Dog ran next to hunters vehicles for hours. Dog is built like a machine for all conditions. Quite nervous in crowded places though. Typical of more wild things.
The person who has successfully trained a Ridgeback to this degree, is truly the leader of the pack and an excellent pet owner. They can be a strong willed breed, the slightest sign that they could be boss, they will take it immediantly! Great job!💖💖😍

I’ve lived with Ridgebacks my entire life. They are the greatest creatures on earth bar none. Amazing companions, protectors and friends. Super intelligent, totally loyal and would face up to anything attempting to hurt you.
My grandma has a rhodesian ridgeback, the dog is adorable, very full of energy but very affectionate and she loves to protect the people she lives with ! I would love to have one if I had a big garden !
Idreamedadreamlastnight, girl you don't need to have a big garden! If you buy them as puppy it isnt good for them to walk alot, when they get older walk with him 3-5 times a day. Morning - 20/30min (Just a good walk) Afternoon - 20/30min (Another good walk) Evening - 1 or 2h (I prefer going to the beach) Night (B4 you go to sleep) - 20/30min Thats all they need.
Do you have a picture of her? I recently adopted a puppy that I think is that same mix but I’m not entirely sure. Of course the picture would not be full assurance but would help.
I had a mix Rhodesian Ridgeback and Sammy was the smartest dog I have ever had. I had him on a long leash so he could wander as we walked. SAM pulled me away from charging Wasps. He led me home for wasps treatment. He actually pulled me home to my RV. So many times SAM used his smarts. SAM chased airplanes at 50,000 feet. Just do not get in his way. SAM weighed 110 pounds. We filled his dog dishes. SAM ate when he wanted to and quit when he was full. The Cats could walk around him while eating or they could drink water together....Amazing!
I have an 8 month old. Training him to trail run. Mostly to not chase squirrels, say hi to everyone on the trail, etc on a run. He is not really even running and I can’t keep up; not even close to it and I’ve been a trail runner for many years. He is an amazing dog! As are all Rhodesian RBs I’ve met.
Thank you for sharing your experience. If I may ask, how is your dog now? Has he been able to focus up and push past distractions? I am looking into this breed for trail running myself.
@@waylonk2453 Toho is almost 2yrs old now. I had spent a lot of money getting on him professional training. It seemed like a waist of money and time. However, at about 1.5yrs old, it all started to click in his brain. The main trainer had a lot of experience with the bread and told me as he matured he would settle down & it would all be worth it. He was right. My fastest run alone on a familiar trail is 27 min. Toho and I made it around it in 28 min. He only paused a few times to mark. And the trail wasn’t empty. Not heavy traffic but there was traffic that he just ran passed without taking much notice. Toho is a big RR, at roughly 115-120lbs. He is still faster than I’ll ever be and has way more endurance. Even in the heat. Although I must say he doesn’t like to run when it’s over 90 outside. So I let him stay home in for summer runs.
