  • 'Ratnagiri' is a lesser-known fort near Krishnagiri. There's little information available except for a few Google Maps photos. We @BMRiders decided to visit on last Sunday as our #95 ride. Google Maps made finding it easy, and locals helped guide us. At the hill's base is an ancient temple to Lord Rama, built in the 15th century by the Vijayanagar kings. It was surprising to see many people at the temple. After praying, we explored the fort.

We were happy to see most of the fort still standing and were eager to explore it more. We went through the first gateway and headed towards the second one, which showcased Vijayanagara architecture and some ruins nearby. Passing through another gateway, we found rock-cut steps leading to the top. We were told to climb barefoot as it's a sacred place, so we took off our shoes. Climbing without shoes is easier for us anyway! At the next gateway, which was the best preserved, there was a large dry water pond nearby. Nearby, there was a ruined temple, likely dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Going down, we reached a spot with two rocks carved with figures of Lord Anjaneya, Lord Perumal Swamy, and Lord Krishna, revered by locals who often visit. Behind these rocks, there was another water pond.
We climbed to the top tier and saw old buildings, maybe a palace or homes. We explored them for a while. Then, we found a shady spot to eat our snacks and rested. Afterward, we went back down. We were happy to end our #95 ride by exploring a fort our ancestors built.
