

    Thanks for the vid Mark. One question though, do I have to use guitar strap to play it if I don’t want to use footstool? Or could I get a guitar support for that model - because the one I have now is for normal classical guitar.

      @markkeatingmusic  4 роки тому +1

      myour1 I don’t know if a support would work because if the ultra thin frame. A cushion type support might work!

      Hey, I saw people using it with a guitarlift. I personally just use my SLG130NW with a strap and without a footsoll. The Guitar weights very little so I think a guitar strap is enough.

It freaks out on real set up live loud stages , sucks !! Even at the music shop they’ve told me “ buy a real instrument next time
