If people are looking for more prequel content, the legends series “republic” is one of the best star wars comics ever. High republic authors have even referenced it as a inspiration for their writing because republic writes the prequel era jedi so well.

Especially the Clone Wars era of the comics. They are some of the best and (after first reading them after TRoS) I think it's generally better than TCW... and DEFINITELY more consistent in terms of quality. After hearing some Star Wars UA-camrs discussing the early arcs, I also want to read the Outlander arc (origins of A'Sharad Hett) at some point.

They are fantastic comics. Quinlan Vos quicky became a favorite character because of this series. There are volume collections broken up by storylines. Amazing collection.

Damn, i didn't fully realise just how big Soule had been in the comic universe till this video 😅
But seriously, his original Darth Vader 2017 run is so good, probably one of my favorite Vader stories. I have two of the four omnibuses in my collection, and getting the first signed at celebration by him was just awsome. Was just walking about the floor and boom, happened to pass him and Daniel Hose Older en route to their booth. Anyway, definitely check out Darth Vader 2017, you wont regret it.

3:57 Even though I only have one of the Tales of the Jedi editions, I feel like the Epic Legends Collection reprints are going to be EXTREMELY helpful with my exploration of Legends comics given how rare or expensive some of the original Omnibuses seem to be.
Along with the Epic Legends Collection version of Tales of the Jedi (Vol 2/Great Hyperspace War and Sith Empire), I've read the original Omnibus forms of the Clone Wars Republic comics (the ones with stuff like Battle of Jabiim, Durge, Alpha 17 and the Obsession mini series) and HIGHLY reccomend those stories.

My go-to Legends series although I never finished it, was Legacy.
It's... so self indulgent in the most 2000's way possible. It's the grunge scene meets Star Wars. Luke's grandson is a deadbeat pirate wasting his life on deathsticks trying to run from his Jedi past.
The Dark Lord of the Sith is a guy covered in thousands of spikes who is a hundred year old Tusken Raider, and his most famous apprentice is a striper-rific Twi'lek which George Lucas saw as his comics waifu and tried to write her into his early pitches for the Sequel Trilogy (I don't think there is a single woman in the series who doesn't wear a crop top at least once to show off her six pack abs actually). Then the Empire is back but they're kind of good now (?) with Gray Jedi and a diverse Equal-Opportunity Stormtrooper corps full of aliens (Talz Stormtrooper! Talz Stormtrooper!)
It's honestly kind of a dumb series but it captures so well that odd time-period of Star Wars post-Revenge of the Sith and pre-Disney where the writers must have been listening to Nirvana on repeat. Absolutely bonkers.

I wouldnt call the imperial knights “grey jedi”… they are militantly lightside, as in using the darkside is grounds for immediate expulsion, if not execution.
Remember the knights see the emperor as a living avatar of the light, and an incarnated extension of its will. to use the darkside is to betray the force, which is to betray the emperor.

    • @jacoblyman9441
      @jacoblyman9441 8 місяців тому +1

@@Mal-sg6zc thank you, it had been a while since I have read it so I remembered them more as "gray Jedi" to be honest and forgot that their stance was "light side only."
If anything they are more like a D&D Paladin then with an oath of conduct then? It has been a while since I read the comic series and I never finished it either so I missed out on some details towards the end.

For more Legends stuff, I absolutely love the Star Wars: Republic series. It was the comic that originally introduced Quinlon Vos and Aayla Secura.
Fun fact: that series was originally just called “Star Wars” but was rebranded to “Star Wars: Republic” after a couple storyarcs. This would make it the 2nd of four comic series simply called Star Wars, in between Marvel’s original run in the 70s and 80s and the modern era which kicked off when Marvel got the rights back from Dark Horse when Disney purchased Lucasfilm.

I've only ever picked up the 4 issue trade of Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir specifically because it was based off episodes that were not made for The Clone Wars, and I'm a bit mixed on it. I'd say it's an essential story to understanding The Siege of Mandalore because if you just watch the series, Maul is under Sidious' rule, and then he's not. Son of Dathomir follows up on The Lawless and even The Disappeared episodes of Clone Wars, cleans some things up, and introduces things for The Siege of Mandalore. The problems I have are more to do with dialogue. Dooku and Sidious have a few lines that are far less dignified than they would have been in the show, and it makes me wonder how much the dialogue had been changed from the episode scripts. The comic just has a bit of this very edgy tone to it that seemed a bit too far even for Clone Wars.
For more information as to when this story takes place in the timeline, it actually takes place between Chapters 21 and 22 of the novel Dark Disciple, which was also based on eight episodes that were never released. My source for this is actually the old chronological list that included the Legacy project stories before they updated it to just the series itself, so if you're doing a big Clone Wars rewatch and want to include everything...
    - *_Seasons 1-5_* (You likely already know the Chronological order or where to get it.)
    - *_The Lost Missions_* (That's right, not Season 6, these 13 episodes were advertised as The Lost Missions, and I'll always call them that.)
    - *_The 4 Crystal Crisis on Utapua Story Reels_* (Originally on StarWars, com, these are only officially available on The Lost Missions Blu-ray, but the Internet is a place where nothing dies. Titles are: A Death on Utapau, In Search of the Crystal, Crystal Crisis, The Big Bang)
    - *_Dark Disciple Chapters 1-21_* (To my best approximation: 1-7 Lethal Alliance, 8-12 The Mission, 13-17 Conspirators, 18-21 Dark Disciple)
    - *_Son of Dathomir_* (Each issue is one episode: The Enemy of My Enemy, A Tale of Two Apprentices, Proxy War, Shadow of Dathomir)
    - *_Dark Disciple Chapters 22-42_* (To my best approximation: 22-25 Saving Vos Part I, 26-30 Saving Vos Part II, 31-36 Traitor, 37-42 The Path)
    - *_The Final Season_* (Which of course is not in order: 5-8 Ahsoka's Walkabout, 1-4 The Bad Batch, 9-12 The Siege of Mandalore)

For Legends content, the Infinities comics are great fun - literally several What If? style stories where little tweaks in the Skywalker saga are changed.
I also enjoyed the Legacy series, which is more of a distant future centering around descendants of the Skywalkers.
If you've ever seen a Darth Talon cosplayer and wondered where she's from this is the series.

Yes, you've got the publishers right. They aren’t really connected with Marvel comics: they’re written for a younger audience and remain their own thing. High Republic stories are linked to the overall storyline but mostly focus on new characters. These may appear in YA / children's books, but not in the adult novels or comics. There are some exceptions, but I’d see them as easter eggs

This is horrible advice and excludes so much of the content from before. You also only mention digital comics in the modern age and exclude physical media things comic readers have questions about like omnibus' and epic collections. You ignore the OG 107 Marvel comics which set the stage. Charles Soule has some great comics but this is not a helpful guide. Maybe people keep ASKING YOU TO COVER this topic better because of how poorly you are doing it.
We want to know about DARK HORSE
and other outstanding comics.... we also need clarification on series with the same names (DROIDS, BOBA FETT, ETC), series that change names over the years (Star Wars '98, Republic, Dark Times), and which characters are in which eras and how to follow along.... this is at best a guide to how to start reading DISNEY CANON comics from years ago.... nothing 2024 about it other than including YODA and high republic from 2023. BOOOOOO
I usually love your content but this one is a stinker. Maybe you have a UA-camr friend or two you can invite to your channel and try again with someone a bit more knowledgably? If you have Comixology its time to catch up on DARK HORSE and OG MARVEL mate, they are foundational to why Star Wars has endured the decades.
